You have to either leave switch on and allow the red valve to do the draining, or fill and plug the input and raise the red valve. It's not a bad livewell by any means. Especially for saltwater anglers.
You have to leave the switch on so that it continuously pumps water into the tank and then the overflow goes out through the drain. If you turn off the pump, you would have to put the included plug over the water intake inside the tank. That is also how you hold water prior to getting to the lake.
It requires forward motion to fill AND its just a recirculate tank. Not meant to leave the drain open at all. Its meant to refresh the water from time to time and leave the drain closed. One of the things I don't like about it. You're scooping hot water from the surface. Go just 1-2 feet down and the water is much cooler. I also didn't like the 6v system. I swapped to a 13 gallon shad tank I run on the back of the PA14. I can keep shad or minnows alive all day with NO water changes. I power the 12v pump on the shad tank with my 24v lithium TM battery, with a 24v-12v step down. No bubbler needed because the shad tank automatically bubbles.
I bought the XL Hobie Livewell for saltwater use and had a miserable experience too. I dont have a ton of money to waste, so i was very disappointed when i found out that i cpuldnt trust Hobie with a simple live well. I went back to my $25 Cool Bubbles bucket. It’s insulated and easy to use. Plus i feel like its less weight for me to haul around
Lights are terrific. My xl live well needs priming. Someone in California sells a tube extension cut at a forward intake angle. If you carry the kayak backwards no more wet feet and it’s fun to drone her on and off. Love your videos brother! Over
Man a few weeks ago I had the exact same thing happen - had to free all my minnows because I couldn’t get my brand new Hobie XL live well to pump correctly. I have since added a primer bulb to get it started and also an on/off switch for plugging the pump hole. Hoping I have a better experience next time.
Yes, I have the same live well you do and I also believe that you have to be moving around 2 to 3 miles an hour to force water into the intake, but I still have problems with it, it is problematic and difficult to use. Would love to see a video on a modification. Love your videos and tight lines.
I think the boat has to be moving forward to force water up into the tank. Also I think you initially need to pump the water into the tank by hand with that red handle .
Surprised the hose down thru scupper was long enough. This Hobie V-2 livewell model isn't recommended for a PA, due to shorter hose. The one you have is recommended for the Outback and other Hobie models. There is another, larger model-XL recommended only for the PA series. However, both livewells require the yak to get up to some speed forward, then start the pump motor. The forward motion primes the pump motor. You can circumvent this installing a primer bulb on the outlet side of the pump motor, then the yak being stationary, you hand pump to prime the motor, then flip the motor start switch.
I may have overlooked it if you’ve already done it, but I’m interested in your long term review of the Insta360. I noticed you swapped cameras sometime during that video. Was considering buying one but wondering what your long term thoughts were?
Did you ever do an upgrade or mods to this to get it to work better? I did a few searches on your channel but didnt see it. Recommend it now, or gave up on it?

The lights look sick! Like a green runway!

Yikes. I have the same model and just flat out gave up on mine. It’s too bulky/heavy for the headache it’s caused
Lights look good brother.

Nice kayak! And great fishing!
You think a check valve in the intake pump would help? Also, you need to get yourself a forward facing rod holder...lol
Hey TJ, i don't have bait box issues cuz i don't fish.. i always watch cuz i enjoy your kayak mods! I wish next Monday was here already! Greg

The red handle is a drain 👍🏼
@KayakUSA1 TJ can you do a walk-through video of your setup on your green Hobie?

Could put a check valve on your tubing
Glad to hear you know how to pronounce “crappie”.
I hook up a one way squeeze ball and tube to mine.

I love it, but I need more batteries 😂
@@KayakUSA1 Good to know!
Loved video is this Alabama?
Is the battery a 12v? Mine didn’t pump enough because the battery was a 6v
can the pecron run the trolling motor??? if so how long can it last it seems like it would be a better option then a standard battery
Nope 😔
A $450 piece of equipment for a hobby that needs modifications to function?
Buddy of mine has the same issues.
Did you ever do an upgrade or mods to this to get it to work better? I did a few searches on your channel but didnt see it. Recommend it now, or gave up on it?
Still on the back burner in the shop, I may try to upgrade it later but it definitely sucks as it is now lol
Awesome stuff man!
Would you be willing to share the stl file for the remote?
Do you still have the file for that 3D print and are you willing to share it?
TJ - what is the mount you have for your Ketch board?
The one behind my seat? I made that one but I had the new YakGadget holder on the side.
@@KayakUSA1 that’s awesome. I would like to make something similar. I don’t recall seeing it on the channel.
You don’t have the foot control setup on that kayak yet?
Not yet. 🤙🏼
Great vid! PFD?
Thanks, yep 👍🏼
Oh, what been going on with the Nissan Hardbody? Greg
I’m gonna hop back on that build this Fall 👍🏼
For some reason I thought you was gonna fish for crappie and put them in the live well
That’s the plan 👍🏼
Too bad about the livewell. Trailer lights look great.
That’s an insane amount of modification for such a expensive “live well”
Facts!
The livewell is ment to drain at same time as drawing water in isnt it
No, it’s meant to fill and hold water.
Oh i havent bought one yet prob just make my own with a small pump pvc tubing with holes and a eski
What happened to the camper trailer vids bro 😢
More soon 🤙🏼😉
I never thought I would see a world where a kayak costs 15,000 lol…I think we have gone too far.
Why not make one from a cooler like most catfishing guys
