- Today we are working on a 2002 Honda VTX1800 with extremely bad leaking fork seals. The seals in the bike are....leak proof brand...these are the worst set of leaking seals I've seen in a while.

Help ., dealer won't work on anything this old . Your video convinced me I can do this . Can a piece of PVC pipe be used in place of the seal install tool ? Seems like it was used to push the seal down without much pressure at all
Yes you can, I used a PVC tube for years before I could afford a seal tool. Just make sure you guide it in straight. You can do this!
@@TepcoCycleRepair Thank you so much. I really enjoy my older bikes, but it is increasingly getting more difficult to find shops that work on them. Even the 2012 Road Glide is nearing its life span You're doing a great service with your videos.
Thanks for the confidence.
I didn't write down measurement the dust cap to the tree before I slid the fork. Do u happen do know it. I think I got 3.30mm and 3.14mm.
Do you mean the spring top cap to the top of the triple? The top of the cap (not the nut portion) that's not exact,.these were at around 2mm, just make sure they are even.
Hi i dont think i missed it..but do i need any special tools for removal...or is it all standard wrenches and allens..also what size pvc pipe would i uses as seal driver thanknyou much im in need to do my vtx...also is there a soeacial wrench for the area that doesnt fot standard crescent in case i cant grind one down
You don't need any special tools and I'm not sure the PVC size, I have some I cut down but don't remember what size I cut it from.
@@TepcoCycleRepair ok great thank you..I can probably just get a few options..at the hardware store or what seal driver do you recommend if I just get the tool
How did you get the spring to compress enough to get the lock nut back on
I didn't take the springs out.
where did you buy the kit
Rockymountainatvmc.com
what happen to the springs?
You don't have to touch them when you're just doing the seals.
Missing some details on how exactly you disassembled the forks
What part? I would be more than happy to help if you have a question.
@@TepcoCycleRepair I got everything but where did attach the slide hammer ?
@@TepcoCycleRepair video is great
@@whdbnrm3023 No slide hammer, after you take the retaining clip out, you pull the upper and lower away from each other "like a slide hammer". A few hard pulls apart and they will come apart.
@@TepcoCycleRepair Sweet . Life is good again.
Thank you
What brand seals did you put in?
The new ones were OEM Honda, the old ones were "leak proof" brand.
@@TepcoCycleRepair dang, I just bought "leak proof" for mine 🤦♂️
@@carguy_tmh Dude, send them back. Every pair that I've ever seen leaked, and I mean leaked bad!
@@TepcoCycleRepair is there such a thing as a Leak proof seal ? After enough miles they leak ,period
yea....everybodys having to change oem seals...lol@@whdbnrm3023
