After realising I was too scared to finish the tutorial for Undertale I realised that I probably get scared at video games way too easily. So why do games like Minecraft, Pokemon or Undertale give you the same chills as a horror game? Well I dunno watch the video!

On my first night I was playing on peaceful mode and I was scared as HECK despite the fact there are no hostile mobs in peaceful mode

Oh my god, I thought I was the only one who had that experience with Undertale! I felt so bad for killing Toriel (thanks to really liking her as a character AND Flowey rubbing it in) that I uninstalled the game and then deleted it from my Steam library. One day I'll try it again, but I don't know when that will be. xD

Yes omega flower is scary, but I got to say that the amaglamates terrified me more. The worst part was the slowed, broken music that plays. God, that scared me.

Undertale - or more specifically the talking flower - DEFINITELY scared me to the point of walking away from the game the first time I played it. I love the game now. But it was hard to admit that a FLOWER scared me in a video game at the time.

no because you're so right about this. my first time ever playing stardew valley i was incomprehensibly nervous the entire time because there were key moments that had given me a very unsettling feeling. it's like constantly hanging on the edge of your seat - fearing the worst but the expected jumpscare never happens. it felt suspenseful the whole time, esp at night.

Honestly the Lost Woods in botw was the reason why 200 hours in I still hadn't got the Master Sword. Idk the music is so ominous, and when you get lost in the mist that little korok laugh that plays just scared me to death. Also the Metroid Dread jump scares at the start of the game were quite effective.

When I was younger I used to be scared of gaster from undertale. The way his sprite jumped up when you interacted with it in the secret room just freaked me out and disturbed me, and tbh it still kinda does. It's just so unsettling.

Okay but tbh I really like it when games do this thing that they hide unsettling things behind character reactions and make you imagine what they saw. The whole thing with Monica (that name has to be cursed in games) in fire emblem sacred stones still gives me chills despite me having beaten the game two times.

A hat in time was the one that got me the most. That queen Vanessa level scared me so much more than any horror games I played, because of how random it was.

I clicked on this video and for a TH-cam bug a video about the OST "River Twyzg Bed" from Super Paper Mario played instead of this one.
The fact is, that two minutes before this happened I just listened for the first time to the reversed version of that OST.

However I'll be disappointed if there isn't Super Paper Mario after what I just experimented.

The first Uncharted is easily the best example of this. I thought it would just be a generic action game, but holy crap I never saw that coming! It’s honestly a more effective horror experience than DDLC.

A really spooky part for me was in Lightbearer, the part where you take the purple pills and you fall into a bad trip.
In the bad trip, you have to walk to this door at the end of a corridor, but the lift behind you is chasing you. Oh and the mirror room, there's a lot of floating masks and its almost pitch-black.

Flowey's the only videogame villain I've ever seen who's actually truly scared me. He's written so well and his whole deal about clinging to the last shreds of his forgotten humanity turning him into this monster is just so unsettling
I was playing Yo-Kai Watch, and an event called Terror Time happened which makes a hideous oni giant run after you, and when the event started, the power went out turning off all the lights. And this was at night, meaning the only thing keeping ten year old me out of the dark was my 3DS, that was currently displaying a horrific, giant oni monster.

A perfect example of a scary section is the Vanessa’s Manor from A Hat in Time you can skip it via an easy glitch but I had to do that on my first play through since I had no idea that there was a skip also if you fail to get the key before Vanessa gets to you, you’ll realise that it turns from cute/goofy to a slenderman game which is even more scary since every other part of the game is goofy and cute. I get that they did that to give subcon forest a lore but there’s hundreds of ways to do that.Maybe it has to do with the snatcher being scary but goofy at the same time.
