I do as well. They’re cheaper in cost, hold up for years, and when you buy the same brand you have many compatible batteries! I’m 43, I hope when I’m 78 I’m like you, still out using my tools.

This lil machine does exactly th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHMc_g3gGUpXsBlcRniL7qDnlxwo192gi what it was designed to do, and does it well. I have used it for a few small limbs, worked great. Then, I had a trimming project beyond my capabilities (total tree removal x 3). Hired a professional crew for the job. Their pole saw threw a chain, wrapped up and bent the bar, rendering it useless. "Hey, I have an idea!". Pulled out my Dewalt pole saw, slapped in a fresh battery, filled the bar oil reservoir and handed it to the crew. Told them see what can do, don't baby it! And they put it through its paces. It performed flawlessly. I think I saw a tear when one of the crew handed it back (might have been sweat, but the tear version makes a better story).Worked like a charm doing the little trimming I do, but has the cohones for a pro crew. One thing to mention, when you are finished, drain the bar lube tank back in the bottle. It will leak out when sitting in the saw.

I’ve been using it for the past week. I’m an older 5’3” female, I was very leery about using this because every video was a male user. Female center of gravity is much lower than male, and men have more upper body strength. Ryobi pole saw is excellent. I went up very high reach up and cut thick branches, thank god for the strap, I found that was very helpful for balancing the weight. My neighbor that does home upgrades is very impressed as well.

I purchased one of these 3 years ago and, like others, have been impressed with what it will cut.
Wobbly poles, yes, but i figure some epoxy resin between the pole and fittings will fix that.
Oil; the first one i bought i returned as faulty because it leaked oil everywhere. It was replaced, but, of course, had the same problem. I tried stuffing the oil tank with sponge to slow the flow. To much, no flow now. This is a bad design feature, bit i was interested to note one of your other commentors said the same about the DeWalt brand. No cure on mine YET!
Incidentally, i suggest the reason it clogs so much is because of the excess oil which mixes with the sawdust and sticks to the covers, thus blocking them. Good primer on making the cuts for branches.

I am a 68 year old female. And I have a lemon tree on my property that I have to trim from time to time I’m tired of paying the gardener who is asking ridiculous price to do that so I purchased myself one of these. I bought mine last year. I just took a little break to cool down from using mine !! I've been VERY happy with it. I've done a lot of chainsaw work over my 67 years and have to say I am quite impressed with this little homeowner tool. The battery lasts quite a while too. I have a "REAL" chainsaw for the "HE MAN" stuff but have to say I love this saw for the lightweight branches I need to cut. I've never been disappointed with mine at all.

Thanks, that's nifty! I got interested in a small chain saw on a pole after watching professional tree trimmers attack a downed tree with branches covering my garage yesterday. I have an EGO battery-powered chainsaw but I hate using it on overhead limbs while standing on a ladder. I'm 72 and it's too dangerous to do so. But that battery-powered pole chainsaw looks ideal to trim the branches growing around the many wires stretching from the telephone pole to my house. I'm sold!

Thank you very much for this review, I am buying one of these shortly as we are approaching the pruning season here. Your pros and cons tips helped me as I would have been caught out by the chain oil leaking out when placing the unit down or when in storage. One thing I do with my small chainsaw is I use a paint brush to remove all the excess sawdust etc that builds up in and around the chain cover. The brush does get a bit grotty after a while when it gets covered in chain oil and sawdust but a wash with warm soapy water gets it back to new.
    Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing. I already bought one of these things more than 2 years ago but I have a sever lung problem and never used it. I assembled it and tested it and its pretty much too heavy for me. I've never even switched it on.. But I've been thinking of giving it a try again recently.. I also have a hand saw on a even longer pole and I find that quite good for cutting a lot of high branches, I have to work very very slow of course, it's manual sawing, no motor, but its so much lighter and easy to use.

Thanks for the excellent, comprehensive review. Mine was delivered today (in UK) and I just wanted to see the set up and first use. One of your negatives said it was a bit too flexible because of fibre glass poles, I will watch out for that when I first use it at full length. Another was your comment about the strap being more or less redundant in use, I'll assess that in use and see how I cope with it. Your demonstration was an education for me as a 1st time chainsaw user. Thanks again.

I have only just found your pages. Couple of things with your "cons". Ryobi do recommend using the chest harness for full extension or long use. Having to refill the bar oil regularly. Does have the added reason of not overheating the chain or 7n8t. Other than that, I enjoyed your review. Fair and unbiased. My entire workshop is ryobi one + tools. I use the drills, impact drivers and such in a semi commercial forge and truck repair business. 10 plus years. Not one warranty claim

I’ve had one of these for a few years for my palm trees. My complaints:
My chain is constantly loose and needs constant retightening. Don’t forget to unscrew that cover nut. FYI: 10mm nut for the cover.
Very wobbly, and mine is not due to the rivets. Just terrible connection set up.
Oil goes too quickly, but you can hear a change in the sound of chain.
I still use it, but think I would have liked a more sturdy brand.

I purchased the Dewalt chain saw after watching your very informative video. The rivets on the pole connections, the tiny oil reservoir, the plastic hook which braces the saw against the tree were all big factors. They both share the same 'cons'. The straps are next to useless, they both drip oil unless stored upright and they're heavy. I usually carry mine around like I am holding a rifle on parade. I clean mine daily after use. Happy to have purchased Dewalt, ryobi not quite there yet.

House On the Mend yup, for somebody with Dewalt batteries the all metal construction with aluminum poles is worth the 10$ although no included shoulder strap one can be added. The Dewalt is a bit more powerful as well. I’ll say the ryobi is very capable had I not owned a bunch of 9ah Dewalt batteries I would have kept it.

One con you missed out is that it would be good if you could connect the chainsaw head directly to the handle, so allowing it to be very short for close up work like chopping the fallen branch up. At the moment you have to stand 6' or more away from it,

I got a guy to reduce the height of some of my hedges. He decided to use it to cut the thick hedges that the clippers couldn't handle. He got very frustrated to be constantly filling up with oil and just stopped using it. Luckily i have an expand it pole saw that I barely use so he used that and got the job done. I use it alot to trim the trees in my yard. The expand it for me makes too much noise and I have to be using air protectors whenever I use it. I only use it on extremely thick branches.

I have the same pole saw and his review is highly accurate. The flexing of the pole when it is fully extended is disappointing. Given the price it's not going to be perfect. It's ok for me. I use it to trim a couple trees like every other year. If I used it weekly I would go for a more solid model.

I have done a bit of chainsaw work and it seems any wood that has a lot of sap is the worst enemy. Then comes sand and grit. I have never had a chain saw drift on me and to sharpen I just use a Dremel drill.

After owning this for a few years. I can still say it's one of the best battery tools I own. However because it's the only Ryobi One tool I have the batteries all died young in my opinion. There are also a lot of counterfeit batteries sold under this brand. Meaning they have been rebuilt with very cheap or used 18650 cells.

I have the electric cord version. I have a love / hate relationship with it and the cord is a pain. No middle extension pillar pole so limited reach length. I just noticed their is a battery 40 volt version with the middle pillar extension pole. I have high palm trees and use a ladder and any extra extension pole would be great. I use a cat litter pan to catch the bar oil drips. LOL.

I got one of these about a year ago, after I got a Ryobi 12" chainsaw- that one does have a better size oil reservoir. I thought I could just get out my 8 ft ladder- oops! My pole saw worked ok, and as with yours, ran low on oil quickly- and maybe, that is why the smaller battery was included? Some of the smaller batteries do have meters, but for the price, l prefer 4aH or higher; I used a 4aH, and next time, I will use the smaller size. But now, I am worried that my poles have become weaker due to the rivets as well? And, I also found that the strap was not useful w/this pole saw, but it might do well with the 1 gallon chemical sprayer? I also have Ridgid tools, all corded tools, and love those: hammer drill, screw shooter, 10" table saw, and two 1/4 sheet sanders; but all of my cordless tools are Ryobi, most of them purchased on sale. Great review- thanks!
