Oh man as a quest 2 owner I’m enjoying my 3D sketches in Adobe medium and tilt brush. It’s very amazing. Wish I could see more longer video walkthroughs of different sculpting or painting in VR.
Thank you so much. I was listening to an art teacher talking about how "VR sculpting is basically the future" and I thought...Why? I honest thought, "I'd love to hear what Borodonte has to say about that." And boom, 3 days later, this video appears. You are the best, I highly value your opinion on art tech and painting methods.
Sadly there's a lot of misinformation in this video. I hope BoroCG takes the time to explore Medium in more detail, as well as other VR sculpting apps that are more close to Zbrush, and makes a more informed video on this topic.
Hey Boro! Please try out Kodon on steam! It's a sculpting program that is taking direct feedback from artists and has a good record of constantly improving the tool to be the next standard in vr. I would love to hear your thoughts on it as it also works on tablets in pc mode. The resolution is the biggest benefit as its aiming to be comparable to zbrush in vr at a fraction of the price.
@@Vode1234 I have ShapeLab and Kodon both now and Kodon is way too buggy. The framerate makes me sick in vr. I'm used to ShapeLab now, but I'll watch the progress in both. I don't miss the voxel based sculpting in ShapeLab, I like how you sculpt away with polygons. I like the control over the topology in ShapeLab too. Kodon has a lot of work to do, 'cause it' 's still way to unstable.
@@Vode1234 Hey, would I need an external PC for these programs or can I use them just with the headsets? I can't afford expensive machines with all their crazy nvidia GPUs, but I wonder if there is a way around with steam etc.
Finally!...been nagging you about vr for 2 years. Thoughts on gravity sketch? May as well check it out if you haven’t it’s free, the native quest version runs great too....also I thought medium was an in house oculus product.
@@fkknsikk oh shit really? My gpu is busted and I’ve been waiting on the 3000 series to become more available and less stupidity priced for a god damn ice age, so I’m out of the loop on that one, interesting.

Yes VR sculpting is very unique when sculpting with voxels - thou, "3D coat" on PC is a nice Voxel sculptor too without any limitations. I don't think you can get the same combination with Voxels and VR sculpting anywhere else using Medium.
Love the content! Now that you are VR capable, you should check out Quill! It's a VR illustration and Animation program and I always see people making some really detailed things with it.
I got my first vr one month ago also. I got the hp reverb G2. I been trying out quill. I see a lot of potential with it but I’m not very good with it. That and I can’t stop playing beat saber. I really should get back to some art making.
one of the main reasons they did it in that voxelized way is because it is faster. most companies hated it a few years ago. but when you are making VR games it must be 90 frames per second or you will get motion sick very easily. anyway long story short it is very complex.
I've got Kodon and Shapelab. Really don't want to give Adobe money but Medium/Substance Modeller are pretty good. I think I'll go for a Kodon to Shapelab workflow because voxels are great to start with
Discovered another version sculpting app shapelab, it’s like a light version of zbrush, the cool thing is dynamic tesselation, so it’s better for details and surface texture. I’m going to build the form in medium and finish it with that.
Interesting. This would rock for vertex by vertex and polies modeling. I mean, an VR version of Blender and Wings 3D is what I'll wait to jump into VR modeling :D
@@Norwaynumber1, thanks but it's not the case here. I actually contacted Oculus and Quill before purchasing my Quest 2, and both confirmed the Oculus Link cable is needed as Quill is a Rift app (not Quest). The same should apply to Adobe Medium and this is why I'm confused. I made some search online and could not find any workaround; hence the question.
@@MuhammadAtTayiebAlHyari As of yesterday, Oculus has allowed official wireless VR streaming via Virtual Desktop, so now you don't need an Oculus Link anymore. PS. I should note that wireless streaming was possible before, but unofficially. This is why Oculus told you "it's not possible" even though you see BoroCG doing it here. But now it's officially possible.
Hi Boro! You should check out Gio Nakpil's techniques for sculpting in Medium :) Also Samuel Poirier is the beast when it comes to VR sculpting! You can get amazing results with the right approach.
You can just increase your voxel detail level at any time for the wrinkles. And there are other tools that work better for that in Medium. Unless you are on the Quest 2 native app. Sculpting in VR should be PC only unless it's just quick drafts.
I feel like Medium is severely hobbled by its small toolset and some crucial missing features. I feel like it was built as a concept program to demo the original Oculus Touch controllers on the Rift CV1, and it's been an afterthought for a while. They're still updating it, but it's slow going.
It seems like the program would benefit from having a smoothing/stabilization feature because the hands are a bit shaky (virtual hands, not yours) so it maks a lot of jagged lines~
Hi....How you run medium on quest 2 without cable? i try to start this, but medium failed to initialize rendering system...its works only with oculus link cable. help please =\
It is cool. I wana play with it. But like you have shown, its seems as though it is only a play thing. Can you actually save and import or export files? Hopefully it doesnt get lost and forgotten about in the sea of endless trendy digital thingies. Maybe someone could do something with Sculptris and VR....hmmm.........
You need a VR ready computer, the VR headset (preferably Oculus Quest 2) + an Oculus link cable. The program (Adobe Medium) itself is free on the Oculus store.
I am very sorry to hear that "this is the level of detail that you can get with this tool". Please don't lead others to misinformation. Go watch some of the Gio Nakpil videos on facebooks' medium Channel. Maybe you could reference them here as well
For me sculpting in VR is very uncomfortable. There is a reason why zbrush not go in that path - it's useless when you have to move hands in air all the time and not having sense of pressure of yours virtual clay and brush. But It's OK to do something for fun and sometimes that's all you need ;)
I don’t want be critical but please go more in depth on this software. Medium needs to be given a chance. At least show your viewers what people are capable of creating so that this powerful tool can reach the hands of more interested creatives.

Something i really like about his old videos is how he went off on tangents every so often, these short videos are kinda like seeing that again :)
I randomly started 3D scultping in Mm Dreams on PS4 and I was shocked at how amazing it felt. Glad to see that it’s also possible with the Quest 2!
