FREE Camping in BC while RVing Vancouver Island's NORTH End

- As we start Class C RVing to NORTHERN Vancouver Island we luck out with some FREE Camping in BC. With FREE FIREWOOD included at these sites for us, that's a full time RV living bonus! The RV vlog and RV life continues friends, let's get CAMPING!🍁
Since we will be catch the ferry to the Sunshine coast in a more central Vancouver Island location, we figured we better RV the North first and then end closer to the ferry. It was a mountainous drive in the Class C RV to get North but no problem for our rig! We also don't have any BC Provincial Parks coming up for awhile so it's going to be finding free camping and boondocking as the mission for awhile.
We briefly visited Campbell River before RVing north and we really enjoyed this town. Lots of free parking for our Class C RV and free camping overnight opportunities (boondocking) we hope to take advantage of. It's also so scenic being able to park free right at the Fisherman's Pier and take in some amazing Vancouver Island ocean views.
RVing North we were worried about finding a camping site but managed to find a free BC recreation camping site in a good location too. They had also recently fallen some trees there so while FREE Camping BC, we also got FREE FIREWOOD! It was very wet wood but hey, the price was right haha. We stayed at the beautiful Marble River Recreation Camp site, located right near the highway and just outside out the Marble River Provincial Park area. We even managed to get some RV camping on the River side one night.

The huckleberries are probably one of the reasons there are bears everywhere.
Very true. The bushes are everywhere up there, and right by the river as well. No bear footage yet to record on the trip still though as of yet. Take care!🙂🍁

Salmon easy recipe is put on foil layer soy sauce, brown mustard, brown sugar and onions over top sliced. Fold up foil and bake or grill to your preference. Mmmm! So good!

I’m late to your vlog but I really enjoyed it. I grew up in the Nimpkish Valley. You might want to try the campsite at Woss Lake or Vernon Lake.
thanks again, idea for you, you should be able to find a few easily accessible clear cut areas where generally you can find tons of good firewood. you wont get rounds but there will be lots of small logs and branches around 1 - 4 inches thick that you can cut down. also this wood has been sitting in the sun, sometimes for years so it can be tinder dry. its totally fine to take all you want and when stacked these logs make pretty camp fires. I hate paying for firewood and always load up at these places. keep having fun and i enjoyed the video!

Hi there. Great video. I live on Vancouver Island and we regularly take our boats up to the north end of the island……I’m famous now as a result of your video 😎. At about 3:11 in the video……you captured us going south returning with our boats (red truck pulling a white boat with red stripe). I was with a couple of other boats…..my neighbor appears next

The firewood isn’t wet - it’s green. It needs to sit for a year before it’s worth burning. Check out ‘planked' salmon, it’s the traditional way of cooking and adds flavour as well as keeping the fish together

We watch Northwest or whatever on TV the guys are troopers who protect the woods and water check to see if people have their fishing licence. It is maybe eleven dollars if you get one or a 400.00 dollar fine if you don't. Make sure you check to be sure .
Being from Vancouver Island and classified as an Island Girl, it seems a bit weird to watch a video on the places I've grown up around! But, hey! I'm glad you enjoyed 'my Island' and were able to share is so beautifully!-Sue
You must have some Paul Bunyan in you or that axe is really awesome ! I thought I saw a couple spots along the river at that rec site where we could have fit our truck camper :-) If you're camped next to any truck campers again, try and get a shot for us :-) The drone footage was also spectacular and really emphasizes the beauty of BC. You might look for one of those hinged fish baskets to grill fillets on the fire .... makes it easy to turn the fish without losing any.
The axe is pretty good, but still took a little extra effort haha. I grew up around firewood and having a wood stove so have a little history with splitting firewood at least prior to camping. Your truck camper would've totally made it in there too, a few people had decent sized travel trailers backed in etc too. Nice little spot just off the highway as opposed to a bumpy forest service road drive. Thanks for watching 😁🍁

Hey there! So lucky right. Wood is still drying in the hatch it was so fresh trying to burn it haha. We want to learn more about foraging so jam seemed like a good starting point to wing it haha. Cheers 😸🍁
@@LukeandAlysha Fun fact: that's western hemlock you're trying to dry. It has the highest moisture content of all the conifers that grow on northern VI and none of the locals would use it for firewood. When the loggers transport it in floating log booms they have to bundle the logs together as some of the logs are so saturated they will sink and be lost on the trip to the sawmill.
Dang, thanks Paul. That makes sense, it's sooo wet haha even once the fire gets rolling adding anything a little thicker just smokes and takes forever. Requires a whole lot of kindling to dry it up haha. Oh boy but at least it was free and is drying away in the hatch a little haha. Cheers!🙂🍁
Got absolutely eaten alive by mosquitoes at Marble river, which is really strange because the river is fast flowing, not usually conducive to mosquitoes. Beautiful place though, good fishing, and don't forget when the camp site was made they had the for-site to leave the old growth yellow cedar, so there are some lovely, huge trees.
Buy an 8 pound sledge hammer. Its only.about 12 inches long. With that and your hatchet, you can easily split those large rounds. Start Spliting logs from the outside edge, not the middle core. Much easier to split, that way.
Just watched your video ( which was great 👍 ), but wanted to let you know that 90% of the people at the nimpkish rec area are not locals. “Us” locals have had to find other hidden camping spots 🙂 glad you guys find a spot! Enjoy the rest of your trip 😁

Hey there! It was easy, as long as they still allow overnight stays still. We did move spots one ight to the other side of it too though as some people came around to drink and hangout in the middle of the night once. Happy camping and thanks for watching!🙂🍁

Hello from Okinawa, Japan. We can only say that for 32 more days! We had a thermacell with our last Rv. It was great against the Alaska mosquitoes. Does it still work well? It’s been 8 years. BC is such a beautiful place. We hope to be able to go through next summer.
Hey there! Right on well enjoy those last days and get lots of pictures/video of your favorite spots to look back on. The ambiance video can get with the sound may be worth it too! Thermacell seems to work well but have been burning the dollar store black could as well just in case since they're so cheap to have as back up / another source of prevention. The few extra cents to be mosquito free is worth it after last year's struggles haha. Cheers🙂🍁
Those are pine beetles, dont get bit by it....its not poisonous....its just not an experience you want.

Ahh ok, thanks for the heads up was curious. That makes sense with all the huckleberry bushes around too then, I believe our booked said they grow together. Going to take awhile to dry in the hatch then, will have to cut them thin and use extra 😂. Thanks again and take care Ken!🍁

Ahh that's too bad! I believe the may have been a little worse, at least for the interior this year too. Glad the nets worked out for you guys at least. Imagine you had plenty of repellent tried but I really like the 10 pack of black coil burners you can even find at the dollar store. Cheap enough you can light a few extra haha. Cheers!🙂🍁

Didn't realize you guys were going to the tip of the Island. You HAVE to go to Robson Bight and watch the orca rub themselves on the beach. Not sure if it is open due to Covid, but if so it is a once in a lifetime experience for sure.

Luke and Alysha Very rugged. That’s why we moved to the Comox Valley after marriage. Then we moved again. We now own a place in Chemainus though we don’t live there. (have you been?). Lived in Kitimat BC, Fort McMurray, Ab, and now Calgary Alberta. .My husband was born in Duncan and raised in Lake Cowichan, Sewel Inlet (then Quenn Charlotte Islands...now called Haida Gwai) and Port Alice (as a teen). We go to the Okanagan every summer for the past 11 years, we LOVE Peachland. We got around in our 50 something years (and not in a class C, til now) Maybe someday we will bump into you. Look for the Adventurer with the Happy Camper spare tire cover, the Canada plate on the front and the Alberta plate on the back😉

Hucks are purple and small, and the bushes don't grow that tall!
Actually there are red huckleberries in BC - and they can be big bushes!

Howdy there! I would say the farther away you are from civilization the easier it will be as a trade off. So around Victoria it was pretty hard to find a spot that didn't feel wrong or too encroaching, but a shorter drive outside of say Campbell River and it gets a whole lot easier. Finding forest service roads and browsing satellite view looking for pullouts is the way to go in my opinion. Thanks for watching and happy camping!🍁

Thats hemlock makes shitty firewood hard to split burns not great. You wanna look for douglas fir or red alder. And huckleberries if go into higher elevations you can find blue huckleberries they taste better
Agreed, it certainly was poor firewood haha. Likely had been fallen recently too which certainly didn't help. Managed to make due for not having any other wood options though! Cheers 🙂🍁

The stupidest thing you can imagine - camping in RV. What's the point?
