My old stomping grounds...we spent 12 or so years in Sooke so the boys and I tramped all over the area out past Jordon River to Renfrew. We were there before the trail was developed but my fondest memories were of Botanical Beach and everything my sons learned there, poking in tidal pools, flipping rocks.
I, too, love Ontario's campsite checkout time of 1 pm. Allows for a bacon and eggs breakfast, enough time to clean up, pack and leisurely get on your way.

I have ever only camped in the group site at French Beach but have made quite a few day trips to French Beach from our home in Victoria. Just back from Little Qualicum Falls. Barberton next then Elk Falls. We love the BC Parks on our Island. We have a quite small trailer but totally understand the blind dude back in situation. Do love the privacy most BC Parks provide although I do have a list of our favourite sites.

Tysm for this,Ray. I've always wondered what the campground was like and now we know. Seriously thinking of going sometime next year as we're booked this year at campgrounds until early October. Looks really nice!

They might have water fill at the dump station, but I wouldn't use it. Thanks for your video!

Across the road from the entrance to the park, you can get connected to a Shaw hotspot to pick up or send messages or emails. Worked well for us, you can usually find others hanging out there doing the same :)

Thank you for making this video. Im thinking of choosing this campground for my first ever vacation " not joking ". Im considering going end of April or early May. Bc parks couldnt answer my questions so im grateful for you doing this video. My various questions are 1) i have some mobility issues now, are there any paths with easy access to the beach? I can walk but not long distances so my hubby would bring my walker down, or a collaspable chair and id use my cane. But i heard to access the beach its all a steep climb down, is this the case or any easier pathways to access the beach? Also, you mention campsite 20 has a view through the trees of the ocean, so it would be one of the sites closer to the beach for walking? How many others would be like that and do you happen to know their numbers? Would it be 19 and 21 or would those be across the road? Is there a host or security? Is it a nice quite campground? Would it be cold in late April or into May? How would i know how high or low the tide would be in April or May. The path you walked to the beach, looked easy access am i right, no steep embankment to climb down? Hope to hear back from you and again i appreciate your video 🙂

Here is a clip of the easiest path down th-cam.com/video/NarGrvvgDmk/w-d-xo.html It is paved for wheelchair accessibility but does have a down hill grade to it. All the campsites are high above the beach so not easy to walk from them, you have to drive to the parking area then take the path down. Sometimes they have camp hosts and rangers drive through for patrol. I've never had any security concerns in provincial parks. April and May the weather can sometimes be cold or warm, you never know but usually its jacket weather and can often rain especially in April, sometimes May can have quite hot days. Cheers, Ray

I have to say that I really liked that Provincial park. I don't want to make you mad, but the West Coast beaches absolutely suck as far as I'm concerned. I grew up in the southeast and the beaches here are fabulous. Walking around in gravel doesn't do me any good. I love soft sand.

We have sandy beaches too www.victoriabuzz.com/2022/04/parksville-beach-festival-will-return-this-summer-and-it-promises-to-be-better-than-ever/ www.loveyourrv.com/fall-visit-to-pacific-rim-national-park-vancouver-island-bc/ and rocky beaches with interesting tide pools www.loveyourrv.com/remarkable-botanical-beach-on-vancouver-island/ I find that the topography and scenery is much more interesting on the west coast.

Every camp ground that I've used seem to favor blind side back in. I think they just want to make it difficult.

I really like provincials. I can't stand being at the 'camp grounds' that are jammed in close together and it's like camping in a farm field or parking lot with zero privacy. French is nice, but can get marine fog in the morning making it a bit cool and damp.
If you go to the beach, facing the ocean, and walk all the way down the beach to the right, there's some really nice sandstone rocks with fossil shells in them.
