My hole in one was a jarred shot during a family reunion tournament. Funny part was the day before I couldn't for the life of me get over the water and took at 16 on the same hole!

Hey Mr. Shiels! A couple weeks ago I hit my first hole-in-one and won my club’s junior league (I’m 12). I want to thank you because I found myself using many of your tips. For example on 9 I was in a divot in my drive. Put in a green side bunker, and made and up-and-down for par. All three shots were tips that you taught me! Thanks!

I’d love to see you do a set of irons and driver/woods for the average golfer. Just run of the mill clubs what is best bang for the buck
He done a review on a set of callaway edge clubs bought from Costco at £500, off the back of that I bought them, went from a 28 to 21 handicap since I’ve had them and still learning.

Yeah same here Dan, I had an old set of clubs prior so they really make a difference, also since watching his how to hit a driver video I’ve honestly fixed my slice, played 18 yesterday at largs golf course and won! Beating my two mates who are an 18 handicap. Improving all the time thanks Rick

Funnily enough I think the Scandinavian (at least Swedish) word for tungsten is wolfram even though the English word stems from Swedish... Languages are weird...

Club manufacturers have lost their minds with these prices. PXG has totally screwed us golfers with these insane prices. You can get Bridgestone irons for a fraction of the cost with same performance. Once other manufacturers saw people were paying insane prices for PXG they raised their prices. I, for one, refuse to be extorted. Find clubs you like, wait 6 months to a year and get them for half price.

The P770s seems like a copy of the PXG 0211s but without being a progressive set. With PXGs current price drop, they are almost half the price for seemingly the same tech. Would love to see a head to head between the new 770s and the 0211s that have been out for just over a year now.
You bringing up “needing more guns” makes me want to see a day in the life eating and training like Bryson DeChambeau, great video and beautiful looking irons!

What planet are taylormade on!??! £1200 for set of irons?!! Listen up taylormade, we are now living in a world where people are losing money & their jobs, new golf clubs are at the bottom of people's priorities, unless you're Rick, however for some, the welcome relief of their weekly round, is probably putting their stresses out of their minds for a few hours, I would encourage people to take up the game, but when companies are ripping people off, its no wonder the amount of people playing the game is in decline, the cost is not justifiable, complete con artists.
I think it’s pretty lame when a company mucks with the lofts to make their irons go farther. To me, it’s deceptive marketing because most of the golfers out there have no idea what the lofts are of their irons and how that affects the ball flight. Also, there isn’t a lot of “technology” or innovation in de-lofting an iron.
It’s is a bit deceptive, but there is also a practical reason why the have to de-loft the club. CG. With the way companies are moving materials around the head, and using multi material construction, if you left the lofts “standard” the ball would go straight up in the air and the gaps would be too tight. Trust me I’m with ya, I still play a set of dci 962s from 1997, and I play a 3 iron as my 210 club. If I bought a new set of irons I wouldn’t need a 3, but I would need a gap wedge to fill the gap a stronger PW would create. It’s just something you factor into the game these days. As long as you know your distances and your gaps, the number on the club means nothing...as Rick and other reviewers have said. Great point.
They'll stumble upon an issue in a few years tho. Will they have 25 degree 7irons next? I doubt. They'll come back to 'normal' lofts snd call it Taylor Made Pure or something..

Agreed, TaylorMade sent us a set of P-790's but I asked them to give us standard lofts. They did still go further but only a few yards over my blades, but not 15+ like they did playing 4 degrees strong.
These P770s are actually much closer to traditional lofts than their predecessors. If you compare them to rival companies, they're significantly weaker now about 3 degrees weaker than say the callaways which I currently own and am not enjoying.

Rick I just played yesterday and it was become dark, I really thought I made my first hole in one. Turns out it was a foot and a half exactly just right of the hole. Didn’t see a pitch mark on the green anywhere😂 so I could have slam dunked it but because of COVID the pool noodle inside could have ruined it for me😂
As a relatively beginner golfer I used to roll my eyes when people harped on about sending one out the back and thinking that was just me finally hitting correctly vs the other shots. Then I had a nice 130 pitching wedge shot to the green and I sent my pitch wedge 150+ over the back. Infuriating

Maybe I read it wrong but did you only have 7 yards of drop off with a 4 iron on off centered hits? If so I think that is pretty impressive. Anything under 10 yards i would take cause chances are you're just going to be playing at the center of the green with a long iron so there's a good chance it would still make it to the front even on a bad hit.

These look just like the blueprints, I understand you love that look. Personally, they aren't my cup of tea. They do look like they perform though.
Really enjoy your reviews, but is distance control with a 7 iron relevant ? Inconsistencies come from the longer irons as the hollow area is progressively smaller in the shorter clubs as more forgiveness isn’t required. Be more interesting to see this test with a 5 iron.

By far the best looking irons they’ve brought out in a very long time. I’m currently playing the P760’s. I’d like a combo set with P770/MC.
Apart from looks these are the same as our P760s by the looks of things.

They look unreal but are not that soft at all. The sim udi and dhy are actually softer than these clubs. Let down for me

Interesting...when he's reviewing a TaylorMade club he uses a Titleist ball when he's reviewing a Titleist club he uses a Taylormade ball.
Got fitted and bought mine almost 3 weeks ago. I'm having major excitement anxiety waiting for them to get here. If that's even a thing lol. They just need to hurry up and get here. It's my first ever set I've owned myself and got fitted for.
@S L still havent gotten them yet unfortunately, golf galaxy told me the ship date is November 3rd but theyve been experiencing people getting theirs 2 to 3 weeks earlier than the ship date so im hoping ill get them sometime this month. i am going back to him them at golf galaxy this saturday and even though i only hit the 7 iron at a simulator, it feels really really good.
What am I missing? Rick's saying these are great, Ben Hogan Icons are amazing, Mizuno is fantastic, and they're all good looking? All are his favourite? Credibility? Sponsors talking through him? I'd like to see what he doesn't like?

A little something different for you Rick. Any way you could do a video on golf course etiquette, as far as repair ball marks on green, replacing divots, walking in someone's lines, hitting into people, etc., etc. Unfortunately lately I have been seeing less and less golf course etiquette and following written and unwritten rules. And not just from young people, but old guys as well. You are a great influencer on the game and I think so many people and places would benefit from this kind of video. Whether you believe it or not you have helped so many people's game and made it more fun to play and people look up to you. Sorry so long and thanks for the videos, they have really helped my game.
Just bought a slightly used set of these (no 4 iron tho) for $600. They are in superb shape (no scratches or knicks) and I loved the feel.
Haven't had a proper set since I started getting serious about golf 3 years ago. Was playing my grandfather's old oversized Wilsons with senior flex shafts (I'm 33, lol).
I am beyond excited for the season to start here in Pennsylvania. Might get out in a couple days if the courses are dried out enough.

The closest competition I can think of when I take looks/feel/performance/lofts into consideration is the Mizuno MP20 HMB.

@@Stevekingg.1965 This review of the HMB VS. P770 may interest you. Their have very similar technology and both are very attractive. It could be that you have a shaft model/flex in your HMB's that does not suit you - as this can completely alter how an iron plays. Mizuno has a very good "Shaft Optimizer 3D" system whereby you take three good swings, and it generates a recommended list of shafts in descending order which can be used for any brand purchase. th-cam.com/video/2rIrsW3broY/w-d-xo.html

I'm a 7 handicap but I'm also 62. Which Irons would you suggest for distance and playability, I can work the ball both directions but normally hit a straight to slightly drawn ball. My club head speed is pretty average and my last Irons I hit a 7 Iron about 150, would like 10 more yards.

I’d love to see rick bounce a few ball off some sheep at lillooet sheep pasture course in lillooet bc Canada , If I had them I’d be unbeatable
I bought a 4-P set with Modus Tour 130x shafts, 1 degree flat and a degree weak on loft and they are incredible. Love the look and feel. I'm a 1.8 handicap and these are as good as any irons out there. I strike the ball well but coming from Mizuno blades to these has been a definite positive. Great review Rick!

In all fairness, the 4i shot out the rough that you put in the water would probably be a 3H hybrid shot or maybe a wood for some players. I know you don't usually use a rescue hybrid but lots of people use a 3H/3R as their 5 wood/3-iron equivalent.
(3H is lofted like a 5W so it's possible to have a 3W and 3H in the same bag without being redundant).
The P7 MC irons look even more like a direct copy of Mizuno’s MP-64 irons

Great review Rick, love my P760’s interesting comment about the workability of the club as I thought it was just me, my old Mizuno irons just seemed a shade easier to shift however I find the 760’s are nicer to hit with better more consistent shot shape 👍👍👍👍

No criticism of the font this time, Rick? 😉. It’s the same font as on the P730 where you described the 4 as an “unfinished H” and you hated it. Changed your mind about it?.

Last week, 1/27/23, Carls Golfland had the previous model P-770 irons, 3-PW, for $999.00. They were the 2020 version, which I think are better looking anyway. May still have that price?? Better than the $1485 price for the newer 2023 model (4-PW + GW)
I made the mistake of getting rid of my ‘20 P770 for a set of i525, then a set of Rogue ST Pro irons. Neither felt as good as the ‘20 P770 even though the Ping & Callaway irons were about 10-15 yds longer per club (approx 3* stronger for each iron). I didn’t want the stronger lofts since I felt it masked swing issues that I have and want to correct the right way. My P770 7-iron was a consistent 145-148 carry, the Ping was 155-160 and the Callaway was also about 160 carry. I want more distance by improving my swing, not changing my clubs. I was lucky enough to replace my Callaways & get one of the last few sets of new ‘20 P770 irons. Not letting these go again.

Playing with Ping G410 D and 3W cut down and weight adjusted. Ping i500 pw to 3 retro lofts, and Vokey sm8 58/54/50. All quite new. Sickest set i've ever had by a mile. Game changing, enjoyment changing, score changing clubs. wow. If you have the money, do research, get fitted and get an amazing set too.
The P790 copied PXG's foam filled technology. Now this P770 head shape is copied from the Mizuno MP20 HMB and likewise the TM P770MB head shape is copied from Mizuno MP20. The MC iron is a remake of the 2004 rac MC. I've played TM rac MBs since 2004 but I hate what the brand now brings to market.
No doubt about it, they look fantastic. However, £1299.00!! That’s borderline extortion!! I’ve still got my 2017 P790’s in the bag. Had the all lofts made weaker by a fitter for £10 a club. (ie. 7 iron is now 33degs.) Have now got so called (tradition) lofts and the P790 forgiveness.
These don’t match up to the 790’s. 790 is still the best looking iron.
Nothing ground breaking here. Just repackaged the 790.

Rick, I have been a Taylormade junkie since the Burner, R11, sliders, RSI and finally the P790. Looking into another set and I have been looking at last years Srixon 785. The design on the P770 is very similar to the Srixon. Can you do a comparison. Been following you for a while and I value your opinion.
