    I'm just glad GM offered this engine, even if they never sold any car here in Brazil, officially, with it.
    Big displacement I6's like the Barra, the Atlas-6 and even their older siblings, such as the Ford 300, Chevy 250, etc...are a joy.
    I definitely would like to see one of these 4200's under the hood of an Opala! 🗿👍🏻
    And, of course, I hope more and more the aftermarket segment brings support to this platform.

      Our car culture also revolves heavily around Volkswagens, they're as popular here ad Honda Civics are in the US, and there are certain cars from the 1970's until the 90's, from when our country prohibited imports, that were made for the wealthy, who wanted to stand out from the crowd. They were the 'Fora-de-Série', and many used the Opala's drivetrain.

    Very cool, so happy for you guys. If I may make an off the cuff observation and get right to the point? Ya'll are out of turbine, it was choked from the first pull. Now for all the wordy stuff... Edit: I wrote this only watching to 8:20. Glad to see you agree. 😁
    If I had to wager without looking at a map and having no idea what compressor you all are running I'm guessing you still have a lot of compressor left, but that turbine is flat out done with a capital D. The negative delta P is pretty off the charts IMO. What made my systems different is I always maxed out a smaller compressor (To keep spool reasonable) and free'd up the turbine side to make power by increased BSFC and lower pressure ratio...MUCH happier engine. Cooling the intake charge is much easier than trying to make a constipated engine live long and make power. An easy fix and to see what you're leaving on the table, just go up an A/R size on the turbine housing and the results should open your eyes wide. LOL I have no idea what turbo you're running or I'd be happy to help with more info.
    FWIW I was the head R&D engineer for a major turbo manufacturer you would recognize instantly and went off and started my own turbo kit company and ended up selling it. Now I just play around and have fun. You guys caught my attention because I've always said this platform was a hidden gem. I regret never developing a turbo kit for the Atlas Trailblazer. I'd love to get an SS and swap a built, turbo 4.2 in. LOL

    You’re running 39-psi of boost pressure, so that is roughly a 273% increase in power of the engines natural aspiration. And the difference between your 1004 horsepower which includes that 273% power increase would be about;

      That very well could have happened in stock form, if back in the early 70’s they let the Holden engineers develop an overhead cam variant of the locally designed 202ci i6 that they where using at the time because the commodore from its release in 78 up until 86 used the 202 i6 but it was getting old, outdated and was struggling to meet emissions and fuel efficiency standards and they where also short on money so they opted for the Nissan rb30 up until the new platform vn commodore where they used the Buick 3800 v6, instead of a new head design on their existing engine like Ford did with the crossflow i6. And the reason I say it could have happened is because someone did develop a dual overhead cam 202 head on their own and it was putting impressive numbers out, and that’s pretty much what ford did the with the Barra in the falcon, get the old Intech i6 engine and put a new DOHC head on it.

      @@Gengargamer2_ 3800 being discontinued before the G8 launched, left the G8 only a couple of options for the base model. Could have went with a boosted ecotec 4 cylinder like from the sky or solstice. Pass. They used the 3.6, which was meh at best in the beginning. Better in later years after they fixed some issues. Or the Atlas engines. 4200 I think would have been fantastic as a base model option for the g8. All aluminum, super efficient, vvt, manual option, etc. In my mind would have been the better choice from the factory because before they closed the doors on Pontiac, GM was getting ready to rebrand Pontiac as a luxury sports car company. All rwd. Go directly after bmw and Mercedes and all that. Having an i6 from factory not only would have it compete with the Ford falcon, but the BMWs of the time. Shame it never happened, would have been sick to see a 4.2 i6 g8 with some turbos or a supercharger.

    Congrats, that's an awesome goal to reach !!!
    Definitely time to step away from the budget turbo and step up to a Bullseye or Comp.
    I know you're aware but, for those that aren't,
    A higher quality turbo gives you,
    A more efficient compressor (= more air @ less heat) can make more power @ lower boost.
    A larger, more efficient turbine.
    Iiiiit's tiiiiimmmeeee 😊

    I have a 2004 Isuzu accender with the 4200 I always said not much on the road that will just leave me in the dust it's a sleeper I've taken wel care of her had 62thousand when I got her now knocking on 300thousand and it runs like new still I am truly in love with the truck great gas mileage but has the power . 7 thousand rpm no redline so I assume it's got 10thousand rpm valve springs still sound like it's got 50 thousand miles on the dash. This motor in a s10 standard would be a beautiful site to see thanks for sharing the hard work I love the car!!! Ps I always change oil never missed a change i think that's the key of longevity.

    Hell yeah, congrats! I was thinking the same thing about the exhaust side of the turbo when I was seeing those numbers. I’m not a pro turbo spec guy but I was thinking it might need more turbine and housing. However, then you might need a little spray to light it. 1000 wheel is badass from a 6 cylinder SUV engine. Let’s see how much more these can do before it needs a billet block and head😁

  • @highpsiguy4085
    @highpsiguy4085 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What AR is the turbine housing. With 58psi of back pressure and 40lbs of boost id imagine you should be able to crack 1,000 with 36-37lbs and a bigger back housing.

    You definitely need a better intercooler now! That climb from 85 out to 130 is concerning, I bet if you got a bettor one you would get better results power wise with keeping that intake temp down.

    The 1990 C4 Corvette ZR-1 with the 5.7 liter LT5 was GM’s first DOHC engine. The Northstar didn’t appear until 1995. The 5.7 LT5 was a better engine but like all DOHC engines it still had its problems and was more complex than it needed to be.
