    Thanks as ever to the marvellous Jen from ‪@TodayinJensSewingRoom‬ for creating the #fridaysews community, without her I would still be a lonely girl in a sewing room somewhere!

    Hope you enjoy and see you again next week.
    Take care

      Hello Diane, thanks so much. I am going to get my Grandson to try his costume on tomorrow just in case, keep your fingers crossed for me! That part of Devon is just so beautiful, especially at this time of year. We were just so lucky with the weather. Hope your weekend is going well 😀

    Amazing costume! You are so creative. Your grandson will love it! When I make costumes for my granddaughters I do not worry about perfection. And guess what? They have never complained or criticized a seam. As long as there is enough "poof" in the princess skirt and the costume isn't going to fall apart we are all happy. They wear their princess costumes until they can barely zip them up. I have two of the three Genie costumes finished (no princess dresses this year), only one more costume to go. I love the top you have on in the video, the colors look really nice on you. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures at the end.

      Oh you did make me laugh in the comments about the skirts with the poof in it, sadly I don’t have any granddaughters to make lovely princess or genie dresses for. I would love the chance to make one some day. Thank you for the lovely comment on my top, that was one I made a couple of weeks ago and I’m really pleased with it. As you say my grandson as he is only five, will love the costume however it turns out as long as it’s red and it has a sword ha ha.
      Thanks again for watching and hope the weekend weather is kind to you 🍁🍂

    You are going to love your cover stitch machine, it’s an absolute game changer. If you have the opportunity to purchase a clear foot do so, it makes meeting up with the starting stitches a breeze and gives a very professional finish. Have fun! 🌹

    Hello, Carole, thanks so much for sharing with us! Loved the footage at the end, that’s one of the great things about Friday Sews, that we get to peek into the non-sewing side of life a bit too, I love that! The costume is so amazing! You are definitely doing a much more detailed and difficult costume than any I’ve attempted yet. Hats off to you! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend. Happy Sewing ❤~Tiffany

    Hi Carole, LOVE the striped top you're wearing. Those colors look like they could be your "signature" colors, so flattering. I like your plan for your daughter's performance top, the fabric looks like it will do wonderfully. The Christmas panel is cute. Beautiful travel photos 😍 Have fun with your new machine!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thank you for the comment on my top. The striped one I was wearing was that cheap fabric I bought that I have ended up wearing all the time 🤣. It's funny how that happens sometimes isn't it. I'm excited to make that top for my daughter as although it looks a simple top to make it could look. effective and if it works it will be fun making more and mixing up the fabrics. I'm sure I am the only one that hasn't done a Christmas panel before but I can't wait to have a go 🎅🏼. My machine is all set up now and I tested it last night, a couple of silly errors but I got there in the end 🤣. Thanks as ever for watching 😊

    What beautiful photos, just gorgeous! I love that costume, he’s going to love it, I hope he gets the most candy! You are one busy lady, all those projects, and so professional. You are going to love that cover stitch machine, once you get the hang of it, your sewing will look even more professional! I altered a bridesmaid dress this week and used my cover stitch to do the hems , what a difference. I love the way it takes tee shirts from good to great. I make my little granddaughters tee shirts and they seem to last longer than before I had one.
    I had heard people say that there is a big learning curve for the cover stitch machine, but I did not have a problem learning to use it. You won’t have any problems, enjoy. Take care

      Hi Sue, thanks for telling me about your successes with the cover stitch machine. I plan this weekend to crank out a basic tee shirt to practice on it, I’m sure as you say it will make a much better finish on jersey. My Grandson will love the costume mainly because it is red I’m sure, I’m just getting obsessed with it being just right unnecessarily 🤣. I love the fact you think I’m professional and then I hear you can alter a difficult thing like a bridesmaid dress?! I’m not sure I would have the nerve 😳😂. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the chat 🤗

    You costume project is so interesting to watch! He is a fortunate you man to have a handmade Ninja costume. I look forward to seeing the end result. I have been designing in my mind a top with sheer sleeves, I am sure your top for your daughter to perform in will be spot on. Hi Kathy, I have spent hours on that costume this weekend and I'm sure he won't really notice or care as long as it is red and it comes with a sword! I have really enjoyed doing it but now want to go back to 'normal' things. Next on the list is that top for my daughter but it is so hard pinning her down to get her measurements! 😂I really do like having a pattern book I must admit and have always been envious of those that have, maybe I should ask for another for Christmas😉 Happy Weekend😊

    Hi Carole!
    How exciting that you took the plunge to get a Coverstitch. I’ve been wanting to purchase a Coverstitch myself, but It’s a bit confusing trying to decide which is worth getting. I was thinking of getting the air jet threading cover stitch, however, they are quite expensive. The least expensive one I’ve seen is a $500 manual threading Coverstitch. It would be delightful to see you record an unboxing or at least an introduction of the Coverstitch you purchased- just to get an idea of the brand and operation of your Coverstitch.
    Have a enjoyable run with the Coverstitch!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there, I have literally just set it up and then read your comment! It is the starter Babylock Coverstitch machine, it does have an air threader but not as fancy as the others. I went to Adam from Adam Sews to ask for advice and he was really happy with this one. I am going to make just a basic tee this weekend so I can test it out properly. It's one of those machines that really isn't essential but I think it will make quite a difference. I will talk about it on Friday, I avoided that a bit as I didn't want to be seen as bragging! Thanks for watching x

    That is one cool costume. For most of my life I have been an admirer of the visionary Walt Disney. Because of that, Mickey is my favorite character. I have quite a collection of both Walt and Mickey. I noticed the Mickey blanket on the couch. Who is the Disney fanatic in your household?

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Susan, I can't believe you spotted the Disney Crochet blanket. There is quite a story behind that, I made it for No. 2 Grandson but just as I finished it spilt a cup of tea over it 😥. I tried to wash it but the colours ran so ended up starting from scratch again and made another, I have the original! We all love Disney and have many extremely happy memories of Disney holidays in years gone by, I'm afraid to admit though I don't like the recent changes they have made and the direction they are going in, I am not sure the wonderful Walt would approve! 😕 We have quite a few Mickeys etc around the house and we even named our dog Mickey! Thanks so much for watching and great spot!

    Hi Carole! What's this about people criticizing what all some others in the group get sewn up during the week? Envy in the sewing room?? Not everyone has the same amount of free time to work at what they love -- like sewing. I'm doing good if I make it back to my sewing nook even maybe twice during the week. I don't have a job to go out to but I'm kept busy at home with other things. William has certain care needs; so does Ginger; and then I have my own needs, too. This all comes first before I can make it to my sewing nook. I know that I have commented on how much sewing a lot of you get done in a week's time but I'm not meaning it to be a criticism; I love hearing what all you guys do and it keeps me inspired. You all have such sewing knowledge and skill and talent and, yes, ENERGY!! Oh my gosh! I am really amazed that you got your red top finished in such a short time! I would've felt the pressure for sure and made a mistake. Fortunately, you had made up that pattern before but still... I'm sure that the concert was enjoyed by all! Your daughter's top will be very nice and the shiny spots on the sleeves should pick up the stage lights nicely. You know, Carolyn, you might just be on the threshold of a new little business venture -- costumes. You are doing such a wonderful job on the Ninja costume. You've still got over a week to finish it up but I would definitely be feeling the pressure to finish if it were me. Ok, I'll feel a little pressure for you! Now let's get cracking!! LOLOLOL...
    What beautiful views at the end of your video!! I couldn't have managed all the walking you did but I would've loved the views.
    Have a great week!

      @socarole66  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Deb, my initial comment was about a TH-cam video that someone put up and Jen and the others were talking about it. It was criticising lots of sewing bloggers about them bragging about the amount they produce etc. Also just churning stuff out for the sake of it causing fast fashion. I wanted people to know that isn’t me, I sew what I need to sew and just love the fact I can share it with people now. I have very little time but I sew every evening as I just don’t like TV anymore and my hubby just watches rubbish 🤣. The red top was really speedy sewing I tell you, nasty cheap fabric but it did the job and looked good with black thank goodness. We really love that part of the South Coast and it’s a lovely classical English hotel with all the trimmings ☕️🫖. Sidmouth is just an unspoilt non tacky coastal town, there are very few about these days! I have spent hours on that costume today but mainly because I am overthinking it and trying to get it just right, the silly thing is all he cares about is that it is red 🤣. It’s looking good now so I can’t wait to surprise him with it. My daughter then said can you make another for the little one…no.. was my answer 🤣. Maybe next year! Lovely to chat to you and don’t worry I haven’t been offended by anyone other than the person making that video. She did make some good points but mainly she did it to get attention 🙄. Have a super weekend 😘🤗

      @DebsWay ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you loud and clear about watching TV these days. William likes for me to be in the family room with him while he watches TV. And he watches a lot of TV and a lot of shows/movies that I just don't care to watch. But he likes having me with him anyway. What's a person to do?
      By the way, I meant to ask earlier -- is the coverstitch machine you mentioned the same as our sergers?

    • @sew4bonnie
      @sew4bonnie ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I wish people would just appreciate what others are doing. I don't get to sew alot but I love seeing what others make be it 1 thing or 10 things. Its all about what we love 💖 sewing and creating for whatever the reason. Sharing isn't bragging its inspirational and believe me when someone mentions someone sure sews a lot it can hurt. I've had it happen to me to the point I quit sewing. We never want to hurt our sewing friends, this isn't a competition.
      So glad you got a coverstitch, I have one on my wish list 😄 keep up the great work!

    I wonder if a Chinese business or restaurant logo or menu might not have a dragon emblem you could trace or photocopy as a pattern for the costume? If you did stitch in the ditch quilting, it should go quickly enough. Use a walking foot! 😉

      @socarole66  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Norma, I did in fact manage to copy the dragon onto some paper then after spending 3 hours embroidering the top bit of the dragon I decided to change tack and copy the pattern on the actual Lego figure, hard to explain but I will show on Friday. I estimated it would take me another 7 hours to finish it so went with a quicker option ha ha. I am pleased with the result though. Thanks so much for the brilliant idea though 😊 Enjoy your weekend

    Hello Carole
    The costume is looking great
    What about a cricket make dragon
    Does anyone you know have one?
    If not I would trace out a dragon on the felt and use a permanent marker and draw on the dragon details
    Just cutout the outside outline and sew it on around the edges
    I think rather than make several small pieces that need to be sewn on does that make sense
    I am sure that you will do a wonderful job and children are easily pleased it definitely does need to be perfect
    The McCall's pattern for the poncho is a good one
    I made one which my daughter snitched so I have just made a second one
    Just wanted to let you know that it is a very oversized poncho so you may want to down size
    Looking forward to seeing however it all works out
    Happy sewing

      Hi Joanne, thanks for the ideas on the dragon, I do have a friend with a cricut but sadly she is on holiday for two weeks! I’ve made a start anyway and have a plan to make it not as onerous. As you say, he is only 5 so he will be happy with anything 🤣. Thanks so much for the info on the poncho, I will need to make the smallest size then I think. Still waiting for the pattern! Stealing something I make sounds like my daughter as well, glad you had the chance and time to make another. Thanks again for all the ideas and have a nice weekend 😊
