    A Genious, a fabulous artist.
Lang-Lang, Bunin, and most of the famous Speedy- Gonzales pianists of the 21th Century play extremely fast.
Rubinstein could play at an intense high speed. Neverthless, every single note was individualised , Sharp and Clear..
His performance of the Ritual of Fire, in 1947, at Carnagie-Hall, his hands appear to be blurred, -- such is the flow of his movements.
And yet, one can "see" and hear every single note flying through the air, like a flok of birds.

I really enjoy all your Rubinstein videos, not only it's colorized but also the sound is better than original video( at least I believe it's more close to what Rubinstein's sound), thank you!

Rubinstein never returned to Germany, after the atrocities and savageries commited by the Germans DURING WORLD WAR ONE in Poland and Belgium (the Rape of Belgium).
Not even W. W. 2, with a Democratic Government in Germany, Rubinstein accepted the invitation to play in that country.
Adding insult to injury, the Nazis during W.W. 2 commited even worse crimes than in the War 1914/1918.
Was he too radical in his position?
You will be the Judge of his firm stance!

How are they not standing at the end? Did they just not do that in that part of the world? In any case, a joy to see this filmed recital of the master. Wish there were many more.

I feel like standing ovations have lost their importance because they happen all the time now, as if people want *to have been* at a concert that was worth standing up for, so everybody stands up for everything nowadays

This was not the entire recital but only the first part. The second part, which included works by Chopin and Debussy, either wasn't recorded or the recording no longer exists.

@@therealtruetwelfth798 Usually a standing ovation only takes place at the end and during the Encores.

Just over 20 years had elapsed since half the Polish population would have cooperated with the nazis to murder Rubinstein had they been able to get their hands on him like they did on 6 million of Rubnstein's coreligionists, and here he is being admired, celebrated as the apotheosis of the pianist's art.No doubts these thoughts were running through Rubinstein's mind as he delivered these sublime renditions of Schubert's saddest piano lament, a manifesto of sadness yet defiance in the face of tragedy; and an even more compelling Caranaval, which so fittingly culminates in a triumphant march of the "Davidsbundler" (followers pf King David, Hebrew general and musician and Psalmist par excellence ) triumphing over the philistines. The symbolism could nto be more direct and powerful.
