I hadnt quite finished Nik's The Works when I saw this video but then Tony talked it up so I listened to the second half finally and OH MY GOD Walkabout the closer is by far his best song what a masterpiece
I always loved Nik Kershaw's voice on "Red day on blue street" but my favourite track is still "Another murder of the day" with Fish on vocals. Jayney Klimek has a great voice too!
I've loved Tony's catalog of work since I first heard Genesis as a teenager. I daren't say 'great minds think alike', but when he mentions that he likes Nik's stuff, especially the Works-album, I'm screaming "Me too!" at my computer monitor. Cowboys and Indians *is* an amazing tune. And that those two ended up working together was fantastic.
Still was one of the only albums that i pushed back for almost a year to review it, i never understood why i couldn't get into it, i always felt that i wasn't prepared to listen to it. When it finally came the time, i made some mistakes and sat around it, thinking that i was doing something wrong, like i wasn't looking more into it, so i heard it again and it clicked, and i still can't understand why that album didn't become a hit, that and Bankstatement wich i think is amazing. Still Still takes me by surprise.
Thank you Tony Banks Giving us an intimate view for your musicianship. Please remaster on DVD-Audio or multi-channel 5.1 surround. Thank you to Nick D for the amazing sounding remasters
Tony you're the best! Long time fan, have all T.B. & Genesis albums & when I saw this new box set 'Vaults' had to order it, on its way now through mail! Also have 'A Chord To Far' box set which excellent. Love one more rock album or Genesis reunion/album...one can hope & dream
I think i'm one of the few out here hoping for just one more classical record from him. Would suppose it's the most realistic of the options, but that's not exactly why... A lot of years passed between The Wicked Lady and Seven. It seems that with each of Tony's classical endeavors he learned how to work with the orchestrator more and more, so that by Five his original ideas weren't being *arranged* by the orchestrator quite so much. (This becomes clear when hearing how fleshed out the homemade demos from Five are that appear on the Chord Too Far boxset. I think he might've done those primarily with just a Korg OASYS but it's striking to me how similar they already are to the more proper, finished recordings.) I've listened to classical music both passively and actively since i was a boy, but lately i've tried to be more active in the focusing of my attention to the particular instruments being used. So from the time of Seven to the more-recent Five i have this sense of growing as a listener while Tony was simultaneously learning how to best get his ideas through to the performing orchestra. (You may already know how with Five most everything was done to a click, and certain instruments like the piano or harp parts were tracked separately.) Being able to sit & play isolated parts from the printed score to "Prelude to a Million Years" has taken it to a new level for me; it's rare when i get my hands on a proper, full score of something performed by an orchestra.
"Still" was the one of the first albums I bought - always liked singing along back then as a teenager- not good but passionate. I guess, that's why the cover is missing, as it contained the lyrics 😅

Thanks again for these glimpses into your solo work. Also shout out to Nick Davis for the great remasters.

I Wanna Change the Score is brilliant!
Thanks for this - and now millions of us will spend the rest of our days over-thinking how to pronounce 'lure' haha
Tony`s "Fugitive" was pretty much the prototype for NK music.

I Wanna Change the Score should have been a massive hit.

1:32 “John Robinson was also great”

But at least Robinson was available even though he wasn’t your first choice 🤕
