A lot of people perceive Nik as an 80s heartthrob synth pop man but in reality he was that but also arguably and by admission of many big artists and producers he is one of the best songwriters this county has ever produced. Nik's musical conception is extraordinary! His music is so well executed, the use of keyboards is astonishing. Maybe it would be great to ask him once to tell more about his personal contribution to all those splendid synth lines we all desperately try to match. As educated musician, I really admire his harmonic schemes throughout his entire artistic output.
As to creativity in times of technology, in my opinion everything is up to human creativity, fascinating fusion of influences the artist is conscious of or not, including the individual taste and relying on gear in terms of making the ideas coming through in the most appropriate manner, but avoiding trendy senseless details (such as autotune, for instance) that shapes the final product in kitchy soundset lacking at the same time most of original music content, original development of musical compounds and individual production colour.
The interviewee couldn’t have been nicer, more genial, made artist welcome, thanked, praised etc, but Mr Kershaw turns in a stellar SOUR performance. Irritable, agitated and plain ungrateful for the platform. That’s a riddle for sure!
