    Loving your videos, it's always good to see someone else's workflow. We all have our own but nothing is perfect so we have the opportunity to sit back and see what we maybe could change /do better. Or carry on as we are.

    Great timing with this. I’ve been purely using an iPad for the last few years but I’ve just ordered an MacBook Pro. Currently all my photos are in the cloud (nothing locally) and I wanted to have a copy locally and it looks like you answered that one!

      Can you move things around directly on your SSD or will it confuse lightroom?
      Also, do you know if classic also syncs with the iPhone app, Adobe cloud and the like?
      Cheers!

    Keeping your entire library on an external hard drive at home as well as having it on 2 different cloud based platforms is a great idea. It’ll take an act of god for something to happen to all three separate locations at the same time for you to lose your work. Your very organized.

    Very interesting video. I've been a LR Classic user since the beginning and never enjoyed the Cloud version or knew anyone that uses it exclusively. So this was great to see a workflow using it. Also never heard of Unfold. I'll have to check it out.

    You should consider getting a NAS drive! Always great to back up to a hard drive that's essentially connected to your router... No more ongoing costs and concerns about storage space on all devices!

      @snapsbyfox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but in a few months I will be travelling full time so this for now won't work. But I agree, that would be a good solution for many things and not just photos

      @@snapsbyfox good point mate. I got a terramaster one , all dvds have now been digitised and can be streamed via Plex. Not to mention the ability to just offload all photos onto them. Might be worth a look once you get back, sure you'll have an absolute shit tonne of photos from travelling so it sounds like it could be an option!

    Great timing for this video! I’ve used an iPad primarily for photo editing and while it’s great, it’s hard to manage files. I’ve never been much of a fan of laptops but the MacBook may be that 1 device I’ve been seeking

    • @snapsbyfox
      @snapsbyfox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah these MacBooks are good. I still think an iPad has a place somewhere but only if you can afford both and are happy with multiple devices

  • @rlysakowski
    @rlysakowski 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video. I like the simplicity of your approach. One major thing that stops me from using this version of Lightroom is lack of options to rename photos on import, like adding date stamp. I’ve noticed that your files have the original names. Sooner or later your filenames will start duplicate. How do you approach this challenge?

    • @snapsbyfox
      @snapsbyfox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm there already mate.... tbh I don't have an answer to it. I personally don't filter / sort by file name but by the date it was taken. However when I used Capture One explosively I did rename on import. I wish it would come over here too but at least for now I just pretend its not an issue and ignore it lol

    Thinking about upgrading to the 14 MacBook Pro. Have you tried Sidecar or Astropad as alternatives to the Wacom?

  • @CookedLight
    @CookedLight 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting vlog, I just ordered an M1 MacBook Air to better manage my photo workflow, been using iPad Pro for years but my M1 12.9 only has 128gb and keeps filling up. You have confirmed my idea that using external drives will work. Do you back up your catalogue to those drives? If you did, I think you would be able to skip the step with folder structures, you could just restore and your catalogue would know where the photos are. I would get your WD disk copied to a desktop pro spec external drive or a NAS for long-term storage.

    If you're watching this and wondering if it is still up to date, 16GB of RAM isn't enough if you want longevity. The memory is shared between the CPU and GPU, so you're not really getting 16GB. Go for more RAM.
    Every reviewer almost always says that X amount of RAM is enough for this and that, but that's only true for today, and since reviewers upgrade every other year, unlike most normies, they almost never take longevity into consideration.
    This is not a critic of this video, this video is about photography not computers, I'm just making a comment.

    im a bit late but do you think the 14" would be perfect for video editing too? Im currently looking for a laptop to get that done plus for my university and since I love to travel I want a kinda strong one for the next few years. I'm thinking about to get the 32gb ram version. What I saw from other laptops they are either worse build quality or performance and it seems like the mb pro is perfect but at the same time almost 3k € are not that cheap either haha :D

    Hi Roman, thank you for providing these awesome videos. As I am about to decide, weather I buy the 14 Mac Book Pro or the Ipad Pro 12,9 M1, I am waiting patient for your video where you want to state if you go only for one device and which one it would be. Could you tell me when you are planning to publish that video so that I can wait with my purchase? Or if it still takes some time to publish, could you give me a sneakpeak of your decision? :) best regards from germany

    I found this super helpful, thank you! I'm a bit confused about one bit in the BACKUP section - about how you store (and organize) the original files on your local HD using the same folder organization in Lightroom. Is this something you do manually, or does LR have an option for that?

    Thanks for the video. Discovered your channel recently 👍 Can I ask why you decided to move from the iPad to back to a MBP. I use a 12.9 iPad Pro and currently have the dilemma of weather to switch back or not so interested in your opinion please? I find the iPad screen to small and iOS versions of Lr & Photoshop don’t quite have all the tools I need.

    My workflow is similar, however I skip a few steps that makes it quicker and less confusing:
    - On import I automatically apply a preset that is my 'default look". Saves time when doing the second cull.
    - I only "pick" the photos I like, rather than "reject" the majority. Saves time on swipes and interactions with LR (UI is terrible btw).
    - By now, after only the first quick cull I only have photos I like with my preset applied.
    - Polish edits, quick exposure tweaks, and it's done.
    Problem comes when syncing this selection to Apple Photos. As there is no way to overwrite your previously exported files. You end up with duplicates, which is a pain to manage.
    Nothing beats Apple Photos for 'presenting' your photos. 'Memories' is a killer feature where Adobe is missing out big time.Overall experience of finding and browsing your old photos is miles better in Apple Photos than what any LR has to offer.

      I appreciate the comment and i understand a large portion of the audience knows all this and is only interested in photography / travel. However I also need to make videos which will rank on search and attract a wider audience. Equally gear related videos and how to guides always do better closer to the festive season and have a wider reach.
      The outdoor photography travel videos will come back thick and fast, but I equally need to position this channel strategically.
