- Hi everyone, in this video is an older Dell laptop that was dropped badly, I mean after spilling some soda, purposely dropped. Fortunately, the fix was easy and I have done some small upgrades that will extend the life of this machine for a while.

How people treat thier stuff like that , i have a laptop that is like 14 years old and is in very good condition if we do not talk about the keyboard that needs replacing

@@beast_boy_Khannaremove the hard drive from your laptop put it inside another desktop that someone in your family has then formatt it then you will download windows 10 on it that's easy
@@beast_boy_Khannaman thats super bad hope none of ur info have been stolen, its hard to make older laptops or pcs to get internet or try to update them
@@beast_boy_Khanna reinstall the os and it should be up and running. Also if it's slow you can try to upgrade to an ssd.

Nice restoration, only things I'd have done differently is added a second 2.5in disk for data and replaced the damaged bezel with a new one.
Btw... the second slot next to the Wi-Fi slot can take either mSATA SSD or WWAN (3G/4G card). Given that most WWAN cards are either 3G (obsolete) or basic 4G cards (single channel only), it is probably wiser to go with the mSATA SSD option. You can always use Wi-Fi Tethering if needed, anyways!
Funny that you talk about the things we had in 2012 : I actually still use to this day my Core i7 3770K on its Asus Maximus V Extreme and 32 BG of DDR3 1866 MHz 😁.
I use it with an RTX 3060 12GB and I still get 75 fps on Cyberpunk 2077 @ 1080p nightmare settings + RTX ultra. This thing is a beast. I'm moving to another CPU next month (possibly a 7900X) but this CPU will forever stay close to me 🥰

My old Dell laptop from 2013 had the same issue with the rubber. I searched online for a solution but never found one, so I just used a plastic knife and removed all the sticky rubber. The laptop feels much better now!
Oh, and as a suggestion, you should start installing Linux on those old laptops you restore... I think the experience will be better! It's not difficult to use nowadays. Windows 10 uses too many resources of these old laptops and using a lightweight Linux distro will probably make the laptop faster and more reliable. Many games are also available and work just fine, thanks to Valve and the Steam Deck :)

Amazing restoration
I'm impressed with the level of care you handle these old laptops! Be careful with static electricity: The felt mat, the vacuum cleaner brush and micro fibre cloths can easily charge up statically and destroy some chips on the motherboard (this once happened to my old laptop).

That's a nice resurrection! 2012 was a special year, in part because we got USB3. My main computer is a Z77 with a Xeon which is still a powerful beast to me because I'm not a gamer and for everything I do there has been no need to upgrade. It's been pretty good value as a result! 😉

From one side it was, but I have seen worse :D even once I got PC ( for data backup ) soccer team lost and the guy threw his PC from the 5th or 6th floor :D

I have a Dell laptop very similar to this! I have the Dell inspiron 5720 which is basically the same laptop except its 17 inch instead of 13 inch... mine is the same color too! I got mine at a thrift store for 40$
This laptop is identical to one of my old friend and former enemy named NewSpiderBoy's laptop. But it's an Dell Inspiron 15r and was running Windows 8. But, He's been inactive since Spring of 2014 and He's from Turkey.

I have an idea you should buy a old good looking mini laptop like Samsung 305u1a then put the Ryzen 3 small motherboard from another laptop then buy 40pin to 30pin display converter and try to connect the Samsung keyboard and touch pad to the new motherboard and many things it would be an amazing powerful mini laptop and good looking

mSata drives use SATA2, so it's not faster than 2,5" SSD (if its SATA3) :(
Use a toothpick to clean the CPU capacitors. You may knock something if you use a large tool.

I have one of these kicking around. It needs a battery and it's missing the memory cover on the bottom, but it does seem to work. Maybe I should fix it up?

The trackpad is fine, that just a plastic and the part of the palmrest, the trackpad sensors are sticked from below

yes I hate that rubber is just trash after a long time the laptop gets old but it still working great but that rubber becomes to be nasty and sticks to everything like pet hair just try to remove it take work wish that never put on it I got 14x R1 Alienware notebook it gots it all over the palm rest

Unfortunately, Windows 7/8/8.1 keys can no longer be used to activate Windows 10. Very Frustrating. This includes bios embedded keys from OEM's unless it's specifically licensed for 10.

Hey Andrew I have a Dell Inspiron n4050 in a bad condition the problem is when I plug in the laptop charger it turns on automatically and the pwr and hdd lights are blinking and it sounding like something is shorting inside. What is the problem?

is xeon x5660 3.2ghz good for 768p with 16gb ram gtx 1060 6gb
It's not a very fast CPU, but if it's what you've got to work with I see no reason why you couldn't play any games on it. Might even be able to do 1080p, just keep the graphics settings reasonable.

I'd go for the 4670k just because the platform itself is newer if you're deciding between the two. If you already own the x5660 then just stick with that though.
I can't give a direct answer on how well it'll run games, but I'd assume the overwhelming majority will be playable at that resolution.

It's not bad bro, this is something like i7 3770. But if you wanna go with 1060 6gb then I will recommend something newer. Better option is i7 7700K, 7th gen CPU but still great. Or cheaper options like i7 4th gen but look for a K CPU or AMD Ryzen 2nd gen

you never review the batteries of the laptops you restore! Do the batteries actually functional/backup? Plz answer & make a video about it.
The batteries are mostly not in good condition to these older machines, rarely when some battery is good
