@@bauer06ak51 We compare the easiness of shifting on truck with high mileage ( usually, old ) to truck with low mileage ( usually new) , both tracks can be the same brand , same model , important is the mileage on them . If you are newbie , most probably, you will be able to shift gears in the old truck ( using the cluthcless way ) and will grind them on the new one . That is why previous commentator said that on the old truck gears in the gearbox are loose :) So , he is knowing what he is speaking about :)

When the old lad at the shop I worked was "teaching" me how to drive the 69' GMC General they had for a dump truck in the quarry, his advice was to slam my hand in the door a couple time till I was good and mad then to beat the truck like it owed me money. I got good at floating gears real quickly.

Back in 77and 78 I drove a 70 Dodge 900 with a 238 coupled to a 13 speed and shifted it just as fast. And like in this video you never took your hand off the shifter until you got out on the interstate where you could relax and light up a smoke and cruise a bit until the next hill then back to the shifter it went

Get a little mad at it and be on the gas a lot and it drove like a champ. This video makes me think he wasn't totally full of it! Nice driving!

Old 238 with a 10speed road ranger. You can shift as fast as your hand can move than slap the juice to it back in the day every second counted The only thing shifted slow like today trucks was 5speed mack

I've been driving since early 2009 and I would love an opportunity to toy with a 2 stroke. When i retire, I keep toying with the idea of building an old 2 smoke and using it for my toy hauler instead of my f350. Don't need it...but, by God, I want it.
My pops drove for Sears and he said thats how they shifted in the old 9500 when you're bobtailing to the warehouse to get your trailer. Even skipping a few gears too. Lol

I miss driving old Jimmy's, soo fun to thrash as that's how they like to run anyway. The rpms go up and down so quickly it makes it easy to change gears quickly. They're also great for service and drilling rigs with the quick throttle response for hydraulics, and getting the blocks moving. 4 stroke single line rigs sucked to work on after 2 stroke double fast line rigs, always on the throttle keeping rpms up to try and get the thing to respond in a productive amount of time.
For what little truck driving I did at the time I like the Detroits the smaller the better 671 seems about right or a653? 471 would be in something industrial or maybe twins in a Greyhound bus but I do like shifting them the more gears the better and I don't really want the bigger engine I like running the little ones but there's something about a truck with all the gauges and all the gears with that Detroit kind of fun to go through the gears happy driving

They actuality don't rev much higher than a regular 4-stroke engine. They just sound like that because they fire twice as fast.
