In the early 2000s, I was a complete sinophile. I went all in, taking Mandarin lessons, reading tons of books and researching the culture, the history, preparing a move there. This infatuation lasted for 3-4 years. I don’t think it was anything specific but I was gradually turned off entirely with China. Went there on vacay and although there were some cool aspects, I didn’t enjoy interacting with people there. Despite very lucrative teaching opportunities, I just couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger. Ended up teaching in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. To this day, I still feel I dodged a bullet. Now, even the prospect of a layover in China is displeasing to me.
Do you speak Chinese still? Or is it very rusty by now? Did it ever come in handy in southeast Asia?
And did you ever consider going to Taiwan instead?

I actually found myself in a similar situation about 10 years ago, working as a manager of a pub in Sydney, located in a suburb with a lot of Asian immigrants & students. One of my Asian staff introduced me to a Chinese lady in her mid-30's who was out here on a student visa "to learn English" (although she literally couldn't speak two words of English), who was looking to hire me to help fix and sell her car. Being a car guy myself I was glad to go around to her place to check out the car & give her some advice; she thanked me and invited me out to dinner (with my staff member tagging along as a translator). So the lady was a solid 5, possible a 6 and was very pleasant, however there was an air of desperation about her and she just seemed too keen; my translator told me up-front that she found me very attractive and wanted me to go back to her place to "get to know each other better".
Long story short, I politely declined as there just was something amiss. Anyway, found out later that she was one of these "leftover women" who had forgone marriage whilst young to look after her elderly parents & also to pursue a career and had then found herself unable to find a Chinese husband because she was too old (and not a 9 or 10, which evidently would have helped). She had thus come out to Australia on a student visa on the advice of a friend in order to find a husband, however not to gain residency here on a marriage visa (as I had suspected was her motive) but to bring him back home to China to live with her.

I can confirm this is not just a Chinese cultural thing. I used to do home IT/AV work as a side gig in LA, in my early 20's, 2001-2004. I met several single women in their 30-40 who had their seduction techniques. Pics from their younger years is 100% a universal technique. And god bless them!

Your experience with the English teaching and women sounds like mine here in Japan. I taught for the first few years here and I had all kinds of women throwing themselves at me - showing up at my apartment and would cook and clean and wash and make my apartment very nice, then want me to bang them. I am not stupid. It's obvious it's a trap, so I never allowed myself to do that. I would put a stop to that real fast because you'll find out you're being told you're the father (and most likely you're not) and all kinds of trouble will ensue. I picked out my wife in a very different way and got a really solid, good Japanese woman as my life partner (of 34 years).
Leftovers at 30 is a disaster. Meet a guy, date, plan wedding. Now your 32, 33 maybe 35. At 35 maybe she handles pregnancy well, maybe not. But she to old. Older women have more complications.
And if she spent 30 years perusing a career or herself she is to old to change habits and build a family first. Herself and career will almost always come first. Nor will she use her resources for family.

If only you knew how deep this goes! In the past, I've had the pleasure of accompanying groups of such women who regularly go out to spend evenings with young men who are paid for their time and company. Let's just say that it was a very eye-opening and educational experience.

She might have just been looking to add you to her "collection." In my experience, these women have often already given up on the notion of marriage, and yet they are still in need of emotional validation and comfort.
Of course, as you indicated, this does not mean that they never find marriage partners, and it seems that when they do find them they are often from foreign cultures. I could go on about why this might be, but I'll end this here.

One of the most strategic ways to ask someone's age from China is to simply ask their Chinese zodiac sign. Knowing this, you can pretty accurately deduce their age (since there are 12). You don't have to ask their age or birthday outright and it makes for an ice-breaking point of conversation.

had a director at a company I worked for put his hands on my shoulders as I was fixing his computer issues. He started massaging my shoulders. I got through the service call and left his office. So, while i was in a relationship with a female co-worker for a couple years, I was hit on by a female director, lead worker, supervisor, and male, exec director, lead worker, and supervisor. at another job I was also sent cat pictures from a coworker who when I neglected to respond then appologized and said the picture was for her estranged husband.

I personally find a divorced woman is better to marry than a naive first timer. The two need to be on the same page and really understand each other and not just live in an idealistic bubble. Divorce has a way of bringing your feet back to the ground.

Divorced women aren’t leftover, they’re used. While the divorce may not have been their fault, it could also mean she has bad judgement and was unwilling to do what was needed to keep the marriage together.

Very similar story, but this was a previously married (divorced) woman that already had a kid that was left back in Bejing. I would call her the Raquel Welch of China because she was beautiful but even as I was teaching her English it was obvious that she was never going to pick it up at her age, 37. She was just biding her time to find a single American man that could get her a better life now that she was divorced in China and leaving a14 year old daughter behind. Very weird and desperate. Won't go into any other details, another family member with a Chinese wife and who was an English teacher set us up. I was single so it wasn't against my morals but it just was never going to work out. Sad, strange, weird, uncomfortable. I hope she found what she needed.

I got shit for not marrying earlier and when I did get married it was still a problem because my husband isn't Indian. I actually had a relationship with a Chinese girl in America who was in that type of situation.
She lived in a huge house and drove a new Range Rover.
Her husband only saw her once or twice a year. But she was so lonely and sad. I didn't really know she was married when I first got involved with her, but later on when I found out it caused problems and the relationship ended in an ugly way.
I still wonder what happened to her after all these years. We had some good times though and we did care about each other.

I had worked in a fertility center where foreign women came to the states with the sole purpose of getting pregnant …… There were many Asian women in these centers looking to get impregnated through various different methods …. A large majority were Chinese women wanting to be pregnant with white American sperm …. For better looking babies according to the women . Blue eyed and blond hair males were the highest in demand . Most Asian women were there for the same reason . Then went back to their countries . There where strict guidelines and interviewing processes to make sure that they where able to financially support a child and had a home to raise them in . There has been a massive increase of Asian and other foreign women since the pandemic had ended . The biggest increase have been from Chinese women . I’m wondering if the increase had to do with so many people dying from the pandemic in these countries or a shortage of good men ?
Anyway , be aware of foreign women that are desperate to get pregnant …. Tricking men into unwanted situations . I know two men that are having issues with foreign women that they thought where in love with them …. Got their girls pregnant ….. ending up in court to make the men pay child support ….. I think the situation is much more subtle than you're accounting for. Every lasting culture organizes around the family across generations. The cultures that fail to promote the importance of children are long gone. Looking at only one element -- the role of unmarried women -- is to miss to larger picture of a continuing, functioning and healthy society. Focusing on men -- with their countless dead in battlefields across the globe -- is also an error. Everything has to be taken together to be understood as an human enterprise meant to survive for one more generation.
