I mean if i would be a 30 y old guy with a house ill probably buy some girls out of slavery if it is not crazy expensive.
Having a popular, acceptable illegal activity is a wonderful leash around the necks of your citizens. Easy way to slander and lock someone away without much public pushback.
@Daniel Mendozkevich He's also trying to portray this as some type of mass coercion; its absolute rubbish. Most prostitutes I see in China are in their 20s-30s and there out of their own choice; I explicitly asked them about that, not teenage girls forced into the industry by their family. While the later does exist, they in no ways represent the industry as a whole and has nothing to do with the CCP anymore than illegal prostitution or drug activities are the result of government policies anywhere on the planet. The culprits are their scum of a parent who are greedy for money and will do anything to get that.
Your comment reminds me of a weibo (basically the Chinese Twitter) fight I read. The fight was between a celebrity who named Luo Yong-hao and some kind of patriotic guy. The dude wrote: you don’t deserve to be a Chinese citizen. Then Luo reply: Fine, then I wish you will still be a Chinese in your next life. (Most Chinese believe in reincarnation stuff)

His channel was very informative and he never mentioned anything about 'these poor Chinese people that I care so much about'. Only after his channel got more click bait he switched to this style of content. It's just disingenuous how he acts now.
That young girl's story is heartbreaking. To think there are millions more stories like hers in China is both devastating and enraging. It is truly a fallen world.
**the world has fallen** what a ridiculous idea, unless you believe we humans were in Eden at some point there's been no time in history were things were *good*.
I am a Chinese and lived in Shenzhen more than for 20 years, I heard many similar stories as you described it. Now I am living in Sydney but I was watching your video I felt so sorry and sadness for these kind of girls who are living like this lifestyle . You showed a real dark side of China to your fans.
He's completely exaggerating. Hookers are common in China, but the vast majority of them do it cause its easy money. Those who are forced by their families are only a small handful. I know this as a regular visitor of sex workers in China, even dating a few of them.
@@markemailonly3114 Uh huh. Are most of them just college girls working their way through college? That's what strippers say, too. Before they negotiate with you..
@@markemailonly3114I was thinking the same thing… When he mentioned people would travel from Hong Kong, where I used to live, I was like “why?”… Hong Kong has similar places, but if you are decent looking, and under 45, just hit the Lan Kwai Fong area and it is easy to hook up with a normal woman in her late 20s early 30s for just a few drinks and cab fare!
Actually, if you complain to the hotel management and threaten to call the cops about the hooker cards, the hotel will usually apologise and offer you a discount. I have tried and it worked!
I just recently rediscovered your channel. What he says is pretty much true. I was born in china and I remember when a woman came up to my dad and tried to take him away when my mom was right next to him.
Its true china has a lot of hookers, but its absolute BS that most of them are forced. None of the prostitutes I spoke with in China were forced. They are doing it cause its easy money.
@SWGamer Gaming Whats your point? Are you suggesting they lied to me? Why do you think they haven't lied to Winston? I actually dated 4 prostitutes from China; they are NOT forced lol. In fact one of them is telling me the CCP recent crackdown on prostitution is affecting her business, that's her living. I know a friend of mine who dated a hooker and she was send by her family to work at a bar. But that's like maybe less than 1/30 cases, and even she wasn't really "forced," the chick was sent to work at a bar, and decided to sell herself after getting there. No one forced her to do that.
@@markemailonly3114 You really sound like a john trying to exonerate themselves from moral quandaries related to their activities. SWGamer Gaming says people lie, especially those who's job is faking interest in hundreds of men. @@mysticonthehill You speak a lot for someone who has no idea what I have done; here is a suggestion, how about asking? Now read carefully. Yes, I dated them, in the sense that I made them either my girlfriend or fuck buddies without paying, or turning them into that after seeing them. I know far more about their background than Winston; speaking of which, hookers might have also lied to him to gain sympathy, which is also a common tactic. As or moral quandaries, I'm not going to go into the details of other issues; the issue at hand is whether these hookers are forced, and they are absolutely not (not including the rare cases of some teenage girl forced by their family to go work, which is a family issue, not the issue of the industry). It's an simply an easy money-making job
Most of the married women also know that their husband has a mistress, but accept it as long as he gives her money. Sad and depressing state of affairs.
Same as in Japan, I watched an AsianBoss video, you can look it up, they interviewed women, what they think about their boyfriend/husband/partner cheating or paying for sex, they said "As long as he doesn't develop emotions for that woman I can forgive him", so yeah, it's not only in China.
Thank you for caring about the plight of women. It’s really disheartening how rare it seems to be to find men who view these practices with the abject horror and sympathy that they so definitively warrant. Three girls and women are being coerced at best and literally raped constantly at worst. Anyone who would take advantage of the desperation of these impoverished women is scum. I was a student in China 1990 -1992, at an Overseas Chinese university. One of the Chinese students there was funding her study and living costs by doing prostitution work with visiting Taiwanese businessmen. It was generally known on campus, but she wasn't ostracized or penalised in anyway. It just wasn't talked about openly.
A survey found that prostitutes were considered more trustworthy than government officials. Overall prostitutes ranked third on the list of professions behind farmers and religious workers.
My dad visited China back in the 2010s, and my disgusting cousin took him to Shenzhen for some “bro time” at a karaoke. Then the girls come in and the men started to take their pick and off they go with the women. Now my dad was the old one who didn’t wanna participate with the “sauna activities” mainly because he left China right before all these disgusting things happen over there and he lived in HK and then later immigrated. He was just visiting and to him he prefers one of those old fashioned pure girls and those girls were not for him. He wanted to just pay for the girl and tell her to go home after she begged and said I need to feed my family. Then my disgusting cousin walked in and said what’s wrong and he said he’s not interested and told him he’s gonna pay the girl her taxi so she could go home safely. Then my cousin dragged the girl outside and started to slap her around. He’s not her pimp, he bought the place and the girls for some “bro time”. He’s like how could you let him down like this, go back in and make him happy! My dad got really scared and he waited my cousin to go in with a girl then quietly took her outside the karaoke bar and paid her extra to go home. That was my image of what my cousin is and it rocked me after I heard this from dad years later😢.
yeah that happens often lol. not long ago there was a chinese professor got arrested for criticizing ccp in the pandemic, all his family said he was in beijing the whole time but the police insists he was in hunan province and was "playing with prostitutes" lol
CCP doesn't like officers too clean to be controlled by them. To get in the "club", you have to networking with others. We all know what politicians like: luxury life, sex, etc. You have to join them, do these illegal activities along with them. Later if you pick the wrong side in political event, they can get these evidence out and send you to jail "lawfully".
Sex can be used by any government as black mail because it's a grey area of the law. Think about what that whole Epstein thing was about. Definite CIA or Mossad involvement there. Likely others too if you think about it. Makes me wonder who Harvey Weinstein actually pissed off.
I am an overseas Chinese... watching this is depressing. The livelihood of Chinese in their newfound adopted lands are most often not "ideal". But their livelihood in their own motherland is appalling. The families of beautiful rural area sold / sell their daughters to prostitutions and slavery..... What a loving family and parents.
dark? give me a break, its sexual freedom. The CCP might as well legalize it and set an age limit to administrate it. As for mistreated, most hookers in China I talked to are doing it cause its easy money, in fact they are complaining that they are losing customers because of the recent crackdown by Xi Jinping on this industry. The vast majority of the whores are NOT victims.
@@markemailonly3114 I see that you're everywhere in the comment section trying to brush the issue away just because some are willingly doing it doesn't meant that "girls sold by their family" did not happen, doesn't means that there's no victim here, doesn't mean Winston's friend's girlfriend's story is invalid. Give us a break and take your sexual freedom excuse away.
@@anasmadani5217Some are doing it willingly? How about substitute the word some with the vast majority? Who denied the existence of parents introducing teenage girls? That's not what I am calling out BS on buddy. Winston literally said: "MOST of these girls have no choice. This is an illegal enterprise in China. A lot of them were tricked or coerced into being prostitutes. And that is why I am making this video, we need to raise awareness." He is purposely misrepresenting prostitution in China as if its some industry of oppression. It's simply bullshit. Just like prostitution anywhere else; the vast majority of hookers are doing it for easy money. The prostitution industry itself doesn't force anyone to work there, the rare cases of young girls sent by parents are the faults of abusive parents sending their kids and hiding their age.I've talked to no less than 20 hookers from Saunas to pink lights, all of them came because friends introduced them through some "auntie". Parents "forcing" teenage kids to work are very rare (I personally have never seen them, I only heard one of my friends said he met one, and she was not exactly coerced either, just influenced) and such rare phenomenons are entirely the problem of the parents, and can happen to any job, not just prostitution, and is not the direct problem of the industry itself or the CCP. Stop blaming it on the government or the industry and ignoring the real culprits. Also, the CCP is currently cracking down hard on prostitution, and I hear several prostitutes complaining that they are losing jobs, "Excuse" my ass. If anything, cracking down prostitution is whats oppressive to both the hookers and the customers and China should legalize prostitution and manage it better.
@@markemailonly3114 You’re right. These girls and most freelancer that i know enjoy a good life. In modern society and in big cities. Prostitution isn’t a dirty profession anymore. Hookers openly offer sex service online. Some are setting high prices too. They feel financial freedom. Some are nympho maniacs and earn a lot of money at the same time. Chinese hookers are hot and most have natural boobs
@@kyqorioskygo8999 Western feminists don't realize that hypergamy and gold-digging are much more tolerated in China and there is virtually no shaming on gold diggers (considered natural). Eventually, they will marry some beta men somewhere who will never find out about their past. Winston gets the entire narrative wrong. The CCP is trying to curb this recently, not encouraging it and if anything its harming the hookers' means of living.
Great point you make about giving a voice to China's voiceless. They literally could not speak up themselves like this without fear of arrest. It's not "disrespecting China"; it's showing how the CCP is ruling China.

Wow, heartbreaking indeed. I lived in Shanghai from 1995 to 2014. At first I never saw any signs of prostitution. Although I was actually propositioned once in 1995, I didn't realize that's what was happening until much later, it was so subtle. Fast forward to 2006 or so, and I could not even walk down Nanjing Lu in the evening without being propositioned repeatedly (once I was propositioned six times in one block) with "Girls girls girls" or "Hot sex" even as families sat around witnessing the whole thing. It was really sick and depraved.
The part starting at 0:01 of this video where all of the women were lining up brought me flashbacks to what happened to me out of nowhere when I was in Thailand too. A lot of things said in the video is VERY true about Thailand.
That kid at 13:38 thought he could get away with littering. But now we got it on camera and can report it to the authorities. His social credit is going to take a hit.

The moment I got into my room, literally the absolute second, the phone rang and I was asked if I wanted a massage, I also declined. Taiwan used to be like this, back in the days of single-party rule. Prostitution was technically illegal, but universally tolerated (and exploited for illicit gains) by the authorities to the extent that, as a visiting foreign businessman, for example, it was impossible to enjoy a relaxing beer at a hotel bar without being approached with "offers", and, yes, there were the cards under the door every night when you got back to the hotel. Just about every men's hair salon was a front for a brothel, as were numerous hot spring spas, massage parlors, and KTV (karaoke) joints. This all came to an end in the 1990's when Taiwan reformed its political system from single-party police state (sound familiar?) into a multi-party democracy with an independent justice system. With democracy came a widespread renaissance in civic engagement by ordinary citizens - temples, churches, and parents groups formed political alliances that supported candidates for office that pledged to take action against prostitution, the mafia and corrupt police. It worked. Not to say prostitution is completely gone (it never is), but it has been driven seriously underground. Now when businessmen close a deal, they go out for hot pot!
@@jakeblanton6853 I'd say the opposite - nowadays you have a very large middle class, and they have elected legislators and executives to their government who have cleaned up the place, so to speak. I spent a few days in Shanghai years ago and I couldn't walk anywhere at night (sometimes daytime) without being given one of these cards. A work friend and I were even propositioned at pretty much any bar we visited. The people who do this are annoyingly persistent, often requiring us to leave in order to get away. It really turned me off from ever visiting China again. It is quite ridiculous this is openly allowed to happen.
Winston, you have once again picked an interesting topic. When I lived in Japan in the 1990s we noticed those same type "cards" that they put under your door in China in phone booths & around certain districts in Ikebukuro & Shinjuku. The love hotels and other "full" service places such as "Soapland" are not too far away from schools & the like. Interestingly, last year I didn't see any of those cards in Tokyo...
My friends from South Korea tell me that prostitution works the same way there, and even the “services” you’ve listed in the end are the exact same. The only difference is that Korea might be a bit cleaner.

@@jamesstrawn6087 It's a matter of individual liberty. If a woman is not being coerced in to prostitution, if she is really engaging in the activity voluntarily, then she has a right to offer sex for money. And if a man wants to pay for sex, and is not married, then he is his right to do so. Our job, as right-thinking people, is to persuade both of them that it is not a good idea, not in their own interest to engage in prostitution. But we may not resort to force to stop their peaceful, consensual commerce. And making prostitution illegal is using force to violate their rights to liberty. Furthermore, making prostitution illegal is not effective at reducing prostitution, and has many unintended negative social consequences.

Hey Serpentza, so this one I actually agree with. Thanks for shedding light on this. The reason why boys are favored in the countryside is because when it's time for marriage, boys are the ones who stay with the parents (plus new family) so it's a retirement issue. You knew that, but I'd like to add this on. Many illegal things happen out in the open in China. Unfortunately, the same is true for many other countries. Ugh.

I know that village you are talking about. Over the years I have heard many stories from that part of the city. Particularly there are many gangs in xiasha and shangsha who is feared by the people living there so a lot of these ilegal stuff gets sweeped under the rug. For an idea on the gang's power, I knew a teacher working at a school there who had one of the gang boss's son as a student. In this one time the kid was misbehaving and causing a lot of trouble, so the teacher tried to lecture the kid and he got MAD. So the kid pulled out a knife and chased this teacher around the school's track for hours and the school could do nothing about it. This is a pretty old story btw so gang presence there might not be as prevalent as it used to be. FWIW, I worked for a Japanese company and had to travel to Tokyo every month or so. Stayed at a nice hotel and had these cards under my door every night when I returned from work.
This is very interesting. Twenty years ago I took a trip across Russia on the Trans Siberian railway from Moscow to Irkutsk, then south to Mongolia and finally ending up in Beijing. The same night we arrived in Beijing we were walking on the crowded sidewalk near the hotel and out of nowhere some Chinese guy approached my brother and I and said in broken English: "Chinese woman, your hotel room, sex." I replied, "no," to which he responded, "Thank you." Then he immediately disappeared into the crowd.
Serpentza, thanks for the explanation. reminds me of walking along the strip in Vegas when the hawkers push the cards into your hands. Excellent information.

OMG - I am a black woman. About 30 years ago, I brought US companies to China for manufacturing - Guangdong, Dongguan, Shenzhen, etc. After a full day's work with the Chinese manufacturing company, the representatives of the US client, and my male Chinese-Canadian business partner, on more than one occasion, the China company took all of us to "clubs." In these clubs, young soldiers (I think they were soldiers) with rifles lined the entrance. They were all super smily and nice with me, but jeez - the rifles! Once up stairs, we were led by a hostess to a room with a karaoke setup, semi-couches lining the walls, chairs, and a few cocktail tables. Several young women in tight suits, cheap heels, and short skirts soon came in. They gave each of us their business "cards" in typical polite Chinese fashion (they looked like regular business cards). Well, these gals must have been thrilled that I was there - all they did was sing karaoke all night, with tipsy men (from the Chinese manufacturing companies and my US clients), and keep us all drinking. I knew something was "off", but in my naivety, I did not recognize that they were part of the club's "offering." My heart goes out to these young women. At least my being a female client saved them from an otherwise ugly night of work.
I live in Hefei and don't see the prostitution cards very often. But when visiting Suzhou I was handed a card just near a bar, one side was in Chinese and the other in English and pretty straightforward in what you could pay for. Pretty surprised to get given it.

CCP doesn't like officers too clean to be controlled by them. To get in the "club", you have to networking with others.
Eventually, they will marry some beta men somewhere who will never find out about their past. Winston gets the entire narrative wrong.
And many of the people that I know from Taiwan say that it was better way back then...
@@jakeblanton6853 I'd say the opposite - nowadays you have a very large middle class, and they have elected legislators and executives to their government who have cleaned up the place, so to speak. You can go to a hotel bar and there are no mei-mei's there looking for a sugar daddy, just regular people on dates, groups of office workers having a social time, and even families! I like that a lot better than the sleazy, misogynistic past.
Yes, it was. And as corrupt as China is now. I lived there from the late 70s to early 80s. I was a student so wasn't involved in that as It was mostly a tourist or older expat kind of thing to do. But we all knew about it. Over the years, returning to Taiwan, it has gotten better and better. Both the people and society as a whole. A lot of the transactional aspects of relationships have changed. I also spend a lot of time on the mainland, and it reminds me a lot of what Taiwan was like "back in the bad old days".
Ban prostitution is anti-freedom.
@@jakeblanton6853 Exactly! Everything has two sides. China was way more fun when it was the wild west back when Winston actually lived here. Now it is all cleaned up but pretty boring for many reasons compared to then.
By the way, that was not a pimp with Winston at the table. He's a friend and they were talking about the prostitution advertising. It's in another video.
Thanks. Was "reserving judgment", but wondering.... 😅
Very thoughtfully done... I think one of the things I like about your videos is that it's obvious you are a compassionate person and that your Chinese experience affected you very deeply. I don't sense malice in your representations/videos but a sincere concern for the people that live under severe government control... I have watched 3 or 4 videos in a row and could have put this comment on any of them. I think that says a lot about your character and content.
That has changed a lot since then. It still happens but the drug dealers or being propositioned often is much rarer.

This is like the social acceptance of slavery in the U.S. in the 1600 and 1700. @@hhhhh81 I defend your right to do business with a willing prostitute. I'm just sad if that is your best option. But if you are Chinese, I understand that the bad One-Child policy of the evil Chinese government has done this to you.
Why not? Or is the victimization really so subjective?

I haven't visted that part of town for a long time now so it surprised me when this sort of stuff is still happens there.

I’ve only seen trading cards similar to this on the Las Vegas Strip. They still didn’t shove them under the door, just people on the corners passing them out.
