HYUNDAI i20N manual 2022 // End of an era?

  • A very damp road review of the little Hyundai i20N manual. Is this the last time we'll see a zippy 4-pot turbo manual gearbox hot hatch with a clever mechanical LSD. Surely time is running out for great little cars like this.
Stu takes it for a drive on some very wet roads around Sydney and tries to identify its competitors. Turns out its closest competitor is probably the more expensive but equally impressive Hyundai i30N.
If you enjoy our videos, please give us a thumbs up and share them with your fellow car-loving friends. We enjoy your comments and suggestions.

Great reviews as always. Can you please review the i30 sedan N ( the only N left for you to review if I am not mistaken) and the controversial 2022/2023 WRX as they have been often compared? I would especially be interested in the DCT vs SPT (CVT) comparison since both have been reported as having achieved faster acceleration times over the manual transmissions. I'd also like to hear your (Stu's) concise history lessons on the heritage and evolution of the WRX, and the CVT, which I have read was proposed/used by Williams in F1?, but then banned?

Thanks tcej. I will ask Hyundai if they have a sedan for us. What I DON'T know about WRXs and CVTs would fill volumes. I'll start doing some homework. I would have asked to ban the CVT in the Williams FW15C as well - it just sounds horrible without the rise and fall of revs.

You need a GR Yaris - the FWD I20 is useless in the wet!
Not really a hot hatch is it!

Cars such as the I20 will keep popping up, snooze

I guess you haven't seen our review of the GR Yaris. It was really good. We liked it. Around Wakefield Park, marginally slower than the i30N or i20N, which surprises a lot of people. I'm guessing you haven't driven an i20N in the wet. "useless" is not exactly the word I'd use

    • @relentlesspursuit6894

@@inCARnationAustralia you used the Rallye in your comparisons or the base model (which nobody purchased) right?
Put the Rallye GR against both the I20 and I30 and neither will stand a chance!
Yes, the I20 is cheap, but that's because it's just an I20. And yes, a FWD car is useless in the wet, that's just the nature of the beast I'm afraid!
Personally I think we will see plenty more FWD manual petrol cars for years to come, Ford, Peugeot, Hyundai etc will always try to sell us "warm" versions of there mundane daily cars.
You will note that comparison tests carried out (outside AUS) between the I20 and GR (Rallye) show the GR to be significantly in all scenarios without exception. Not only does it perform better it's simply a far more advanced and unique car. I suspect the price difference means I20 buyers wouldn't consider a GR and vice versa.

@@relentlesspursuit6894 I think you're bit harsh about the i20N. But yes, it was the base GR Yaris that wasn't as quick - same driver - same track - same conditions.
