Hyundai i30N (2025) Choose Mark choose! MANUAL or DCT

It's high time Mark takes the latest Hyundai i30N hatchback for a blast. This time with a manual gearbox. CHERY OMODA E5 / Real world Range / Disappointments and highlights
มุมมอง 3.5K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
Even though it's just a small white family SUV and not an exotic or sporty car I did want to like the Chery Omoda, it being their first attempt at a full EV. And I wanted to see if the claimed range of 430km is actually achievable. Short answer no. But overall I'm disappointed. In some respects the Chery Omoda E5 is a little underdone and I feel like they rushed it to market without enough user...

CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8 / Aussie Review of an epic car. We were really surprised how good it is.
I have heard allusions to Quentin Tarantino on this page in the comments before but surely for ‘Mals Big Green Hell’ the closest directorial comparison is David Lynch? What begins as a story of the strangely familiar - a stranger seeking fortunes in a new land (think a brightly faced Naomi Watts arriving from Canada to Los Angeles to find her fortune as an actress in ‘Mulholland Drive’) - Big Green Hell slowly lulls you into a dream like state of motor fuel fumes and neon lights illuminating cavernous dark forest roads. Indeed the crescendo of the 24 hour race is the change from day to night. Gone is the lush forest and quaint timber cottages. In its place, the heavy wheels of industry, petroleum giants, fire, twisted metal, sweat and heat illuminate the otherwise black of night. Akin to the sentient floating shots of the opening of Blade Runner coming in to future Los Angeles, Big Green Hell is surely making a strong environmental comment on the tenuous environmental situation which, whilst not fully fleshed out in 2006 was nonetheless surely an omnipresent force as humanity sped towards the Anthropocene. Any presence of nature disappears and only the light and fire of the track remain. Pit straight transforms into a industrialised mega city, and whilst hostile brings a strange sense of comfort for the drivers who are otherwise scared and alone in the dark on the other side of the world (or at least many kilometres away on the other side of the track). But just before the microsleep can set in, there are only a few hours left of the race. At what first might have seemed like an audio error, the unmistakable chirp of the ‘fat lady’ every few minutes takes the place of repeated devices across the cinematic universe - and like a tolling bell is a reminder to the audience the end is only a mis steered corner away. And in true Lynchian fashion, even though the checkered flag comes for 2 of the 3 vehicles, you still get the sense that something is strangely off - that our protagonists are not truly satisfied - their struggle not fully resolved. That’s what a 24 hours race will do to you, forcing the participants to truly understand that it’s about the journey, about survival - not about winning. Until you have faced the dark demons of the forest at 3am, you may not personally understand this transformation, but the deft touch of Incarnation attempts to take you on the journey through time and space to understand that first, you must finish.
Fantastic car and review. I’m so grateful to have presenters here who can discuss and appreciate all sorts of cars without playing into biases in car subcultures. Your channel is criminally underrated! What an iconic sound.
Thank you. I'm sure we have our own biases and prejudices, no doubt shaped by our background and environment. But we appreciate your support. The sad thing is we found that glorious cars like this generate very little interest to the gods of the YT algorithm compared to, for example, a cheap hot hatch. But we'll plug on regardless with the fancy ones when they become available, thanks to afficionados like Peter, the owner of the R8 LMS.
@ I think you guys do an excellent job balancing the types of cars on the channel, and it’s unfortunate the algorithm plays its own game. Certainly grateful to owners willing to share their cars. We need more presenters like you who can appreciate everything from V10s to small EVs, and respect their different places in the world over time - it’s the only way we’ll get past this ape-brain division that’s going on. Thanks!
Brilliant! Send billions of hard earned Australian dollars to China to finance communist domination of your country. And as communism worked such wonders for China, why would Aussies not love it as well?
Whew! I won't lie. I was nervous as hell because I'm about to purchase a 2000 Boxter -S (manual, of course!) with 39K miles, one owner with well-kept service records. I was nervous because it's 2024 and the car is a 2000 model. I'm trading in my VERY reliable Honda Civic and will now have one car. Hearing stories about IMS bearings had me worried, and I'll make sure to read service records to see if the IMS bearings have been an issue. Nevertheless, after watching this video and reading corresponding comments, I feel a LOT more relaxed about my impending purchase (Monday morning!). So, thanks to the gents at inCarnation Australia and those who commented in this thread. I did test drive the car (3x!!!) and, I SWEAR, it was THE best driving experience I have EVER had in my 6 decades of driving. So, if I'm not glued to my Boxster on Monday, I'll write a follow-up. Thanks, folks, for making me feel a LOT more comfortable with my upcoming purchase! Dr. B.

You can get these for 20 now lol
China car haters are paid 😂 next thing we know is they will be buying one after getting paid 😅
Great review🙏
My car is exactly the same car and colour 2023. What a fun car and the only issues i’ve had is the rear light centre strip had condensation, covered by warranty. The other issue was those soft pirelli’s only lasting 5,000 miles 😒and in the cold winter of the Uk they jumped and skipped on turning. I now have Michelin pilot sport 5 and they are great 👍
Glad to see the project is moving forward. Sorry to learn about Matt's illness, but good to see him recovering! Love his can-do attitude and fabricating skills. Fascinating project. Fellow 928 owner.
"Those Chinese engineers had a good look at the Korean opposition" and went to the Chinese Communist Party to look for more money in subsidies with which to kill the competition in the west.
Hell of a review, loved it.
Great cars I own a 2020 manual model and regularly track it super fun and very capable, I'm at 30k with 100s laps track laps with Zero Issues well done Hyundai 👏 ✔️
the front view reminds me of the MCMURTY. fan car.
Yeah now you mention it...
bought this car like a month ago. fabulous car, i might go for a drive there one day.
Whıch Porsche do you mean ıf thats Turbo S will destroy thıs toy👍🚀
It will beat most Porsche costing 3 times as much. A Porsche Turbo S is indeed a little bit faster to 100km/h. About 0.8 seconds. And costs $577,000 starting price in Australia. This "toy" costs about $120k, so it's $450k cheaper. I've owned Porsches for over 40 years, including a boosted 911 Turbo - but your point is lame. This car is not a toy. 1:43 lap at SMP. Serious car.
Glad to hear you're doing better, Matt!
Surprising to see how much is included in the facelift standard i30n that used to be "Premium only". Front parking sensors Auto dimming interior mirror Privacy glass Rain sensing wipers Nowdays only 3 items differentiate the base manual i30n and an i30n Premium without sunroof. The heated N light seats, heated steering wheel and Solar control front windshield. For those 3 items you pay an extra $3700.
Removing the rear wing may be a good idea, as that one is a bit draggy. However it would be a good idea to attach a spoiler of sorts as this will reduce drag significantly, at least 10%. You just need a lip to trip the air before it is pulled over the rear. If the air is allowed to wrap around the rear it will create a substantial low pressure pool over the rear corner.
My car makes the whooshing noise because mine has a ktec cold air intake system. So im guessing there's one in this
Lane keeping off - just press and hold the lane keeping button until the symbol on the dash turns orange. Speed limit warning, press and hold pause button until notice comes up that speed limit is info only. Two button presses when you start and it’s all cleared.
While we're all glad to see Matt back on his feet I would like to let viewers know that another character from this series, Wayne, who if you remember is building his EV-powered Honda S2000, is also in hospital 🩺🤢. Wayne has a serious heart condition 💔🫀and we all want to wish him a speedy recovery 🤒and return to work on his EVS2K project🤞
Bloody Hell, a week in hospital these days is definitely not something to dismiss as just suffering from a runny nose or the common cold!!!🙏 Glad to hear (and see) that Matt is back on deck and firing on all cylinders again!!!👌
Hey Matt, sorry to hear you were crook, but it's great to see that you're back on your feet again. Take care. There are two great things about this project: your workmanship & problem solving, and Stu's humour. The battery yelling "faaaarq" a few weeks ago was hilarious. (Actually, Stu's cleverer than he makes out he is, but don't tell him that. We won't want him getting a big head)
Stu=>🥴
Sick vid mate. Grand!
Matt, you're a legend mate. Never seen you grumpy or stressed.
Good to see some progress again, we've been suffering withdrawal!. Feel better Matt, Stu will be in trouble without you ;-)
Does the auto have an adaptive cruise? Thanks
No, both manual and DCT have non-adaptive cruise. Something of an omission these days.
Sorry Matt! Hope recovery is quick and full!
Glad to see Matt back on his feet. He’s obviously an extremely talented craftsman and needs to look after himself as much as he looks after his projects. With his attitude and skills he could do anything he set his mind on, and it’s easy to see how good he is.
Generally I like the look of a spoiler on a sporty looking car. But the 928 looks good regarless.
The weird molding on the rear bumper at 13:11 and the support brace at 13:37 aren't new with the facelift model.
Good to see you back on your feet Matt.
Good to see things moving forward again. Hope you feel better Matt.
Great to know the EV project is again making progress. Glad to hear Matt is recovering from his illness. All the best! Keep up the good work gents, I love the videos. As an owner of a 85 S3 and 87 S4 I'm always interested in 928 videos and all things Porsche.
Hope you feel better soon Matt! Love watching you work on the car. I am only here for the engineering :)
Jeez, nobody's here for my insightful narrative and hilarious banter. 🤨🤕Disappointed!
Good to see you (and the project) back Matt! Wishing you an ongoing speedy recovery.
Mat seems to have infinite patience even when he is unwell. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to full health. 🫡
Glad you’re feeling better Matt!
Nice to see you on the mend Matt! Coming along now, won't be long until its on the road. Stu if you need a good place to powder coat the frame I have a good contact for you. Cheers Steve. 356 looks interesting but I think I'll stick with the Porsche motor in my two. Cheers Steve
Thanks Steve. I just gave the frame another good coat of primer, but the outside skin will probably need to look a bit flashier. I'll be in touch.
Always great, real-world reviews. I would be interested to know if someone has fitted the i30 Sedan N seats to the i30N Hatch...
Just in case you aren't aware yet - Richard Morgan at Electric Classic Cars (in Wales) has announced that they are working on an electric 928. They are hoping to make it capable of 200mph.
Yes I'm watching with interest. Theirs will be a 200mph bahnstormer. Quite different from mine.
Great to see that Matt's feeling better and remember that your health and his is always more important than any project.
True!
Happy to see you well Matt. Love the videos
Glad to see Mat back on deck, he's indispensable.
Glad to hear you're on the mend, Matt. Your work is the most interesting part of the show, and it looks like you're doing a hell of a good job on the 928.
Sorry to hear you were sick Matt. Of course bringing to fruition Stu's crazy ideas had nothing to do with that. 😉
The project is going great But The interior and exterior fit and finish of that blue replica isn’t a good advertisement for that kit car company.
These thing will fall apart after 100k on our crap roads
