The cars sweet spot is over 25k mileage wise. After this sort of mileage they become a lot more free raving and the gear changes become far smoother the auto rev match can attempt to trigger on up shifts if you aren’t perfect during selecting the next gear during the break in period. Common issues I’ve encountered are rattling mirror and camera surrounds these are easily fixed and condensation within the rear lights these were replaced under warranty in my case. Thanks so much for this! I have to add to a previous comment and say that this is also for me the best review of the i20N, that I've seen on TH-cam (and I've also seen them all). Just the sort of content I was looking for - comprehensive, grounded and balanced and, thankfully not all revving and pops and bangs, that so many reviewers seem to think that's what this car is all about! I get my i20N this weekend and getting quite excited about it. From test drives I've had, it certainly seems a fun, 'spirited' drive and I think you hit the nail on the head, when you said about it not being that powerful and that fast, but feels it. Good also about fuel consumption with mixed driving styles - quite important I think when justifying this car for daily use. Thanks again - keep them coming!
I knew you'd be impressed Peter. I've put michelin ps 5 on mine and it eliminated the rumbling from the diff at low speeds on lock too. Epic motor, hurry up with the remap.
Fantastic review. Things are looking bleak nowadays for this kind of affordable, compact hot hatches but this just saves the day. And to boot the real world mpg reports are astonishing. If all aligns, I want one now!
Quick update on my order Peter. Ordered first week in sept 22 and was told don’t expect it any sooner than sept 23. They rang me mid October and told me it will be here 3rd of November 22 ??? Cancelled order by the sounds of it but anyway I collect the car this Thursday the 10th of November in white, black roof and Bose stereo, can’t wait!!!
I don’t like hot hatches but there is something so cool about this cutely design small hatchback with the right bhp for fast road driving. I certainly like the i20N and will recommend this car for my son as a good value proposition. Thanks Pete!
Absolutely love the I30N & clearly the i20N is just as much fun although not driven one yet Kia really had come on leaps and bounds over the last 10 years It's nice to see the manual gearbox still offered instead of just an automatic or flappy paddle
Cracking review, I’m currently waiting on a performance blue i20N which I will have soon , I absolutely can’t wait and really looking forward to getting mine ,,, it seems to have oldskool hot hatch character, I grew up around Escort/Fiesta XR2’s,XR3i’s,RS turbo’s,, R5 GT turbo’s , Vauxhall Nova’s , etc etc ,,, 😎👍
That 40mph sign at the twisty road bit is typically of the nanny state it is perfectly possible to drive it faster much faster. That was on my alternative route back from Gatwick airport to the west midlands. I am a fan of Hyundai.
I bought a Honda Civic 1.5 sport on the strength of your review a few years back and I’ve loved that car and now I’ve just ordered one of these i20N’s unfortunately it won’t be here until September 2023, you should be on commission Peter….great video by the way 👍
The only thing I’d say is that, down a B road this thing IS fast. It doesn’t just feel it. Tune it a little and the bigger hot hatches that cost twice as much are going to be made to look silly.
Much better fuel economy than the GR. 32mpg is best I can get, but not what I bought if for. Does look a great hot hatch at a good price. Good review, thank you.
Hi Ped Busy four days going back up to Prescott, just had time to view the pocket rocket. Looks like a lot of fun, and surely must go onto many punters buying list at that price.🤗
I'm averaging 25.1 over 18 months in a GR Yaris!! That's daily, short trips. I see around 32 on longer and boring drives🥱 My i30N performance pack, before, was just over 26, longterm. This is ALWAYS and only enthusiastic driving. What fun cars are made for after all. I'm sure a V8 would be giving ME around 12-14 mpg, in comparison, so happy days....... for as long as they last..... And yes, I'm definitely not in a queue for a bl.. jo. anytime soon from Greta👌
Great review , you convinced me to buy the very last one available here in Ireland today , prices in uk are way way cheaper than here , a metaiilc paint one here is € 43,000 that converts to £ 37,540
I absolutely love my i 20N It sounds awesome I get so many comments all the time from people in the street when you put your foot down it always puts a smile on my face and I also get a really good Mpg Considering the type of car only thing I might change is the tires just because they Wear out quite quickly
@@elpochiloco2126 The Pirelli P zero Front tires only lasted 3500 miles I do mostly town driving and I occasionally put my foot down but I don’t drive it hard all the time not much at all really I’ve never had any tires on any of the other cars I’ve had wear out this fast i’ve changed them to Continental premium contact plus I hope this will last a little longer if you look at the N cars forum there’s a lot of people who have had the same problem with the Pirelli‘s I definitely wouldn’t buy them again
Peter you have found a lovely blue coloured little rocket as you said at the beginning, sounds good, looks good and by golly it does you good!!! 👍👍👍🚘🚘🚘
Mate I’ve been waiting this car since 6 months now and today with your review you gave me more energy to wait for it cause I was loosing hope . The best review I’ve seen for the car and trust me I’ve seen a lots maybe all of them .
5 GT Turbo had awful Turbo Lag. After a test drive, I decided not to buy one because of the 'uncertain' power delivery and overtaking safety. I bought a Suzuki Swift GTi instead - best gearchange ever. Trading my 2007 Suzuki Swift Sport for a brand spanking new i20n tomorrow. No turbo lag issues with the Hyundai. Fantatstic package overall. Great gearchange, brakes and ultra-responsive steering. Bring it on!
Great review, pretty much highlighting what my thoughts are on the car, im just about to order one, one thing you didn't mention was the Hyundai five year warranty and their excellent performance in the JD power survey, which swung me away from the fiesta ST, can't wait to get behind the wheel!
The mpg vs performance is remarkable. I can no longer console myself that although I don't have a hot hatch, I save money on fuel. On the flip side when I come to replace my car, this car can be on my list! Brilliant review as always.
0 to 60 in 6.25 is similar to the old pre face lift i30n so very impressive for manual fwd car If I could get away with a smaller car I’d seriously look at getting one
What a cracker! I actually love the colour, really think it suits the car. Just seems to tick so many boxes without having to wince at the price. Good work Hyundai 👍🏻
@@PetrolPed yes I was surprised too! It's actually my company car and it replaced a 330e. I wasn't expecting it to get 15+ mpg more than the hybrid, but it turns out the 330e is actually pretty horrendous on fuel. I regretted the i20N at first, but I absolutely love it now, it's a fantastic little machine.
Agreed but the suspension is very harsh at the end of it's travel. Accidental pot holes and road resurfacing can sound 'fatal'... My 16 year old Suzuki Swift Sport handled rough roads better
Glad you managed to get hold of one for the review and a great review it was. Shame the suspension has no adjustment like the i30N but at this price point you cant have everything. Best bang for your buck 👍
Couldn't agree with you more about the horsepower race. The older I get the less sense I see in having mega amounts of horsepower that can't be used. Now imagine the Hyundai technology in a Mk 1 Toyota MR2!
Great road test, and where many tester never really give real world tests, you have ,mpg etc. AND, you answered to big question, better than a Fiesta ST, the leader .... maybe not any more?
Interesting take on the i20N - can it be that this is a better choice than the Ford Fiesta ST! It actually looks the more premium product, and very well equipped as standard.
Seems like a great car from an objective point of view. Lots of kit, low-ish weight for a modern car. Good amount of power. Handles well. Great exhaust noise for a turbo. Unfortunately I just can’t help but feel disillusioned with modern hot hatches. You can hear the synthetic noise in the cabin. The turbo engine just seems a bit slow to respond with the heavy flywheel. I miss old NA and supercharged hatched with quick throttle response, real noise, short wheelbase and super agile. They seem to be a thing of the past 😢
You think that but when you open the window what you were hearing is the same as it actually sounds. The i20n doesn’t really fake it. It’s loud for a mini hot hatch.
It's very easy to unplug/remove the fake sound. You can even unplug a fuse for it. But that also removes the passengers heated seat. But you can do it to test it without it. It's easy to completely remove it though. Just gotta remove the windshield wipers and some covers, then it's there to remove = no fake sound :D
Evening all... Great review and some car! It does look good and stands out and is away from the usual 'racer hatchbacks' eg Fiesta ST's! Your description of, 'its not that powerful or fast' but you feel you're going fast is just like and old Mini... You feel like you're doing 100mph at 30+ but you keep your licence for the same adrenaline rush! 👌🤓 I would also agree that cars around this price point, especially 'higher, sports' models have to reduce costs somewhere, hence the 'cheaper' plastics. All in all, an awesome car, especially 40+mpg, perfect daily for some weekend B-Road fun! 🙌
My partner has a i20N as her daily driver and has to do two motorway/dual carriage way round trips of 150 miles each weekly. She averages over 45 mpg. It really is a hard car to fault.
Well of course the hot hatches I like (other then the focus RS which is just to expensive) aren’t offered in the USA! Definitely a shame. I would of bought one on your review alone Sir Pete! I really enjoy you hot hatch reviews! I’ve really enjoyed you back to reviewing cars again!
Absolutely fantastic video thoroughly enjoyed it just having some burgers for supper and this is much better than what’s on the telly keep up your amazing work thank you so much for the videos just brilliant regards Tristan
Great car...when it is working. We're having an epidemic of i20N fuel pump failures in Australia which has left myself and an ever growing number of other i20N owners with no car and currently no idea when they will be fixed. Head on over to Hyundai i20N owners club Australia to see for yourself
Weheey - finally! I remember asking when you were going to get one of these in for testing months ago! Had mine since January and it's been an absolute hoot. Turns a lot of heads and they are proper little unicorns... I've seen at least a dozen GR Yaris' doing my normal daily commute, but yet to see another i20N on the road in my 5k miles. Only gripe is the same and most owners - the god awful P-Zero's... Great in a 30°+ heatwave, but had a coupe of properly sketchy moments back in the winter (with both ends very suddenly giving up grip), and I'm about to have the front and rears swapped to eek a few more miles out of them, because apparently they are made of cheese. Best part? I only paid just over £23.5k for mine with Perf Blue paint and Bose upgrades. Don't think I'll ever buy another new car that will be worth more than I paid for it after 6 months hah.
And why do you see more GR's on the road than i20 - because everyone wants a GR over an i20. You'll always lose grip in a FWD car, if you wanted grip in all conditions the GR Yaris was the car you should of gone for
@@relentlesspursuit6894 Oh fucking hell, you again... Nobody wants to indulge in your internet arguments dude. Your a Yaris fan, we get it, you don't need to jump to it's defense every time somebody dares compare it to something else (even if I wasn't talking about performance at all).
@@relentlesspursuit6894 actually, it/s simpler than that - there were almost 3x more Mk.1 GR Yaris road registed in the UK than i20Ns. If you don't believe me go check the Govt website for yourself. Now there's Mk.2 GRs being released and the i20N has been discontinued
Brilliant and totally agree. Speed is relative to the available power of the car. Looks like a lot of fun to drive. Sadly I don't agree with you on the spoiler and rear end. I'm not keen. MPG impressive on a journey. £25k. What's not to like. Cheers
Peter thanks for the review, reinforces my thoughts. Unfortunatley Hyundai are quoting me about 9 months delivery lead time. My ideal replacement for my much loved Cotswolds & Cornwall fun run car VW UPGTi
Always worth shopping round the dealerships for a cancelled order - I wanted one in Phantom Black and was really lucky getting one in this colour locally, with the bonus of having the Bose sound system too. In my case, the car arrived 6 weeks after putting down the deposit. Originally dealers were quoting 9 months as a newly placed order. Even if you do wait though - it's so worth it - car is absolutely epic!

I own one since december ans i'm very happy with the car . Brilliant piece of engineering
Cool 😎
I don’t like hot hatches but there is something so cool about this cutely design small hatchback with the right bhp for fast road driving. I certainly like the i20N and will recommend this car for my son as a good value proposition. Thanks Pete!
No worries 👍
Great review. This and one other good one sold me, picked up my new i20n on Saturday, such a beast for the size
Good choice. Enjoy 👍
Evening pal, these type of cars always put a smile on my face. Lovely
Absolutely love the I30N
& clearly the i20N is just as much fun although not driven one yet
Kia really had come on leaps and bounds over the last 10 years
It's nice to see the manual gearbox still offered instead of just an automatic or flappy paddle
I trully hope they keep the manual for the i20 next years
KIA?
@@charlesdr1981 KIA and Hyundai are so intertwined that are basically considered the same company by many.
Best I20N review in TH-cam, thanks a lot, liked & subscribed! 🙂
Thanks for the Sub and welcome to the channel 👍
Cracking review, I’m currently waiting on a performance blue i20N which I will have soon , I absolutely can’t wait and really looking forward to getting mine ,,, it seems to have oldskool hot hatch character, I grew up around Escort/Fiesta XR2’s,XR3i’s,RS turbo’s,, R5 GT turbo’s , Vauxhall Nova’s , etc etc ,,, 😎👍
It sure does 👍
That 40mph sign at the twisty road bit is typically of the nanny state it is perfectly possible to drive it faster much faster. That was on my alternative route back from Gatwick airport to the west midlands. I am a fan of Hyundai.
I bought a Honda Civic 1.5 sport on the strength of your review a few years back and I’ve loved that car and now I’ve just ordered one of these i20N’s unfortunately it won’t be here until September 2023, you should be on commission Peter….great video by the way 👍
Thanks Ashley 👍
What a review Sir!!! Bang on the experiance. Thank you for the great work, plz do more reviews wen possible...Well done
Thanks 🙏🏻
Really fancy one of these. Watched most reviews and this is by far the best. Nice one Pete 👍🏽
Ah thanks dude 👍
The only thing I’d say is that, down a B road this thing IS fast. It doesn’t just feel it.
Tune it a little and the bigger hot hatches that cost twice as much are going to be made to look silly.
Just purchased one getting delivered a week on Friday cant wait :D
You lucky thing 👌
Much better fuel economy than the GR. 32mpg is best I can get, but not what I bought if for. Does look a great hot hatch at a good price. Good review, thank you.
Cheers Malcolm 👍
Sold. What great piece of hot hatchery.
Indeed 👍
The other thing is that you can hit 60 in 2nd gear and go faster than that. 100%, because I have one.
Hi Ped
Busy four days going back up to Prescott, just had time to view the pocket rocket. Looks like a lot of fun, and surely must go onto many punters buying list at that price.🤗
I'm averaging 25.1 over 18 months in a GR Yaris!! That's daily, short trips. I see around 32 on longer and boring drives🥱
My i30N performance pack, before, was just over 26, longterm.
That might be to do with a heavy right foot 😜😂
what do you mean the tires wear out?
👍
Congrats on 150k subs...!
Thanks Mark 👍
I like everything about this car. I had a similar rear spoiler fitted to my Golf GTD during the early 1990s which attracted a lot of comments!
Mate I’ve been waiting this car since 6 months now and today with your review you gave me more energy to wait for it cause I was loosing hope . The best review I’ve seen for the car and trust me I’ve seen a lots maybe all of them .
That awesome to hear 👍
Renault 5 GT Turbo - what a car, you were lucky to have one of those! Great review. Thanks (waiting for my collection date - arghhh!)
One of my favourites 👍
5 GT Turbo had awful Turbo Lag. After a test drive, I decided not to buy one because of the 'uncertain' power delivery and overtaking safety. I bought a Suzuki Swift GTi instead - best gearchange ever. Trading my 2007 Suzuki Swift Sport for a brand spanking new i20n tomorrow. No turbo lag issues with the Hyundai. Fantatstic package overall. Great gearchange, brakes and ultra-responsive steering. Bring it on!
I got the car 4 days absolute blast fun car and insane acceleration puts an instant SMILE ON YOUR FACE😉
👍
Great review, pretty much highlighting what my thoughts are on the car, im just about to order one, one thing you didn't mention was the Hyundai five year warranty and their excellent performance in the JD power survey, which swung me away from the fiesta ST, can't wait to get behind the wheel!
Get ready for a very long wait.
Great point!
The mpg vs performance is remarkable. I can no longer console myself that although I don't have a hot hatch, I save money on fuel. On the flip side when I come to replace my car, this car can be on my list! Brilliant review as always.
Thanks 👍
Cracking review.Hope you enjoyed the Bentley experience.
Sure did 👍
Great review of a great little pocket rocket. Nice one, Pete.
Cheers Darren. Such a fun little car 👍
I own a GR Yaris Circuit Pack
120 N seems a really fun car
Keep up the good work Ped
You are a great reviewer of cars
Thank you 🙏🏻
The twisty road sign recognition is a driving nanny I can get behind!
Indeed 😂
0 to 60 in 6.25 is similar to the old pre face lift i30n so very impressive for manual fwd car
If I could get away with a smaller car I’d seriously look at getting one
Good review mate! Get mine in January woo hoo!
You’re gonna love it 👍
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. One of the best Small Hot Hatches on sale
What a cracker! I actually love the colour, really think it suits the car.
Just seems to tick so many boxes without having to wince at the price. Good work Hyundai 👍🏻
Nice one .Peter, loads of smiles per miles 😊
Oh yes 🙌
I drove from Bristol to Scotland in mine, average 65mph and mpg of 51.5, pretty good for this type of car!
Wow 😮
@@PetrolPed yes I was surprised too! It's actually my company car and it replaced a 330e. I wasn't expecting it to get 15+ mpg more than the hybrid, but it turns out the 330e is actually pretty horrendous on fuel. I regretted the i20N at first, but I absolutely love it now, it's a fantastic little machine.
Loved this review, thank you 😊 Being in this car with virtually no body roll is so bloody special and confidence inspiring, love this car so much
👍
Agreed but the suspension is very harsh at the end of it's travel. Accidental pot holes and road resurfacing can sound 'fatal'... My 16 year old Suzuki Swift Sport handled rough roads better
@@ThePedroDByes going through a pothole is unpleasant, thank goodness it's so excellent most of the time 😊😊😊
Glad you managed to get hold of one for the review and a great review it was. Shame the suspension has no adjustment like the i30N but at this price point you cant have everything. Best bang for your buck 👍
It doesn’t need it to be honest 👌👍
Hi, we are getting it, that’s amazing. Might have to check it out.
👍
Brilliant. Seriously tempted to buy one as a keeper. We are really going to miss cars like this.
Great review, just what a 'Hot Hatch' should be. Small, enough power and it handles. 🤔 remembering the 205 GTI.
Indeed 👍
Couldn't agree with you more about the horsepower race. The older I get the less sense I see in having mega amounts of horsepower that can't be used. Now imagine the Hyundai technology in a Mk 1 Toyota MR2!
👍
The power can be used, you just need to look beyond FWD-only. Of course, that brings a cost/weight trade-off...
Great road test, and where many tester never really give real world tests, you have ,mpg etc.
AND, you answered to big question, better than a Fiesta ST, the leader .... maybe not any more?
Thanks Gavin 👍
Great review Pete. Waiting for my order to turn up. Linked the vid in the fb group 👍
Amazing thanks dude 👍
Interesting take on the i20N - can it be that this is a better choice than the Ford Fiesta ST! It actually looks the more premium product, and very well equipped as standard.
It’s as good if not better than an ST 👍
Another great video thanks Peter. I would put this car on my list too.
👍
Sadly we won’t see that “N” car here Pete. I think that one looks like a riot to drive !!! Another great vid mate 🍻🇨🇦👍🏻
Boo 😒
Awesome review! I love the look of that i20N. Wish I could afford one!
Car Finance Bro.
Cheers Rod 👍
My partner has a i20N as her daily driver and has to do two motorway/dual carriage way round trips of 150 miles each weekly. She averages over 45 mpg. It really is a hard car to fault.
👍
Well of course the hot hatches I like (other then the focus RS which is just to expensive) aren’t offered in the USA! Definitely a shame. I would of bought one on your review alone Sir Pete!
I really enjoy you hot hatch reviews! I’ve really enjoyed you back to reviewing cars again!
Cheers dude 👍
Absolutely fantastic video thoroughly enjoyed it just having some burgers for supper and this is much better than what’s on the telly keep up your amazing work thank you so much for the videos just brilliant regards Tristan
Cheers Bud 👍
Great car...when it is working. We're having an epidemic of i20N fuel pump failures in Australia which has left myself and an ever growing number of other i20N owners with no car and currently no idea when they will be fixed. Head on over to Hyundai i20N owners club Australia to see for yourself
Loved the review. My i20n has done 6k miles, eco will easily do 60mpg at 60 mph. Track, high single figures 😎
Nice 👌
Great stuff Ped. Love to get one of those for the mrs. So I can steal it.
😂😂😂
nice review, hope you can get your hands on Kona N as well..
Yep. Coming soon as that meant to be even better 👍
Great review of a hot hatch I’m picking up soon 👍
Good choice!
Nice 👌
@@ThePedroDB nobody wanted the I20, hence the poor sales and Hyundai dropping it from the lineup after a couple of years
Brilliant and totally agree. Speed is relative to the available power of the car. Looks like a lot of fun to drive. Sadly I don't agree with you on the spoiler and rear end. I'm not keen. MPG impressive on a journey. £25k. What's not to like. Cheers
Ordered one in phantom black, don't think I can wait a few more months :)
They look ace in black 👌
Can we talk about the SEAT GOD DAMN THEY LOOK INSANE
What a great review
Thanks 🙏🏻

Great review for 25k it’s a no brainier👍😎
Great review Ped
Thanks 👍
Peter thanks for the review, reinforces my thoughts.
Unfortunatley Hyundai are quoting me about 9 months delivery lead time.
My ideal replacement for my much loved Cotswolds & Cornwall fun run car VW UPGTi
Worth the wait 👍
Agree with @petrol ped. Ordered mine (UK - London based) February/early march. Delivery expected October/November.
@@Mark-fl1hg mine was cancelled!
Great review PP , got one on order and should be available Jan '23.
You will love it 👍
