    P3 Pro vs Inspire1 version 1 Sorry all, had to re-edit the video because of all the rude comments of people wanting to give me their 2 cents about the USA, our rules over here, location blockages and on and on.... I had to edit some things out to protect some people who were getting targeted for spam mail. Two spotters on the ground for possible recovery and we flew over a heavily wooded area where the video signal was absorbed pretty good. The results will surprise you all as it did us! Remember, these are STOCK units with no modifications done to the transmitters. If you are going to leave me a comment, please keep it professional........... If you already left me a POSITIVE post, I would really appriciate it if you could repeat it again since I had to take down the hundreds of prior views and great posts!!! Thanks again for watching everyone, please subscribe and be sure to see my other videos. Thanks again for watching and I hope it brought a smile on someones' face out there!

      +chris digata THANK YOU VERY MUCH JOSEPH FOR THE GREAT COMMENTS! I get self proclaimed "drone police" telling me all the time that I'm pushing things too far and my tests are unsafe....... unreal...... even worse are these guys on some of these blog sites like phantom pilots and inspire pilots etc who think they are the FINAL word to flying drones......... Really makes me kind of sick when you think about it! I guess you just have to laugh at some of their comments but there will always be the few that make it hard for the rest of us to enjoy and test products and tell others what works and what doesn't as claimed! Again, thanks again Chris!!!!!!!!!

    • @CDigata
      @CDigata 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      yes I agree with you Anton, you must be more careful when holding your controller DD, if dropped it may get dammaged, please hold it safely :) and please do remember Anton that when you walk across the road there is a much higher % risk of being unsafe than a drone hurting anyone

      Chris......... GREAT POINTS!!!!!! Obviously all those steps we took for this test were not good enough for some....... There will always be the few who look to purchase their first drone and are looking for reasons to throw rocks at those who have been doing this hobby since the beginning. Thanks for the support Chris!

    I picked up a Phantom 3 and I'm blown away by easy it is to fly and how high the picture quality is. I seriously cannot get enough of this thing, thank God I bought an extra battery. Seriously one of the best toys I've had since I sold my motorcycle and started having kids lol. I live in a wooded area so the range is right at a mile or so, at least that's my comfort zone but it does take amazing photos and video. I wish it had a zoom feature but wasn't even aware of the radar until you showed it in your video, thank you!
    In short, if you're looking for a big boy hobby and a lot of fun, I seriously don't know how you can go wrong. I did pick up some rotor guards but it's surprisingly easy to fly. Turning off the red lights is great for a shot but it does make night flight more challenging. Perhaps the back should illuminate solid green when the red is off? It makes it difficult to fly by sight and you end up just using the monitor. Great video, thanks for sharing.

      +Bill Blowers Don't get too comfortable......... I've had a flyaway with my P3 and I fly every day that I can't explain........ They are still mechanical so anything can happen. I test some of these things under the best controlled situations that I could do back then and I wouldn't do it again if I could........ I have seen too many things over the past couple years that have opened my eyes in more ways than one....... Just take it slow and have fun Bill! Learn from all the mistakes you see and hear so you don't have to make them too! Thanks again for watching and subscribing!

    All I can add is that as a pilot we are trained to check MET conditions before flight, so you can calculate flight times, takeoff distance, etc. using wind speeds at surface and altitude. It's nice to have an app calculate for you (and yes, Foreflight on the iPad will do this too for a real a/c), but you should know winds vs. flight path so you'll KNOW the effect on battery/flight times.
    VFR charts and a handheld VHF scanner might be a good idea too, just so you know you aren't going to be in someone's prop (or God forbid, turbofan). Given the range and altitudes these things can achieve, I can see TC/FAA requiring a license in 3...2...1...

    Great video man! I received a P3 for Christmas and even after 4-5 days of flying i know ill be spending much more time outside with my new baby. I cannot believe how far the P3 goes beyond its specified range. 15,000ft?!?!? that's incredible! Because of pioneers like you, running tests like this, the rest of the drone community can feel a tad bit safer. Don't worry about all these rock throwers. i bet you people were even throwing rocks at the guy who came up with RC quad-copters! And look at us now! Keep up the great work. Sub'd!

    Well done Drone Doctor, it's a nice comparison. The Inspire must weight in a little more than the P3 and probably has a bit more drag also.I've also flown to 15 000 ft, with no signal loss at 300 feet altitude, with my P3, here in Canada. I could probably have reached a little further but entered a residential area so I turned back.I've done a lot of long distance flights perfectly, and all three failsafe systems work terrific when required.I've also gotten close to a restricted private airport zone and the App told me so automatically, so it was easy to safely move away.You are right that's it's a great machine.Jack

    Fantastic, Well done. I have both, I must say the P3 seems to handle quite well and if it werent for the props showing on the foward thrust the Phantom 3 pro would be the better bird. I can't complain about my Inspire, that 360 degree unobstructed camera view is hard to beat! The light bridge is an amazing tool. I appreciate your time and effort, a great video, thank you!

    • @rant-n-rave7816
      @rant-n-rave7816  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tracy Miller I will tell you though Tracy, be careful doing full acceleration and aggressive flying with the P3. I had a CRAZY flyaway the other night where the bird lost compass calibration, went vertical, and took off at 50.3mph! I regained control after a few crazy crazy seconds but we never figured out what the hell caused it. For the P3 to go 50.3mph, it had to be at full power vertical so that is scary............. no more aggressive flying with my P3........... I save the really aggressive stuff for my Inspire1 Pro......... Just be careful.......

    Those are definitely some awesome distances by two very nice quad copters. My only concern is the fly always. I know you only hear the bad news on the forums and out of all the phantoms sold the flyaway's are probably a minuscule number at best. But that would still be in the back of my mind every time I took it up I think LOL. Thanks for another awesome video my friend.

      @rant-n-rave7816  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rcforlife Thefunstartshere Flyaways on the new DJI's are very few and I haven't had that issue with any of them. DJI packs a lot of features but can take a little to learn all the firmware updates and so on. The Yuneec Q500's are great and an easy bird to fly right out of the box but you won't get the video range that you have on the DJI P3 or Inspire1. The Blade 350QX's............ ah.......how about that Brett Favre..........hahahahaha

    Recently bought a Phantom 3 pro...Love it (even though I was not a fan of DJI). I'm really glad I went with this over the Yuneec 4k mostly because of the camera. And the range of this Phantom beats the poop out of Yuneecs range. Good video!

      Chris Stolle Yup, if you have "experience" the light bridge won't get you into trouble. But for new flyers or people starting out, I think the Q500 is a great platform and they won't outgrow it soon. Thanks for the post Chris!

Well, most important thing to remember is PURCHASE FROM A GOOD DEALER WHO WILL STAND BEHIND YOU! My dealer turned their back on me and left me hanging after spending THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS WITH THEM so I can tell you where NOT to buy your stuff!!!!! Just purchase directly from DJI and stay away from some of these distributors and if I find a GOOD one to recommend.......... I'll let you know. But I'm still looking myself!!!!!!!!!!!!! • @andrewandron7087
      @andrewandron7087 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr LKA The Phantom 3 Professional and the Phantom 3 Advanced use "Lightbridge". I have since flown my Phantom exactly 5 km from the base (over 17,000 feet) and then returned safely back.

    • @mrlka7520
      @mrlka7520 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Andron Droneguy So if both use LandBridge, what's the primary difference aside from cost of course? I'm trying to decide between the P3 Advanced & P3 Pro? Guessing, 4k camera on the Pro?

    • @andrewandron7087
      @andrewandron7087 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr LKA it's actually called "lightbridge", not "landbridge".
      The main difference between the 2, is the Advanced only has a 1080p camera (regular HD), but the Pro has a 4K (ultra hd) camera. If you don't have a 4K tv to watch your videos on and 4K video editing software or if you don't want to have the burden of having large video files you may as well go for the advanced. The only other difference is the battery charger is a little faster with the pro.

    Thanks Tony,
    So Inspire 1 made it out to 13,710 ft = 2.6 miles
    and Phantom 3 make it out to 15, 563 ft = 2.9 miles.
    Yes the range on the Lightbridge is impressive. It should be more than enough for most people's applications.

      Lino TheFilipino Hey Lino, we too went to the desert on Monday but the winds were so bad it was nuts! We ended up at a bluff over Silverwood Lake and I was the only one crazy enough to launch! My Inspire was doing 66mph out and flying sidways and completely stopped coming back! The flight data recorder is funny to watch because it shows me at full stick forward returning and the bird is flighting back and forth sideways across the map and pretty good clips. NOT good conditions to fly and I didn't even bother launching the P3, no way it would've made it back! Let me know the next time you guys go out.

My only concern was the battery, and when I landed it was at 4%. Not got for the battery, but a good distance test. Keep up the good video's and happy flying.

    One idea is to have some known landing areas pre-determined. This way if you run into trouble you can land at one of those locations that you know. Say you went out with a tail wind and were struggling to return in a head wind you would have a site you are familiar with to land away from people.

    • @rant-n-rave7816
      @rant-n-rave7816  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bearsuc .bearsuc That's why we have radio contact with guys on the ground. Good ideas, just not practical when you're out there. You know when you are flying if you are going to be pushing it on coming home with a head wind. Worst case would be for us just to touch down in an area where we can get to it and recover it. Thanks for watching Packer Fan!!!!!!! LOL!

      Drone Doctor
      The way I see it, if their customer service sucks as bad as I've heard everyone say it does, then maybe DJI NEEDS a little upsetting. Apparently they have no problem upsetting their customers, the people that have spent their hard-earned money with them. If merely speaking the truth upsets them, then it's THEIR problem, and that needs to be addressed by them in a major way.

    • @rant-n-rave7816

      They are improving but they have a lot of damage to recover from. Worst part is when the vendor whom you purchased THOUSANDS of dollars in DJI products turns their back on you like what happened to me! Noticed your screen said "Corona". Is that Corona CA.? I was born and raised there, lived on W. Hacienda a couple blocks from (and in-between) Vicentia Elementary, and Rainey Jr. High school. I went to both, as well as Corona HS (class of 1990). Have lived in Indianapolis since 1991, but went back a couple years ago and couldn't believe the hills I grew up playing in, as well as the orange groves off of Ontario are all houses now for as far as the eye can see. This is a good test. Iv always been curious to know this data. I think the phantom has more range coz its mostly plastic and has a smaller volume. So compared to the inspire, there are far less things to interfere with the signal.

      +Monte Olsen Thanks for watch and subscribing Monte. I also own the Advanced and Inspire1 Pro and the results are the same. I can tell you though the Inspire1 Pro does seem to have a little better connection for long distance but that could be just the way the stars line up for that day and location. Hi there. Nice video. You mentioned at the end you had spotters along the way. The spotters only help retrieve a fallen drone. AMA rules require you to have a spotter alongside of you to warn you of incoming airplanes and helicopters. Plus flying this far away is almost never a good idea. Also how are you actively communicating with your spotters?
    Nice video but flying that far and that high is almost certainly asking for trouble.

    • @rant-n-rave7816
      @rant-n-rave7816  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Sinor Thanks for the watching, giving the thumbs up and subscribing John! As for the antennas, just make sure you have them EXACTLY in an "11" like you can kind of see in my video. (Yes, I still had the plastic on the antennas, I used that to tell that transmitter apart from another I had) I tested the set up of the antennas over and over, I saw some tests people did on youtube for "best gain" and all kinds of CRAP and found the TRUE best range for me was a perfect "11" towards the bird. Any and I mean any deviation to that 11 will reduce your signal and don't put anything in front of them. Don't touch them either while you are way out or you will lose signal........... thanks again for watching John and hope that helped you out!

      +Lee Downey Follow......... if you use FPV it will allow more "flying" type views with banking and turns in your video. If you want it flat at all times, follow........ Play around with your settings and experiment. Remember, TH-cam is great, but many people put up bullshit that is either completely false, a trip to see how many suckers they can get, or just a dumbass trying to suck people into believing they are doing something spectacular that no one else can do or figure out. One of the reasons I started posting stuff long ago was because of all the DUMB videos and small talk I found in all the stuff on the tube. I just want the real info........ I don't want to know about who's mother's brother's monkey's uncle had to say about this or that....... just tell me what you found out in your review or get to the point........ as one old retired sea salt told me in an email, "No bullshit and I don't have to watch you go into some stupid Hollywood production like these other guys just to give out solid info, love it!" Excellent Video, thanks for going to the trouble. What would you say is your average "comfortable" operating distance?

    • @rant-n-rave7816
      @rant-n-rave7816  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jim Depends on many things including location Jim. When I'm using a Q5 or my Chroma in a wooded area I'm usually at 1000' or less because of how I use it. When I'm flying my P3 or Inspire1 Pro over water I can fan out 2500' or much more depending on what I'm shooting and the speed that the target is going. There are also some places that I've had to frame my photos of a great sunset or something like that and I had to get out 3k' to get there. It just depends on your location but "comfortable" really depends on a pilot's skills, equipment and needs for that particular event. There have been times I've flown in extreme winds that were blowing so hard my Inspire would not return at full throttle and was actually being pushed away from me as I tried to come home! At one point, the bird was actually going AWAY from me at 30mph while trying to come home! It was a crazy day over a lake and I decided to push my limits with it and it was really really dumb! I ended up dropping down to about 5' off the deck and flew around trees and hills to get back ducking in and out between the wind gusts! I never want to do it again! So when I hear "comfortable" that's a hard one to answer. Comfortable for me on that day should've been to stay home! Hahahahahaha! Thanks for the post Jim and thanks for watching!

    I have done a couple of tests with my P3A for range and found on the 1st test I was able to get out about 2.5 miles before I got the RTH warning for the battery I still had good signal though. The next test flight I made it 3.51 miles. This time I flew at a lower speed closer to what the RTH speed is (around 24 MPH) and I was able to make it the above distance. Also there was little to no wind that day....

    Question:
    Is the 15+k range in feet on the P3P in one direction or TOTAL flight to destination and then back home ? Thanks for doing these videos.

      Robert Carroll Yes, watch the end of the video and I go over the flight and it shows the 15k in one direction. Thanks for watching!
