- The time finally came to buy a drone. I got a deal that I couldn't pass up on a DJI Phantom 3 quadcopter. I intend to use it for fancy shots in my videos and, honestly, to have an awesome toy/hobby.

The drone does fly out 5km or for people in US 3miles which is pretty impressive since you can get live feed out that far.
Is it with range extenders?
Here it is 7 years later and I'm getting great value from your video. I was gifted a Phantom 3 Pro recently. It came from a Real Estate photographer who was retiring and wanted to pass on his quadcopter. I didn't know him. He was an amazingly generous man who said the drone paid for itself many times and he wanted to pass it on to someone who would appreciate it.
Circumstanced kept me from flying it for months. Today I am going to fly it for only the second time. It is a bit windy (within the numbers from DJI). I was waiting for a calmer day, but your video has encouraged me to give it a go.

Of all the DJI Phantom 3 videos I've seen here on TH-cam, yours, by far, is terrific! The clips, your verbal descriptions, your audio quality are all very high quality. You should be proud of yourself.

I bought this same copter about a year ago and never actually had the time to spend calibrating and learning to navigate...I know it sounds crazy but this very amateur friendly video inspired me to charge all 4 batteries and give it a go tomorrow. thanks so much for this fantastic review!

I'm apt to just jump in with this system... did you use post production software to stabilize the video, or is that right out of the camera as is? The Phantom 3 Pro is on sale right now... sooo... +Frederick Dunn Not buying a $30 Hubsan x4 and spending 20 minutes with it is an extremely stupid thing to do. You should ALWAYS start with a Hubsan or Nano QX or at least a Syma X4 to practice and learn the controls. It's definitely not a waste of time or money

Really great video man! I just ordered mine and should be here Tuesday! Dude! Great video! I've been thinking about DJI Phantom for some time (I'm currently learning on a cheaper drone). Your video absolutely clinched it for me. The Phantom Professional is what I've been looking for. I loved that you flew the drone in high winds, demoed a variety of camera angles, provided clear directions, and demoed the home feature. It really put my mind at ease. Thanks again. I can't wait to check out your other videos:)
Great video! I also just got a P3 Pro (cheap deal from a friend who upgraded to an Inspire for work...!) and am loving it. I haven't flown it without GPS yet but I have a feeling it will be a LOT easier to crash without GPS assistance....!!

Since I don't have that much money to buy a DJI Phantom, Im planning to buy a Syma X8c instead and I will change the camera on the drone cuz the 2MP camera it provides is absolute shit =)
Oh! I forgot to mention, the last two quad copters retail for just under $200, which I thought would do better than the $100 one! Some how, they always landed upside down and sooner or later the gyro would mess up and fly sideways instead of straight up. Good video, thanks. I subscribed!

3:29 What type of monitor is attached to the transmitter? I found a complete bundle kit but doesn't mention a monitor. Thanks.

+mrfloorguyz Yes, I figured it out thank you. Had to upgrade to a Galaxy S5 from an iPhone 4S though. It simply would not launch the DJI GO app - just a white screen and that was it.

Saw your scope stream, never realized how little the difference is between the phantom and inspire.
I really need to stress this. it's really important to know that despite it being easy to fly, it can go wrong. something like a hubsan x4 would make a good and fun tool to hone your skills.
I don't want to be that guy, I have a phantom and I love it, but a lot of people who buy a phantom without previous flight experience can make very severe mistakes. mistakes which can not only be a pretty big punch in you wallet, but ruin the hobby for everyone. I would be totally down to communicate with you more 1 on 1 if you have any questions about multi rotors and rc aircraft in general.
+Larocka totally agree and cannot be stressed enough. Invest $90 on a cheap quad and learn to fly that first. It helped me immensely. I can fly my cheap quad indoors room to room, down hallways and land anywhere. Very useful before graduating to my P3.
+Larocka most definitely, soo much better to lose a $100 or less toy than to lose an expensive piece of machinery. plus the small weight of a toy grade is much less dangerous if it losses battery and falls on someone or something. I think every major drone retailer should sell some sort of toy grade quad and recommend that as a trainer for the higher level stuff..... or even better, make some kind of package deal with both, so you have something fun to learn on first before even setting up your expensive one.
+johnni37 The other thing u can do is buy a simulator of ebay. it looks like a standard transmitter but plugs into your pc via USB. U can use any software then to start training. I did it with helis & fixed wing, works wonders 😊
+Roman Flachs thanks Roman. I know that dji also has a simulator as part of the dji go app. I am ashamed to say i haven't used it yet. Frankly my flying is severely limited to only when I'm up in the mountains. I live in an urban area and would never, ever use it here.

I believe this is actually a drone, at least from what I've read. The difference is a drone can be autonomous which the Phantom can be, while a quad is just a rc controlled device. Anyway, great video as usual man! Gotta get me one of these haha

It does not need much extra software & hardware to be a fully autonomous Drone. DJI tried to make manual flying easy by virtualising the controls of a automous drone. Phanton 2 onwards you dont realy have true manual control, the controls are interperated by software. That wind direction offset is an example of the software at work.
+Matt Gonzalez Quad refers to the number of propels, Quad-copter is anything with 4 propels. Whether it is autonomous or not. Military drones for example are also remote controlled.
The name is interchanged here and there but generally they are all drones.

Nice review video. I didn't read all of the comments below and not sure if it was mentioned, but wanted to point out that you didn't have the antennas on the controller pointed outward (like rabbit ears). I'm surprised you didn't have any reception/signal issues which could have had a bad outcome. Make sure to point those out before flying.
you can get carbon fiber aftermarket blades that really help with stabilization

Yeah! I mean, I'm building a quad right now. It's no drone, but if I gave it an extensive sensor suite, powerful processors, and programming to the point of nigh autonomy, it could be one. But until then it's just my "acrobatic ultra portable remotely controlled FPV enabled quadcopter," which if you ask me sounds cooler than "drone" anyways.

Awesome video and Information. I did not know that the DJI Phantom was so sophisticated. It almost has automatic pilot. I have two cheap Quadcopters. The Syma X8G and the JXD 509G. The Syma takes a lot of experience to fly.The JXD has automatic hover which makes it easier to fly. I am saving my money for a DJI Phantom 3 Professional. Thanks for posting a very in depth video.

I just noticed that your RC Transmitter antenna is not in the correct position. They must be parallel to the legs of the aircraft.
I have been wanting to get one but have read horror stories of the DJI Phantom 3 having a software glitch where it just takes off in mid flight and disappears never to be seen again. Apparently not even the automatic return to home feature has worked in these situations for the people that have lost theirs.

Hi, That was a nice presentation on the DJI Phantom 3. Just a few points I'd like to make. You never mentioned the orientation of the drone, which is how it knows where to return to. In fact, if you orient the Phantom, it will return to the last place you oriented it. So it you are travelling out t Denver and don't orient it out there, if it loses the control signal, it will try and fly home, to that parking lot. This is called a "Fly Away" and scares the hell out of everyone. The next point is the service that DJI provides. I've used it twice, and it is not quick, but they totally rebuilt my first drone for me. And then I bought a 'crashed drone on e-bay for almost nothing. When I called to get parts, they told me it was still in warrantee, and to send it back. I did, and 6 weeks later I received another fully rebuilt DJI crone that flew perfectly. I sold it for a nice profit on e-bay to a gentleman in Detroit. Last I heard it was still flying and he sends me videos every so often. It is a great hobby and I have been flying DJI droves or more than 3 years. The new ones are so stable that I never even think about crashing or fly a ways. Just saying.

I have a question about your Video settings? I noticed quite a difference between the initial video vividness and the closing video. p.s. I liked the closing video much better. Were you in Auto at all times and just different lighting or used Log vs. D-log etc. Thanks for a nice explanation of features.
My girl friend just bought me a drone. Its not a top end but if I lose it or break it I won't cry like a baby if I spent $2000 for one. It does not have a camera but gonna try and mount one to it. Got to figure out center of balance for it though.

I love this drone, but just to clear: A device does NOT have to be automatic for it to be a drone. While this device is a quadcopter it IS ALSO a drone. Drone is not being overused here, it is a correct definition. Drones are 'a remote-controlled pilotless aircraft or missile'.

You stated in this video that the P3P doesn't fly itself, You're wrong! The phantom 3 pro does fly it self in waypoint mode, you probably overlooked that. This feature was introduced couple of months ago. There are also third party apps that extend that feature even more. So yeah, you can call it a "drone" as well.

+Bitcommando Do you know if waypoint mode is an update or reserved only for the 3 Professional and 3 Advanced? I only saw it featured on those two machines and none of the others. Its something I would have to have and I was hoping the 3 Standard or another cheaper model had it. I also wish they would sell a higher end model at a discount and you supply your own camera, that would be for folks who already have a Go Pro. I also see DJI recommends the iPhone over a Tablet, not that a tablet can't be used, but I like the looks of the tablet more due to the screen size, my eyeballs aren't that good.
+John S Well, I answered one of my questions about using a tablet, it helps to review the video! Just seeing that convinces me the tablet size is the way to go. I know there are yahoos out there that cause bad laws to be written, but 400' max altitude? What fun is it now you can't take them up a couple thousand feet and look around, as long as you're not near an airport or common flight path. Dumb not to, but again stupid people equals stupid laws. If I had one and I was out in the middle of the desert I would certainly go as high as I could and besides the height restriction, limiting distance sucks donkey dicks too. It would be great to put it in waypoint mode and take a tour of around town or elsewhere, but you can't do that with the line of sight rule. All this kind of takes the desire to get one down a notch or three, I have second thoughts now. Just wait until some idiot pulls off something that hurts somebody with a quad, the reactionary politicians will be out in force if that happened and that would be the slippery slope where you will no longer get to fly it in urban areas. Somebody here made a point to refer to these as quads and not drones because most people will immediately call them dangerous if the word drone is used, thats how stupid most people are. Lastly, like many others have commented, I couldn't believe the video stability of the quad, was that real or somehow doctored later? I have never seen video that stable in the wind, even from larger quads. That was impressive. In the looks department, I still like the raw looks of the Storm models over the Phantoms, but of course to each his own.

Great video, just a quick question, I noticed that you can see the propellant in some shots, does this always happen when you moved forward or is it just a sudden tilt when you accelerate? Can you judge the cam down a bit so you don't catch the propelled in shot?

Where did you purchase it to get it for only a couple hundred more then the GoPro Hero Black? I would love to find a great deal on one but the DJI website has it st $1,259.
