I've been holding off buying my first drone for a year now. Air 3 ticked enough boxes that I went out and bought it. Loving it so far and only scratched the surface of its capabilities. Lots to learn.
Hi Darren, Another great video I like the way you tell it as it is, warts and all. It’s another learning curve for me v my Air 2S. What’s not to like? 2 cameras, cruise control - 360 obstacle avoidance - waypoints - occusync 4 - different Advanced Gimbal Settings to name a few. I am still finding the stick controls very sensitive to touch. Maybe I am heavy handed. The journey continues, have a great weekend. Regards Nigel G
I just purchased the DJI AIR 3 for my very first drone and absolutely love playing with all the features it offers. I don't have anything to compare it to but I absolutely love it.
Just got my Air 3 last week. Im brand new to drones and I'm blown away by the quality of the video and the performance. Mind you I only use my drone for fun recreation but I think it will be a very long time before I feel a need to upgrade to something else. The issues most people complain about are way over my level. @@beanbrewery my humble opinion, if you like to travel around the world, I think Mini 4 Pro will be more suitable as in many countries that no need formal licensing and extra courses need to be taken. Totally agree... I switched from the Air 2S to Air 3, and the Air 3 is simply awesome, love the pictures and video from it.. Everything in Air3 is just so fluid and intuitive :)
Thanks for acknowledging the stacked sensor and the advantages it comes with. So many people reviewing this camera stop at the sensor measurements, and fall WAY short of giving full credit for DJI's decision. Kudos to you.

I bought the Air 3, and I have to say, I'm loving it, quick if needed, very responsive, great picture and video, brilliant battery life and I've flown it a lot, and not had any signal issues. Yes, the camera is smaller, but it uses a superior technology so is actually better.🤛
I bought the Air 2 back in 2020. In 2021 the Air 2s was realised. Gutted was an understatement. Never going to fall for that old DJI trick again. I can guarantee as God makes little green apples in 2024 there will be a refresher Air 3 model that will have some arse kicking features. What they will be I'm sure you'll be making another splendid video on it 🤜
I feel slightly better knowning I wasn't the only one the fell foul of this. This is about £400 more than I paid for my air 2 which seems a little unreasonable
Agreed. I bought the Air 2 and it was good for me until I tried a friend's new Air 2s. I got the Air 2s over a year later. A few months ago a friend bought the Air 3 and it's great but I'm going to hold out for the Air 3s that will undoubtedly come out later this year. I've had 3 Sparks, 2 Mavic Pros, an Air 2 and Air 2s. Never bought a drone brand new, all mint condition second hand. The Air 3s maybe my first new drone.
My only concern, right now, is 'where is the CAA going' !! I'd love an Air 3 purely for the 70mm camera. I currently have a Mini 3 Pro and am perfectly happy with the results from that; and where I can fly it.
Here’s what I can’t figure out…the Remote has a mic and speaker, but I can’t figure out how to record my voice as a slate for the clips, or how to playback the audio. Ami I missing something?
One cannot mirror the screen to an alternative device? Unless I’m wrong many will not be buying the Air 3 for that reason alone, particularly if they have bought the RC Pro controller.
10:08 TH-cam dramatically decrease bitrate of any videos. However I can see that Air 3 has more sharpness on edges and more details. By the way I love Air 2s. Wanna Air 3 only with one but 8K cam. Second cam for zoming is good, but you can always "zoom in" during postproduction with 5.4K-8K but you never can "zoom out" from completed footage to fix something.
What is going to happen in low light? In comparison to the Air 2S? Comparison in the daytime really is going to be equal with any modern drone but low light is the one inch sensor an advantage?

Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 "Consumers series" (not Enterprise Series of course - Mavic 3E-3T-3M, there is no need of this) are compatible. Suddenly when goggles V2 production was terminated, an update was available (+/- two months ago) to use DJI FPV with goggles 2/Integra. Will we see the same kind of story with O3/O4 protocols?
I got my Air 3 a month ago and , while on a trip, have been using it in Colorado, north of Durango and Silverton. I have been using a Phantom 4 pro plus for over 7 years. The Air 3 completely solved the lack of reception I constantly experienced with the P4 pro, but I can't use my expensive Skyzone goggles with the Air 3 due to no HDMI port on the RC 2N controller. I hope DJI will come out with a controller with an HDMI port.
14:46 People keep forgetting that it's the same for all tech. New stuff keeps coming out like every day. I mean, that's why he makes these comparison videos in the first place, because new tech keeps coming out. So there won't be a newest drone, because new stuff will keep coming.
I just bought mini 3 non pro as my first drone and I’ll prolly upgrade when the launch the mini pro 4. I’ve still got much to learn. But having so much fun doing it.
That 3 non pro is one of the best bangs for you buck right now. I've been playing with one and it's surprising me. I love the Massive flight times with the plus batteries.
O4 and the RC2 are bonkers. The 70 mm lens is fantastic and I use it part of the time every time I fly the Air 3. I am keeping my Mini 2 and the Mini 3 Pro as they have important places for me. But the Air 3 is FANTASTIC. I feel like I have come a long way in my 75 years since making high-flying kites and spinning in circles with gas powered airplanes on a string in my youth. Thanks for your great work and advice, Darren. Cheers from Wisconsin, U.S.A. and fellow Yankee fan.
🤛 I recently upgraded to a Air 3 from a MA 2 my only complaint is the Pano’s and 360’s do not stitch together anywhere as good as the MA 2, any suggestions? They aren’t sharing quality 🤔
Can I control it with my voice yet. Having one that was compatible with Google assistant would be nice. It would make controlling follow me mode and circle mode with my voice a lot easier and keep that ugly remote out of my pictures and videos.
I own a Air 2s. So I don't really need to upgrade for now. But I think that dji should bring a firmware update for 2.7k vertical video. Since you can already do that if you crop 5.4K video ( and even have a little more pixels than 2.7K) , but even if they only make an overlay on the video feed to being able to compose knowing where the vertical video limits are.
When dji launched air3 I trashed them in comments like anything . Post your video I sold my mini 3 pro and upgraded to air 3 . The performance of it just slapped me for being wrong about DJI . There is drastic diff between mini 3 pro and air 3 in image quality . Low light is top notch and stable footages always no need to mind wind unlike mini 3 pro . Loved the new rc and battery package . Thank you so much for the review and sorry to DJI for wrong about you
Had my DJI Air 3 & RC 2 controller now about a week. Have yet to be able to go live on TH-cam with RTMP. My old Mavic 2 works perfectly in side by side test. Contacted DJI and they said they would get back with me. Anybody else having this issue?
I just realized neither the Mini 4 pro, nor the Air 3 have adjustable aperture. I have been thinking about getting a new drone coming from Mavic 2 pro, but I have to have adjustable aperture!
Thanks for the Video! Is there a chance that the DJI RC2 will be downward compatible to the Mjni 3 Pro and the Mavic 3? I would love to upgrade my DJI RC without buying the RC Pro.
Does the 48mp mode still suffer from the same chromatic aberrations and colour shifts as much as the mini 3 Pro? It'd be interesting to see seeing as they both use the same omnivision ov48c sensor.
The good and the bad... but the bad you talk about sound not bad at all. I'm thinking of upgrading from the mini 2 towards the air 3 instead of buying a mini 3 or 4 pro... what do you reckon
One thing about posting on social media like facebook, instagram, TikTok or Twitter is that you’re video quality is pretty much destroyed after uploading to the platforms so does it really matter that you have 4k or 5.4k footage and then the social media platforms reduce your quality down to 1080 p or 720p? That’s one issue I have when uploading to the social media platforms.
QUESTION: Im coming from the DJI Phantom 4pro and for the RC, I needed to plug in my cell. My cell would keep a copy of the video I would record at a lower quality, does this RC for the DJI Air 3 keep a lower quality video in it?
The Mavic 3 Pro will have the better camera quality from your current drone. Both drones will have massive improvements in literally every other area. It just depends what you use your drone for.
I think people are wound up at the mo there is so much going on about law changes with the caa until everyone knows about new laws and restrictions people won't buy it.i would be interested to see whether this is something you agree about
This issue you highlighted with the controllers is not new. I’m still using a Mavic 2 zoom with a pro controller. And the same thing happened when the new drones were launched. I bought a Mini 3 Pro and could not use the pro controller with that drone so have to carry both. I’m sure DJI could make the new controller at least work with the older drones, Microsoft work backward compatibility into their software for years. There’s no point spending extra money on expensive so called ‘pro’ controllers if they just abandon them after a year or two.
I am sort of landing still on the side in March of 2024 we will see an Air3s with a 1 inch sensor and a few up grades in software. Sort of like the air2 and air 2s. I waited on the mavic series for the classic to come out. Drones are two expensive to be buy 2 to 4 models of each series. You basically got to wait till the one that fits comes out. I will keep using my mavic classic and air 2s until the air3s comes up. Again I think probably March of 2024 maybe or summer of next year.
Picked up the mini 3 pro - it’s now dropped to £700 - I’ve learnt to wait. I noticed footage I did on my mini 2 - tbh it’s so subtle for most things and I’m having a lot a fun. It’s raining again in the U.K. so I’ve hardly been able to get out and use the mini anyway.
I’ve watched some videos reviewing this drone and I haven’t heard any of these specific complains is he being honest or just trying to get traffic for ad revenue you know if that question comes to mind probably is the latter
Ok look guys… I NEED HELP… I have the money for the Mavic 3 classic… and have the money for air 3! What do I get? I don’t care about the zoom as I am happy with the 2x on the Mavic 3 classic. What one do I buy? Help me decide!!! Please!!!! 🙏 also if I’m using the filters on the air 3 is it then better then the classic??
I have both the Air 2s with the RC Pro controller and new Air 3 with RC 2. One bummer not mentioned is that you can not fly with ANY third party apps with this setup. The new RC 2 controller does not give you access to browse out on the internet and load third party apps. You would have to use your phone with the RC 2N to get access to apps, and once you fly without your phone you won't go back. With all that being said, the flight time, the 70mm lens, the extra sensors and the range are all worth it! The Air 3 has some compromise for sure, but overall, it's a step forward for sure.
You can use vertical pano to do vertical photo which is likely to have pixels. Im also not bothered about vertical more shooting 4:3 and framing your shot you’ll be fine.
Can you please give the RC2 a test with a usb c to hdmi port? I saw a photo taken on an air 3 fb group that a guy used the RC2 with a usb c to hdmi adaptor and it apparently worked. I do still believe its fake... Bad can you please just give it a test? And maybe search a bit in the settings if there's something to be found? (like for fpv goggles and rc pro you need to enable fpv mode on the rc pro)
what a fantastic and well put together channel you have , i look forward to the next video you put out every time. but before it gets to late can you please make a short video about what happened and where dose the Mavic 3 fit in to the DJI line up now. i Managed to pick one up just as they were discontinued but i dont understand why. was it because the Air 3 was on its way if so why ? id love to hear your thoughts on this. keep up the amazing work you do.
I've been perfectly happy with my Mini 3 Pro but in time a few weaknesses showed - I love shooting longer focal lengths so always wanted the tele lens of the Mavic but the whole package was overkill for me. The Mini 3 does move around a fair bit in even light wind & it was lacking waypoints and some of the other useful shooting modes. The Air 3 ticks all the right boxes & has turned out to be the perfect upgrade. It's SO much more stable in wind, the extra speed is really useful (especially the descend speed) and the quality of the footage is definitely better and I find it much nicer to grade and more flexible in post. People like to harp on about the sensor size (which has become the new "megapixels" spec warrior moment) but the quality is definitely improved over the Mini 3 sensor. The stacked tech is a lot better in low light and very pleasantly surprised at how much better it is.
Hey man, I've decided to get a drone, but I'm debating between the Dji Air 3 and the Dji Mini 3 Pro. I found your comment helpful and I will really appreciate it if you could share some more feedback between the two.
Doing vertical in photos would make no sense whatsoever. When it records that tall vertical video it's using the full height of the sensor, instead of cropping off the top and bottom as it does in normal video mode. When you are taking photos it already uses the full sensor. So you are already taking "vertical" photos, except you have the left and right of the frame included as well. So just crop it to vertical when you post it and you will be getting the exact same result as what you are asking for.
Also, Freewell now has the split ND filters which are way better because now you can get equal exposures instead of the tele always being underexposed by about 1 stop.
Thanks for this, I'm still undecided if I should get the fly more package of this or keep saving for the mavic 3 pro, I'm currently on a mavic pro platinum that's getting up there in mileage and wanted to upgrade.
Finally.we potential buyers would like an honest assessment like this instead of biased youtube videos. Would anyone will buy this when they know there will be another s version in few months with 1 inch sensor? I think youtube is becoming false advertisement portal for companies. Please call it when its not up-to the mark.
I'm tempted...checks a lot of boxes for me. Had to pause when I saw what looks to me like video of Lagos Portugal. Was just there last spring. Lovely! :)
It's a great drone but really sad that the camera in 2.7k only show a vertical view only not a wide shot like all there other drones they have really poor choice they could of made it wide and vertical don't always like recording at 4k or 1080p and is this drone remote ID compliant not show on the FAA compliance list
As a Mini 3 pro user I feel it's decent stability is a big issue when you try for long exposure or Hyperlapse it's worse . Air3 always have upper hand over it
I've had the opportunity to download some vid clips/pics from the Air 3. Straight off the bird, I've been pixel peeping and comparing to some of the lesser drones. Guess what, The little Nano+ is just as good as the Air3. It might not have several things that I just don't need. But I'll Not be getting an Air3. I'll wait and see what a Mini 4 might bring to the equation. I honestly use my Non Pro Mini 3 the most, 40 minutes average calm flight times.
Can you please test something for me. If your RC2 is on cini mode when you power on drone or change battery does the drone start up in normal mode even though switch is on cinematic mode. I have to go to normal and back again. Is it mine only? Thank you in advance friend.
The Mavic 3 Classic has a better main sensor. It uses the same Hasselblad camera of the Mavic 3 Pro. However, it doesn't feature the 3x tele lens. It depends what parts matter to you.
6:40 do you think what you mentioned is going to come for the air 3? Sucks that it is missing stuff like that as it's important for someone like me to have. What's your thoughts on this?
Vertical video format is almost exclusively for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook/TH-cam shorts, which will be viewed on mobile phones. Why would you need 4K for that?
As a professional I can see the difference between the two. The Air2S footage is slightly better because the Air3 looks too sharp and action camera like. Although low light etc, is way better on the A3 most people fly in daylight conditions. While all other features are much improved as well as the new camera, at the end of the day video quality is what makes the difference. yes so many are waiting on a possible Air3 Pro. I think a lot of the push back comes because channels like yours are obviously trying to sell the product to consumers by trying to convince us why this product is the next best thing.
I have been flying a Spark for a few years and upgraded to Air 3 just weeks ago. My hands were literally shaking when I had my first flight as my dollars were high up in the sky with no insurance 😂 But needless to say, that thing is a beast. It's powerful, quiet and really flies! I am just hoping to make good use of it for years to come.
Given the immediate negativity towards the Air 3 in its first few weeks and even before then from the content creators I held back buying one. Compared to the Mini 3 Pro the Air 3 is a beast and sufficient a step up for my needs - especially at the price. I think DJI nailed it in the cost vs specs vs target audience and if you want the new RC 2 then you'll just have to wait for it 🤣
Has DJI ever taken a step backwards when making drones. I suspect this stacked sensor is kind of like a prototype for whats to come, imagine the research they must be doing. I am sure any drone from here on will be awesome (as everything thus far). For me any current drone would be a huge upgrade to my air 1. Way pionts and 360 dec. sensors sold me on the air 3. The rotating camera.. couldn`t care less about it. so for me it`s perfect. Just got mine, maiden flight this weekend.
thanks for a great honest review. I still fly the air 2 and was considering getting the air 3 which i was being put off by negative comments ,but after watching this I am going ahead and look forward to some great shots👊

Had my DJI Air 3 & RC 2 controller now about a week. Have yet to be able to go live on TH-cam with RTMP. My old Mavic 2 works perfectly in side by side test. Contacted DJI and they said they would get back with me. Anybody else having this issue?
Maybe they will bring out a ma3s??
I want the ma3 though!!! But what am i to do with my ma2?? 😅
I just realized neither the Mini 4 pro, nor the Air 3 have adjustable aperture. I have been thinking about getting a new drone coming from Mavic 2 pro, but I have to have adjustable aperture!
What about a mini 4 pro?
Thanks for the Video! Is there a chance that the DJI RC2 will be downward compatible to the Mjni 3 Pro and the Mavic 3?
I would love to upgrade my DJI RC without buying the RC Pro.
So do we see the RC Pro 2??
I wondered that when I ordered the air 3 so I bought the rc-n2.
Hoping for a Mini 4 Pro weighing under 250 grams with Oc4 and the new controller.
Really great videos on the Air 3 and Mini 4, very useful as someone coming new to the drone world.
Glad you think so! Thank you
Does the 48mp mode still suffer from the same chromatic aberrations and colour shifts as much as the mini 3 Pro? It'd be interesting to see seeing as they both use the same omnivision ov48c sensor.
Is Air3 and Mavic3 battery compatible?
The good and the bad... but the bad you talk about sound not bad at all. I'm thinking of upgrading from the mini 2 towards the air 3 instead of buying a mini 3 or 4 pro... what do you reckon
Absolutely, the 3X optical zoom, wind resistance and overall speed of the Air 3 is what made me choose it. It's a phenomenal drone for its price
Hello. Do you know if the proximity sensors can be disable like on the Mavic Zoom? Thanks.
QUESTION: Im coming from the DJI Phantom 4pro and for the RC, I needed to plug in my cell. My cell would keep a copy of the video I would record at a lower quality, does this RC for the DJI Air 3 keep a lower quality video in it?
Isn't it being sold with the RC pro as an option?
How does the mini 4 pro compare? 😉😊🤐
I have an original Mavic Pro, should i upgrade to the Air 3 or the Mavi 3 pro ? what will be the bigger improvement from what i have ?
The Mavic 3 Pro will have the better camera quality from your current drone. Both drones will have massive improvements in literally every other area. It just depends what you use your drone for.
Great review, I have a Mavic 2 zoom and the controller needs a battery is there any better controller that I could buy to replace the original one?
The RC2 controller _should_ have been backwards compatible with the OS3 protocol (to allow it to work with older drones).
Please!!!! 🙏 also if I’m using the filters on the air 3 is it then better then the classic??
you told once that mini3 pro is end of dji drones. Get mini 3 pro or Inspire 3. There is no middle i think
Also you can visually see the difference between Air 2 S and Air 3. Much more clarity with Air 3
👊🏼
I Have the mini 3 pro and will be looking at the Air 3 In the new year it looks to be a quality drone for the price point and ideal for the hobbyist.
Mini 4 pro or air 3 , I want to record events parties etc and take pictures videos . Which one guys
Thanks, I appreciate the review. I think I’ll get one and give it a try!
Darren just bought your Air 3 luts package, what editing software do you use for your videos?
Also I used to be-able to login to see all the luts packages I bought from you but can not find the login page now
Hey I use Final Cut Pro, resolve is also great , luts work great on any of the major video editors , you will find the download link on your email 😊
Thanks for this, I'm still undecided if I should get the fly more package of this or keep saving for the mavic 3 pro, I'm currently on a mavic pro platinum that's getting up there in mileage and wanted to upgrade.
Love the Air 3. Only thing I miss is my RC pro connected to it.
Same
What is c1 level ?
Finally.we potential buyers would like an honest assessment like this instead of biased youtube videos. Would anyone will buy this when they know there will be another s version in few months with 1 inch sensor? I think youtube is becoming false advertisement portal for companies. Please call it when its not up-to the mark.
I'm tempted...checks a lot of boxes for me. Had to pause when I saw what looks to me like video of Lagos Portugal. Was just there last spring. Lovely! :)
Sure is a great place
It's a great drone but really sad that the camera in 2.7k only show a vertical view only not a wide shot like all there other drones they have really poor choice they could of made it wide and vertical don't always like recording at 4k or 1080p and is this drone remote ID compliant not show on the FAA compliance list
As a Mini 3 pro user I feel it's decent stability is a big issue when you try for long exposure or Hyperlapse it's worse . Air3 always have upper hand over it
Difference in the shadows. 3 lighter. without blowing up. played one of your great vids on 65 in led cheapo tv, and then the differences accentuate.
Noticed you were flying in formentor near port de pollenca super cool views
Stunning area
Best point you mentioned, the F stops. Definitely needs ND filters. If only it's included in the FM package
Which would you prefer for photography air3 or mavic classic 3?
The Mavic 3 Classic has a better main sensor. It uses the same Hasselblad camera of the Mavic 3 Pro. However, it doesn't feature the 3x tele lens. It depends what parts matter to you.
6:40 do you think what you mentioned is going to come for the air 3? Sucks that it is missing stuff like that as it's important for someone like me to have. What's your thoughts on this?
Most smart phones don't have 4k displays so i don't see 2.7k being an issue for vertical
Vertical video format is almost exclusively for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook/TH-cam shorts, which will be viewed on mobile phones. Why would you need 4K for that?
I love the features of the air 3. Once I familiarize myself better with its features, I’ll check out your products. Keep up the good work!
It's a nice drone, but why get it when you have an Air 2 S and your budget is limited?
Really enjoying all of your videos Darren. Thank you for the excellent, balanced advice you give. 👊
It’s a pleasure thank you
I bought the Air 3 a couple of days ago. Waiting for it to arrive!
Excellent perspective on the lineup! Thanks!
My pleasure!
I think DJI nailed it in the cost vs specs vs target audience and if you want the new RC 2 then you'll just have to wait for it 🤣
Spot on
As someone with an original Mavic Air, I'm looking at the Air 3 as a decent replacement! 👊
