nice case study analysis but renovation itself could help in tourist retention as well as - we can collaborate with tours and travel companies (MMT), and ease of checking-in timing can be provided as all other hotels have a standard time usually

I think a different approach for this would be
Increase the cost of rooms for business persons from 180dollars to 210 dollars and simultaneously decrease the cost of the tourists from 160 to 155 dollars.
This might increase the revenue directly from the business customers while by decreasing the cost for the tourists would increase the occupancy which might definitely increase the revenue(indirectly).
    Is this a valid approach??

there is no one valid approach to a case. The interviewers and interviewee drive the case. However you could always ask the question that is the hotel willing to decrease the price for one set of customers due to subsequent increase for the other set.

Isn't the structure more inclined towards market entry rather than profitability?

first of all, if they are doing a major renovation, couldn't they be attracting more customers! there must be a strong reason behind the renovation... maybe the hotel was dingy. why the conclusion that customers would drop? a market analysis should be done to arrive at the conclusion whether occupancy would fall. this is completely missing here
secondly, at 15 minutes, the new occupancy would be 63%.
20% of customers are tourists, which fall by 50%
    occupancy is 70%.
    so drop is 20%*50%*70% = 7%
at 18:33, shouldn't they be calculating the change in revenue in value added services! that would change the new revenues even further..

The approach in itself could have been definitely better. The candidate directly jumped into calculating revenue rather than investigating the reason for increasing the tariff.

Dam dude talk up! And verbally communicate the numbers your calculating, some of us do come to these channels to apply the things we are learning.
