    What other questions do you have about the 2021 Jeep Gladiator Diesel?

    I appreciate the video. Picked up a JLU Rubicon Ecodiesel last week and the milage is 26.1 after driving from Denver to Breckenridge and back (5280ft => 10090ft elevation) and some driving around town. I am extremely impressed with this engine after three years with the Pentastar 3.6.

    The best Real World review I've seen on Gladiator with 40" tires. Great job! Definitely subscribing. I'm trying to order a Silver Rubicon Diesel Gladiator and waiting on them to release the color (they put a temp hold on it the dealer said smh) and then I'm putting the 6.5" EVO Lift with 42" tires trying to decide what wheel size. I like the look of the 22 and 24's but it destroys a lot of off road capability and I'm not for that so thinking about a compromise and get 20 x 14 anyway. Thanks for the review it was great

      Bryce you are only going to increase your center of gravity by going with a lift that tall. High Clearance flares and a 4.5” lift will clear 42’s all day long. Check out Rock Krawler they have a bolt on suspension that has quad rate rear springs and is triangulated.

    When you talked about that pedal lag, as a trucker I can really understand what that’s like. Now can everyone else try to understand this same concept for semi trucks, only add a giant heavy trailer to the equation too. Just found your channel, I’m interested in the axel questions too. I’m still deciding if I want the gas or diesel, as a trucker diesel scares me a little I know how expensive exhaust problems can be.

    • @MaxOverland

    Is your speedometer corrected for the tire size change?
    I have a '16 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel. And have only a mild 2" lift, upgraded shocks, 33" tires, Flowmaster exhaust, and the Bank's intake system. The diesel is the best offroad. And awesome on mountain highways. Worst fuel economy was 20mpg. Best was in the 40's. I don't count the time that tailwinds gave me 52mpg @ 50mph. The Western states are my playground. And the Ecodiesel has the best manners driving on icy or snowy roads. Never been stuck, even though the truck has open diffs.
    I am considering an Ecodiesel Gladiator or Wrangler. The Gladiator just screams for a major lift and at least 37" tires. Your 40's look very good. But for decent articlulation. A greater lift seems to be needed. I have a '97 Jeep ZJ project vehicle for the really rough stuff.
    The fuel economy numbers you stated are kind of low. And if your speedometer has not been recalibrated. And are probably way off. If I do buy a Gladiator or Wrangler. If I do buy a Gladiator and install the tires it screams for. I would regear for the stock rpm @ 70mph. Even if the diesel acts happy.

      To my knowledge you can only get 373 gears from the factory for a diesel. So you will have to upgrade gears later. I’d wait tho, my diesel had 40’s on it. Once I turned it. It was a beast. So I bet you will be happy with the 373 and 38’s.

    I just keep going back and forth, is a diesel worth the extra 4-6K over the 3.6L? It would take years to break even. I tow a lot so a diesel would definitely be my first choice.

    • @MaxOverland
      @MaxOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Being that I have owned both. Diesel 100% hands down over the 3.6L. I’m getting 20mpg on 40’s. Best I have got with the gas was 17 down hill with wind behind me LOL. Average was around 11-12 with 5.13 gears.

    The eco diesel can pull more than the gas version (capability wise). But Dodge put that engine into the small Jeep enclosure and they're scared it will overheat. Time for Jeep engineers to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to keep the engine cool then it should be Able to tow 8-10k lbs

      It’s mostly personal preference. If you like speed and hard acceleration like I do. I would change out the gears. But if you’re just overlanding, daily driving. You might be able to get away with keeping them. Put them on and test it for yourself. If you have the diesel. You will 100% be good to go. If you have the gasoline engine me personally I would upgrade gears.

      Was the mpg suffer from 37s with mopar lift vs 35s with molar lift on the diesel? I’m picking an eco diesel up this month and will be towing a small fishing boat. I would love 37s but not sure if it will affect the towing without re gearing. I also want to go wheeling with my family so not sure if the 37s will break the axle while wheeling.
