It's simple. Eddie knew he couldn't control Cips. If you don't conform absolutely there's no place for you in Eddie's team. He's a control freak, self confessed.

At times the best player in the competition. Good fella and hard worker. I was once sat behind the posts in NZ watching the All Blacks vs England test that he came on as a sub for. He injected pace to the game, but then for some reason chucked the ball to a large blindside area where a prop was stood by himself. Prop soon got turned over and Retallick made a hell of a run at the end of which the ABs scored a winning try. As a lone Englishman living in NZ and battling the arrogance of kiwi sports fans, I'll never forgive this moment of madness 😂
Danny's dangerous because he's candid, very much like Care; whom I'm surprised was given a second shot by Jones after criticising him for the 2018 Japan fixture.
Im not a DC hater - far from it - I think that he could have been a legendary player. But as I've seen his career progress the simple fact is that he was given a chance by multiple coaches...and then rejected by those same coaches. I'm not going to put any weight on the various news articles we've all read about DC's off-field activities...but neither am I going to listen to his 'I'm a victim' narrative. He obviously displayed mannerisms to a number of coaches that meant he never found a stable home. Everyone knows there are creative and talented players in every sport who cant be managed in the same way as a the majority. But its still a 2-way street...I'm sure coaches gave DC leeway but I cant help but think he didn't return that favour by shifting his own actions and views. Ultimately there has been only one loser. DC himself. He could have been as good as another DC IMO...the GOAT...but while the GOAT DC will go down in history, this DC will hardly be remembered - and that is a real shame.
Cipriani wasn't picked by a few England coaches, not just Jones. Cipriani problem is that he couldn't grow the hell up and mature. He's not the sharpest tool in the box.
There was always that stigma of being a party boy, when lancaster was in charge? Then heading off to Australia. And perhaps being a bit too frank and open with his opinions, but that’s his way and fair enough. Personally i think Cipriani was very similar to Finn Russell and it’s such a shame he didn’t have the right coach that he could have flourished under. He was a very natural 10, absolutely lethal in open play and great kicking. Post Wilkinson he would have been a much more exciting attacking threat than Ford or Farrell, that’s why everyone wants to see Marcus Smith succeed, similar exciting attacking traits
He was overseas during Lancaster’s time, but Lancaster did speak to him and encouraged him to come back to England, if Lancaster had stayed then I think Cipriani would have been given a shot.
@@Powerofmorris84 nope, he as with Lancaster for the NZ tour 2014 and then in the 6Ns 2015 and then was not picked for the WC 2015..so are you saying he would have even more chances than the ones he received?
It’s tricky because for the purists watching Danny is like watching the Fijians play 7’s but you can’t really argue with an 83% win record - (Unless you’re a journalist)
Great on his day. Too few of them. And for some reason clubs didn’t want to hold onto him, which speaks volumes of his character. A legend in his own lunch time who will soon be forgotten. Shame because he could have been a great.
Have Rugbypass nicked Good Bad Rugby's studio? ;) I think Cipriani not playing for England more is a massive shame considering his talent. Some of it is self inflicted and others because he was not given the chances. He spoke really well here.
The problem with Cipriani was and perhaps still is that he is an idiot. The Rebels couldn't have pushed him out the door quickly enough he was that bad and he was a nightmare away from rugby as well. All well and good carving up teams that can't defend in the Premiership but it's a different story at international level where most good teams can defend and your flyhalf needs to be a smart operator who knows how to pull the right lever at the right time. Unfortunately for Cipriani, he's the kind of player who would chip over the top and squander possession when a simple draw and pass was the right option. A luxury player if there ever was one, and seriously, why on earth would Eddie Jones have ever picked him for the world cup ahead of Ford or Farrell?
Cipriani is just hurt that he wasn't treated like a celebrity and have everyone bend over for him. If he learnt to play for the team maybe than himself he'd have had a better chance.
But Danni started getting selected, had his opportunity but then he got arrested a week later... can't be doing that. Unfortunate but true. When do you see a Ford or farrell getting arrested?

As an Irish fan looking in on England it was abundantly clear that Eddie Jones sucked the joy out of playing for England. The contrast with Ireland and Farrell is stark. We had a similar experience with our previous authoritariam coach... who brought a good win/loss ratio but no joy.
not an Eddie fan .. he is my way - or the highway - look what he did not do at the Reds .. SA saved his arse winning a world cup ..with him as a consultant.
Cips needs to finish his career at Perpignan, in the sun, with Shaun just up the road to guide him through the last couple of years. Perpignan have just lost their 10 to racing, and cips would be loved there.
Successful teams win with high percentages of success. No room for naive self interest. No I in team. Danny doesn’t listen too well and the panel is watching him thinking I get why you didn’t fit in. It’s just how life is with social climbing types moving up and mavericks quite often being a target.
i went to watch the Melbourne Rebels one time, early in their life, the big buzz was for one Danny Cipriani, we all wanted to know if he could spark the underperforming team into life... ... a clearly overweight and ponderous danny celebrated a team try with a daft dance - he most nimble movement of the night - then tried a chip-and-gather on his OWN GOAL LINE and coughed up possession, gifting the opponents a try. He probably missed a try saving tackle or something equally heinous in addition. He was an embarrassment. I love standout characters like Danny...they make rugby !
I'll miss Eddie but I never understood his decision to not select Cipriani - such a creative player who shouldn't be sidelined.
Coaches would rather pick the guy who’s a 7/10 every game rather than the guy who’s a 10 one week and a 4 another week ie. Owen Farrell.
I agree . Cipriani was a genius and excluding him was a huge error given the pedestrian stand off s that were chosen
The problem was the legal cases he got dragged into, made him vulnerable.
