  • This is Up Front with Simon Jordan. A show brought to you by William Hill that pulls no punches and tells it EXACTLY like it is.
Eddie Jones is one of the most recognisable coaches on the international rugby stage. Having coached his native Australia, Japan and of course England, where he won multiple Six Nations titles and reached a World Cup final in 2019.
Known for his tough coaching methods, his controversial statements and his unwavering commitment to excellence, Eddie Jones is one of the game’s great characters. He joined the show on Friday 27th October, two days before he announced his resignation from his position as Head Coach of Australia. This hour long conversation gives an insight into his state of mind ahead of that big decision...

Fantastic episode as always. I’ve always really liked Eddie Jones and I think what you see is what you get with him. He’s stayed true to himself throughout his career and it takes a big man to admit when they haven’t got it right. Simon’s style just makes them open up and it is brilliant! Keep em coming

Everything Eddie has said about what he tried to achieve, sums up Exactly what Rassie and Nienaber achieved with the Springboks. Except the South African coaching staff, not only achieved it but proved their excellence. No player felt slighted because they were replaced. They, the Saffas, were given another stab at the world cup and Eddie as not supported by England. Leaving England in a quandary and then Aussie rugby decided to change tack, appoint Eddie at the loss of continuity that Rennie offered.
The “Aussie Eddie project” should always have been the 2027 world cup.
Rugby world cups are one in the board room. Waugh seems an inspirational choice as president.

Guy is well loved in the squad because of his transparency & how they deal individually with players. There probably isn’t anyone else other than Razor with that type of man management. Plus see for yourself how tight the entire squad is, even look at behind the scenes currently and on social media. When Rassie took over in 2018, he did away with A & B teams and probably built the best depth in international rugby. He wanted transparency & did away with racial quotas. The squad is made up of 33 people all from varying and many from vastly different backgrounds, different languages and contexts etc yet they were all able to pull in for one common goal beyond the divide.

When he talked I was silent as he had a way which inspired me and made me believe in away which is difficult to explain but sadly over time his magic and his words lost me, what could have been is still my thoughts and i struggle now to see where he can go and achieve what he set out for.

It's such a shame England got rid of Eddie when they did, he always has a plan for the RWC and think he could've made England contenders if they'd have had the bottle to hold on
Sadly he didn't fit the red trouser brigade mould

Exactly when was this filmed? Eddie obviously quit the Aus role a couple of days ago. He is clearly being economical with the truth in regards to his future. Overall I do like him, but I think he needs a break from coaching. He lost the plot with England with crazy and poor selections. Same just happened with Aus.

Eddie Jones conned Australia - he was fired by England , didn't have a job - knew that Japan had a head coach opening at the end of this year so promised Austrlia Rugby this amazing thing he would do - he had no intention to succeed he planned to fail so he could exit after the world cup and take a lucrative Japanes contract - hopefully Japan has seen he is a charlatan
Eddie Jone - 9 games summary as head coach of Australia in 2023
7 losses out of 9 games
    Yellow cards - Australia 9
    Yellow cards - Opposition 4
Penalty tries conceded - Australia 2
Penalty tries conceded - Opposition 0
World Ranking before Eddie took over 6th - current world ranking 9th
    Points for Australia - 160
    Points against Australia - 229

And the bloke is notoriously the most dictatorial coach around. Changes the game plan on these young blokes every week with the threat of being dropped or hooked after 38 minutes if they go off script. Then has the gall to complain that players don’t play what’s in front of them anymore. One sentence the sky is blue, the next it’s red with this bloke.

He had them winning 10 in a row against Australia (pretty sweet revenge after the aussies kicked them out of their own 2015 world cup).
He also had them undefeated in 18 games, which is pretty much as good as the run Ireland just enjoyed.
Best ranked team in the world for a time.
