    Your educational action is commendable but a rule in perfumery is that we first weigh the solids and then incorporate the liquids.

    • @avamaria8447
      @avamaria8447 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      why would it matter which one is weighed first?

    • @Whiffly
      @Whiffly  ปีที่แล้ว

      Liquids have a higher evaporation rate, this is also why we add our top note ingredients last before capping and aging our blends to allow a fixation effect to take place.

    Hey Alex, awesome video as always! I have heard from a few perfumers on forums that diluting with alcohol will stop your overall fragrance from "maturing". I can't find any reliable scientific reasoning for this, so I'm skeptical. Any thoughts or knowledge on this?

    Nice VIdeo!
    I was trying to mimic a "MOlecule 02" and diluted Ambermor (IFF Ambroxan) in 10% grain alcohol. BUT, after diluted and when applied over my skin, it got a “plastic” texture (not oily, as the most of fragrance feels over skin)!
    After a few minutes, started to crack over my skin!
    Is there anything else to dilute and help to bind with the skin and helps on longevity? Or, if i let macerate for a few weeks this could help with bind with my skin?
    Thank you!

How do you feel about pheromones and do you think that this Ambroxan crystal powder will work will with oils or do you reccomend the alcohol. where did you get your gram scale and where did you get your ambroxan from? also do you know where i can buy some authentic agarwood? Hi Alex- you didnt show the math?? I saw your answer - 1.58 grams, but how to you get it- 79% of 2 ml? Thank you! I like natural resins too for perfumes :)

    • @Whiffly
      @Whiffly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Always measure your ingredients by weight and not volume. For example, 1mL of ethanol will weight less than 1g so I simply input the conversion into Google Search "79 Percent of 2" and that gives us 1.58g 🙂 Hope this helps!

    Hi i find when i dilute with perfumers alcohol, it is soluble then after a couple of weeks it turns back to Crystals, is this maybe because some alcohol has evaporated?

    • @Whiffly
      @Whiffly  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I find that this happens with some of my solutions as well especially with Maltol Crystals, Celestolide, and Rose Crystals. I've found that some ingredients need less material to remain dissolved. 3% opposed to 10% for example.

    sir can i ask you,what will be the physical state of that after the amboxan has melted,is it oily or liquid state?what is the exact usage of that,are we goin to add it that diluted ambroxan in our mixed fragrance oil or add it in the whole perfume with alchol,water and dpg?thank you so much🙏

    • @Whiffly
      @Whiffly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never melted Ambroxan Crystal on its own. The recommended usage is 1% of your total concentration but has been used successfully in higher concentrations in other perfumes. Sometimes I'll use a 10% Alcohol Solution in my blends, but I like to use the raw material most of the time. You'll add this ingredient with your other ingredients during the blending process. Whether you use raw ingredients or a solution is up to you 🙂

      @@Whiffly sir im confused with the term for example ambroxan 10% in dpg,and the maximum usage is 10%?what does it mean,or can we dilute the ambroxan with 1:1 ratio like 1gram ambrox 1ml ethanol?

    • @Whiffly
      @Whiffly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can dilute it further if you'd like. It means that in your entire vial, there is 10% Ambroxan and 90% DPG. If you used half of that entire solution, it would amount to 5% Ambroxan. This is where a bit of math comes in because you have 5% Ambroxan 95% DPG and the conversion will come with the next variable you use (more DPG or Alcohol).

    How much alcohol do you add to the crystals? Is it the same as a dilution with liquids?

    • @Whiffly
      @Whiffly  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's situational. Some ingredients won't fully dissolve at a 10% solution like Maltol Crystals and Rose Crystals. I usually create a 1-3% solution for these. Other ingredients are much more forgiving like Vanillin & Ambroxan Crystals that can be diluted at higher percentages.

      Absolutely! It dissolves in DPG, and I believe other oils like Jojoba and fractionated coconut oil. If you're having troubles dissolving the Ambroxan, you can lightly heat the oil and it'll become more soluble.

      @prestonkathryncampbell1675 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the same thing, then realized I'd rather have it in ethanol so I just ordered some crystals too. I don't like using DPG in my fragrances. Supposedly if you go over ~13% ambroxan (in any solvent, as far as I have read) it will crystallize some. Most people seem to go with a 10% concentration, probably just because it's a familiar usage and dilution in the field. Ethanol works well, but I am also a fan of making my dilutions in TEC. TEC is fine for fragrance or flavor applications and is often employed for hard-to-dissolve substances. It works in sprayers also, although it can be hard on some softer plastics. If you're just using it for a diluent rather than the major fragrance solvent, it shouldn't be a problem. And it is natural in origin, which I like.
