freaking amazing, I was just planning on doing a timing chain replacement with my dad on my genesis coupe in the next few months, your videos are such a godsend. I think I might give my valve cover a nice metallic red paint while its off too, get rid of that bland black plastic look!
Hey man, just watching your vid now, what if my chain doesn’t have any marks? I’ve got the two top cars lined up but can’t line up the crankshaft because i have no guide on the actual chain itself
@@zackhepler1518 I just used the guides on the cams and then for the chain i ended up using the dots that are engraved in the link and it should be either two or one dot on the link
I'm just doing the timing cover does the valve cover need to come off? Also do you have a video replacing the water pump? I'm pretty sure its straight forward but I wanted to know if I have to flush the system after installing a new water pump since air may get into the system.
Is it normal that after doing a couple rotations by hand that the 3 gold links don’t line up with the dots on each gear anymore? Just did my girlfriends car haven’t ran it yet but the 3 lines are lined up but after a few rotations the gold links didn’t line up on the dots anymore
I'm about to do this tomorrow but I had a quick question. When you're talking about rotating the crank to get cylinder one a little below top dead center, does it matter which way you turn the crankshaft? like, facing the engine as you are in the video, is it Counter-Clockwise or Clockwise or does it not matter? And also, how much below top dead center do I need to go?
my 2.0t is about due for its timing to be done and was just wondering when doing all this is there anything else you would recommend changing out since you are already that deep into it?
It’s literally the same as this video. Your sprockets are held in by a 14mm bolt You simple just hold the cams in place with an adjustable wrench (which I’ve done in this video) and impact the 14mm bolt off (in the middle of the sprocket) and that’s it. Install new sprocket and tq to 39-43ft lbs
@@ProdigePerformance okay im finally done with it. But quick question (checking my work) when you say two rotations do you mean rotate the engine until the dots line up again?
I just finished building my car, back together I need a tune for my parts. They are all bolt ons for now until I save some more funds for a bigger turbo. I'm here in san antonio and nobody tunes Genesis coupes here. Where can I get one? Do you know anyone in town that can do it? I saw alphaspeed but i wanna go to a place a pay money other then paying online
Your only option is alphaspeed really. You’ll need to message alphaspeed central Texas Aka josh Craig. Also, I’m from San Antonio. Josh is always tuning cars here.
If I was you bro just go with the SFR Canned tune. Made a HUGE difference for half the price as alpha speed. Been running the tune for almost 40k miles now
@ lol ok look. Going to explain this as simple as I can. 2010-2014 engines are the EXACT same. Blocks are 100% the same. The only difference is the rods are stronger in 13-14 coupes with a SLIGHTLY different compression ratio. That’s literally it. Everything else is exactly the same ENGINE wise Not accessories.
@ProdigePerformance can i put any engine in then? I was told i could only use the 2013 - 2014 engine Am i being bullshitted by hyundai and scrap yards?

You always vent the cooling system when replacing a part like that. Very easy to do

They won’t line up again. It’s just for the initial pre set of timing

Nothing special at all. Its simple remove and put back on

On a LS3 and 454
I use a torch and flat head to get them out.
For the GC you need a valve stem tool to get them out plus heat

can you make a video of replacing the cvvt sprockets?
