Blizzard uses to be a paragon of balance. Now, they can't get much right in that regard.

Paragon of balance have you ever played a little known game called world of warcraft well usually only about 3 classes are runnable because they are so far better than the others that the others might as well not exist
The days I thought of were the days of Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, and Starcraft 1. Maybe it was because I was a child playing those games, but I never thought the games were unfair (besides the fact that "balance" wasn't on my mind then). However, I still hold those games in higher regard for the care and attention on those games.
Those people from those teams are all but just about completely gone, replaced by people who didn't build the franchises they were working on and had different vision for what the games should and could be. And game balance has clearly been a huge struggle.
Maybe games like Overwatch and WoW are just that difficult to get right. Maybe the mathematics involved is becoming more and more difficult as more variables and possibilities are introduced. I try my best to be unaffected though, personally. It's just video games anyway.
They should hire someone that plays the game and understands what make’s characters good but still fun

The problem is who would it be, because pros being the biggest influence in balance didn't work, that's for damn sure, you would need poeple who all know alot about the game, play it alot but are at different skill levels

I think their real problem is that they want to balance it out for both competitive and casual players which is tough because you can't please everyone.

League of Legends did the exact same thing when balancing ARAM before. Balance was literally just "Deals X% more/less damage", "Heals are X% stronger/weaker", "Takes X% more/less damage". Very rarely were champions properly adjusted.
Ziggs had like a 30% damage penalty and was still one of the strongest ARAM champions because of his design, but they refused to touch anything meaningful on him and kept on this numbers crusade for a few years.
Finally at the end of last year they admitted this balance method was actually terrible and just made the game less fun. Sure it's easy to balance off of statistics, but it's never going to tackle how unfun something is to play against.
Fun should 100% be the most important thing, or really how painful it is to play against something. A fun but painful character like widowmaker is fun for 1 but painful for at least half the lobby
I'm being completely honest when I say that I believe that _Paladins_, the overwatch clone that really wasn't meant to be an overwatch clone, is a more fun game.
Every character is stupid and goofy. "What if talking tree" "What if French catgirl" "what if sentient bomb" and I genuinely believe it's a better balanced game. The difference, I believe, is that every character is mediocre. Every characters abilities are mostly utility, they kill kinda slowly and every ultimate is kinda shitty and every character regens passively when out of combat. What that ends up being is a game that's kinda clunky, fights are kinda slow and everyone can be in one enclosed area and survive for 30 seconds.
But it makes for so much fun. The game is shitty, the characters are dumb, the gunplay and ability use is messy. But the game is 3 times as fun as overwatch
Overwatch is a well made, professional game. But it's boring
Paladins is an objectively shoddily made game. But it's still so so fun
A lot of people default to overwatch because it's better made and more streamlined and they don't play paladins because it's cheap and clunky. Looks can be deceiving. Paladins is a more fun game

Sometimes just dynamically changing the game can also keep it fun and interesting. If one or two characters stays meta a long time then it gets stale.
I think this is the ticket. I don't think true balance is possible in overwatch, let alone achevable. Tipping the scales every now and then is the next best thing, and much more easily done.
Honestly I think it's a great challenge to balance a game like Overwatch. With so many variables it gets to the point where there is always an inevitable imbalance with characters' abilities.
I think constantly changing the game is what makes it fun. But to act like players won't always try to abuse any little powerful strategy would be acting blind.
Idk, right now OW 2 is amazing, it feels like you can literally play anything. The meta at pro level isn’t just 5 characters and it’s actually a pretty wide variety depending on the map, which is exactly what is good for balance. Map based metas

Playable and viable are 2 completely different things. I could play sombra, sure, but will I get much value from her god No, I would be better off playing echo or tracer
@@domicci4460 right now all the characters are viable but there are some characters that stand out. Widow, ball, and kiriko. Just because these characters are really really good, doesn’t make the other characters bad persay. It doesn’t take away from their value and utilities.

@DekuStick no this is just true in diamand and above if I play genji or sombra I would get infinitely more value from tracer who I'd just better even tho i can play amzing on genji and sombra I would still get a lot more value from tracer. Playable and viable are 2 different things and yes we dont have a brig making nothing else playable or viable out side goats but we are in a static meta tank is the most blanace role at the moment with only 1 playable but not all that viable tank dps has alot of playable but not viable dps and support is kinda just jacked and better then dps if you don't play passive. I am a support main we aren't weak and if people say they are they are just bad
@V and again no viable means can be played well in the meta playable means people who are good like above their teir in skill can play them such as genji and sombra or doom if you one trick you can make any hero look "viable"

Tbh I feel that season 3 is the most balanced. As a brig main my only hard counter was junkrat and his one shot got nerfed so now I really only have to worry about pharah and she’s easy to avoid.
Season 3 is the most balanced but that's because S1 - S2 were horrendously balanced. Every update since beta 1 has actively made the game worse until now with season 3.

Like yeah, I play genji most of the time because i find him fun, or rein, i like the big funny hammer. But i have such a slow reaction time its like a 1/10 chance of me deflecting nade and even a 1/20 that i got it to stick to someome

They should either invest some money into employees to look into the overwatch community and see their over all opinions on things or make constant forums Abt certain agents that they feel it needs balance and make an option for is there any thing unbalanced

I feel like the games the most balanced it's been and pvp games will never be fully balanced. It's pretty much impossible. Especially with new heroes being added every six months
They're also trying to balance it for casual gamers and competitive gamers, and thats really hard. You can't really please everyone.

Hard disagree. The game is mostly balanced; very few heroes feel overtuned and a handful of heroes are objectively bad.
Balance is totally fine imo.
Ppl forget that a perfectly balanced game will get boring and really stagnates how much content they can add while blizzard is making a “meta” every season that way the game feels much more alive, yes they do struggle to balance sometimes but tbh for the most part most things have been pretty much balance except for a couple heroes who r above the rest but, that what a meta is

It's pretty good, but i remember some other times quite a bit more fondly, at least at my own meat-of-the-bell-curve rank.
I honestly feel the game is best at low to medium ranks when it's bad at high ranks. GOATs, double shield, etc.
They did that sh*t to WoW, trying to make all classes seem/feel identical. In the end all classes lost their identity 😂

I think everyone forgets blizzard is ran and controlled by Microsoft now. So the devs hands are kinda tied because they are just trying to do things the Microsoft way and keep their jobs.
Is that deal even approved yet? If im not mistaken, acti-blizz is still firmly in charge, although that's not saying much, either.
It goes to say that in terms of those who know the best about their game, it's those who play it day in and day out. A lot of times they take feedback from pros in the game, and those who know more about the game then they could ever. Blizz can only do so much, so understanding and learning more about balance from the community. They've been super open through the end of season 2 and 3, and have done pretty well for balancing so far. Makes me hopeful. It's a decisive issue, and one that falls into a grey area. Overwatch will never fully be balanced. It's just how it is. Blizz simply is working to do the best it can to make the experience balanced and fun for all players.

@@landoctopi6708 The Best players in the world know the game the best. They have more hours in the game than even the devs, by a long shot. They know how to balance things much better (at least at the high level) than a dev.
