    Thanks Lou!
Your explanation on a brake light switch vs brake pressure switch and the location helped me tremendously!
I have a 2002 C32 AMG that I thought was having a brake light switch problem (vehicle wouldn’t start or move out of gear). Turned out by understanding what you showed, I found it NOT to be the pressure switch (as you explained that some models had no brake switch mounted anyplace…I was looking for it).
It turned out to be a bad relay in position K…not the starter relay…
So thanks again for the awesome video….
    Much appreciated!

Glad to help! and thanks for not asking me for a location when I clearly explain in the video its only in 1 of 2 places and in the description I literally list every single model and its location, for that I appreciate you ♥. I take time out of my day to try and help those that need proper info, and it gets frustrating when I get asked questions that I literally explain in the video. ESPECIALLY when its on the exact same model in the video!!!!!! sometimes I want to cry....... haha. thanks for commenting and glad I could assist in some way shape or form.
FYI a brake switch will never stop a car from starting, UNLESS you are trying to use the push button keyless go feature as it needs the switch to be recognized. but other than that, its not part of the starting system. Lou

You hit on something..people want to be spoon fed…even when you actually explain everything in your video.
Those people probably shouldn’t be working on their own vehicles😂
The only reason I mentioned about the brake switch not allowing the vehicle to start was because so many others in other forums have said it did…
And of course, mine doesn’t have a switch..which they also said it did.
Your video was the only one I found that showed differently ..and you were the one that was right…which is why I wrote.

Hey Lou, I have a 2003 S600. I don't think I saw you list this model. I'm pretty certain I have a brake light switch since I purchased a new one from auto store. Also, I am currently trying to remove the piece of plastic to gain access to the pedal but can't seem to separate it from the dash. It appears to be clipped on but I don't want to be to rough with it. Do you have a tip to remove that piece to expost the wule pedal to get to the switch? I have removed the 5 screws already. Thanks.

Hi, i hope you can help me out here. I have an 2001 w203 c class, and i have fault on abs, bas, esp, and epc. I have used the icarsoft that u used in the video. When i for example goes in to esp it says error. Its like i dosent get contact with it. Maybe the esp control module is in "sleep" and i have to go to a mercedes workshop to fix it. So if you have some advice that would be great.

    • @MasterTechLou
      @MasterTechLou  2 ปีที่แล้ว

With 203 you have to choose the right year in the scanner. Also if you cannot communicate with esp then that is a symptom. Check other modules for codes with communication with esp. or your scanner may be bad.

On the ships I worked on, redundancy is used specifically for having a second system ready to be used, in the event that the other system fails. In this was, one system is always in operation - while the other remains idle or is being repaired or replaced. My guess is that this *MIGHT* be the reason this system is applied in automobiles breaking systems, since the brakes *IS* the most important system in a vehicle. I might be wrong but that's my guess - since that's why such systems are used on ships.

    • @MasterTechLou

That would make sense! That or for diagnosis purposes. Mercedes is pretty good with explaining how things work but we run into scenarios like this where they never released information why. Least I have yet to find it.

Thank you. I found all your list. I do have a follow up question. If I have a bad brake light switch can it cause the car not to start with a Drive Authorization not authorized. My dash lights come on. Everything works but engine wont crank. ECM has no faults. I've had car scanned with Mucar900 (I agree crazy name) also scanned with Altel. I get drive Authorization refused. All my fault codes are almost all the same. ECM and TCM all come back no faults.
I'm not a car mechanic. I'm a 73 year old retired teacher and I bought a 2008 550SL as my end of life dream car. In the 60's I could rebuild a 389 with 3 deuces. Today's cars are computers with wheels. I'm lost and my budget doesn't equate to Mercedes dealers repair.

Hey Lou, learned a ton from the video! I recently purchased a 2004 s500 with the only error code being a speed sensor ( PO500 vehicle speed sensor A). I believe this to be the cause of esp & abs malfunction signs on the dash. However my rear right break light just won’t turn off. Even after turning the light switch to “0” and turning off the car. The license lights weren’t turning off so i unscrewed them. This only started recently. I’ve bought a brand new battery and i think this was the culprit for my previous dead battery. The trunk lid also won’t close but the air attempts. Could this go along with the break lights?

master cylinder has to come off if you cannot get to the pressure switch
also if you have a rear light staying on, then my money is on a bad rear sam (fuse box) as it is responsible for all the lighting and it most likely has water and corrosion present in the module or connections.

Communication failure or bad ism or bad trans.
Most times its water in the central gateway.
But thats thinking out loud, heres a test if you press the shifter and it says “press brake” that means communication is good. And possibly a brake switch or fluid issue with brakes. A broken brake line will lose pressure so you cant shift.

    • @MasterTechLou
      @MasterTechLou  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No it does not. You can have a module make up fault codes. Its not common but it does happen. Either a module is not sending a signal out or not processing the signal back. And by signal I mean voltage.
Which is when it’s important to diagnose.
Is positive and or negative voltage coming out of the module for the circuit . Is it getting back to the module. We determine a module is bad when everything external tests fine. If that makes sense.

The code is for ZERO POINT VARIATION. I can follow the reset SAS procedure to reset the SAS and the light goes off. I replaced the SAS behind the steering wheel but, come up with the same issue. Some say it could be the brake light switch. ESP light and ZPV fault seems to be consistent, coming on at about 40 to 65 miles or just over an hour of driving. Can make it happen each time if I use the cruise control most of the time. Note DAS says the SAS needed replacement. Did not fix the issue?
Other comments were that the battery maybe weak but I get on codes that relate to a weak or low battery.

Hey Lou. I have a 2001 w203. 270 cdi. It has no power. My icarsoft scanner say there is a can bus fault. Nothing on display. When i start its it has power for ca. 20 sek. So the exhaust sound change to a deeper roumblen, and power is gone, max 3000 rpm. Scanner also said that flow in ecv system is to low.
Please help me with a good advice

hello, my problem is every time I push the breaks, the right side burns the light, I replace the bulb carrier on that side and the problem remains, The reason I replaced it due to a burned contact. Any ideas please let me know. Thank you.

In the video, I clearly state. Its either on the brake pedal or its on the master cylinder. Only 2 places they are located.

Hey so my Mercedes Benz c300 brake light won’t turn off. Even when it’s in park, So I’m guessing it’s an electrical issue? Question is how do I turn it off?

Hello, first make sure headlight switch is set to auto or O if you turn it too far left the lights will stay on.
If the switch is set properly then you most likely have bad rear fuse box and the only way to turn it off is to disconnect the battery until you can get it fixed. Unless its not all 3 lights but just 1 light then you can unplug that tail light housing connector. Save the battery from dying.
