  • Tamiya's first kit was 40 years ago. ** Edit Tamiya was a sawmill a long time ago, they released an RC Tank 2 years before this, and despite Tamiya saying they released their first kit 40 years ago, this kit is still fun. ** That's probably older than you. This special edition re-release features the Tamiya Ta02SW chassis topped off with a Jager - bomb orange body. Brings us back to when booze and smokes sponsored our race car dreams.

    "Looking at the chassis, this is as high tech as you could be in 1976" Lol. If a TA-02SW existed in 1976 it would surely be that, ha ha. This chassis is from the 1990s and was really high tech at the time of release back then. But no problem. Good review. Thank you.

    Whatever, your facts are waay off, BUT I feel ya bro. Id take that brushed Tamiya 1/1O scale Porsche any day. Over some belt drive brushless ultra thin lexan body( that never fits correctly for some reason) and carbon fiber high tech car. Why? Its waaay more fun to drive. Looks great and moves great. And Its scale. Its perfect. I can actually feel the car moving around the track as I drive it. Not just twitching left to right with the sub trim and telemetry doing all the work for me. That is why this is still on the shelves from the early 90s....until today.

    I say bring back the days when cigarettes and booze could sponsor things, because maybe no ones noticed, but people still buy just as much booze and cigarettes as they ever did. The only difference now is there's no sponsorship, and that's a shame.

    Pretty weak video in terms of facts:1. Tamiya isn't 40 years (it's 70 as a model company. Before that it was a sawmill). 2. Tamiya hasn't been into RC for 40 years (but 42). The model celebrates 40 years of Tamiya RC cars, but Tamiya started with RC tanks in 1974.) 3. The chassis isn't from 1976 (it's from 1991 in normal wheelbase and 1996 in short wheelbase config) and the original 1976 release has nothing in common with it except that it's a Porsche 934. Anyone with the tiniest bit of knowledge about old RC cars would never mistake this chassis design for being 40 years old.

    • @vrcmag
      @vrcmag  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good thing we aren't RC tank magazine. The kit celebrates 40 years of Tamiya's first kit release. Settle down.

    • @ewilloch
      @ewilloch 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So you don't care about getting multiple facts completely wrong? Good to know, so we don't have worry about missing something by ignoring your channel and "magazine". And no again, the kit doesn't celebrate 40 years of Tamiya's first kit release. It celebrates 40 years of Tamiya's first RC-car kit release. Tamiya has manufactured kits since 1946 and their first RC-model (the Sherman in 1974) was a kit too. The footage is nice, no question, but when most of what you say about Tamiya and the model (except aspects related to its handling) is completely wrong, then how are the viewers supposed to take you seriously? It would have been much better if you just had admitted that you don't have a clue about Tamiya and their history, instead of pretending and getting almost everything wrong. This isn't nitpicking, or about semantics. It's about decently correct versus completely wrong! Don't you think your viewers deserve correct information and don't you care about being a credible source of information, or is it all about bragging and showing off and getting as many views as possible?

    • @vrcmag
      @vrcmag  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dear Tamiya-phile, Erik. I appreciate you love of Tamiya and while this review was not a history lesson or lecture on Tamiya I can appreciate your passion. Again, we're not a tank magazine and if I'm "wrong' then Tamiya USA must be too because this is a quote from their page.
      "
      2016 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the
      Vaillant-liveried Tamiya Porsche 934 (Item 58001). It was the first ever
      Tamiya R/C car model and one which would kick off a major worldwide
      trend that still continues to this day. This kit is part of the
      celebrations of that anniversary, and recreates the 934 in distinctive
      Jägermeister livery. This highly detailed body runs on the short
      wheelbase and wide stance TA02SW chassis. The kit includes a plethora of
      option parts to make this a very special release.
      The TA-02SW exhibits a short-wheelbase and has a wide track to
      accommodate the scale form of the real sports car. It normally features a
      tub chassis with 4-wheel, fully independent suspension coupled with a
      rear ball differential and a front gear type differential. This special
      edition is fitted with a double deck FRP chassis for increased rigidity."
      I can see how it can be misunderstood that this was the actual kit, and if I was to talk about the kit again I could make that more clear...
      So yes, I want the most views to help show off this kit and other kits. I've read the Tamiya book and visited them in Japan. But I won't claim to be the champion of Tamiya history. There are plenty of websites for that. So thank you for your comment, and I assume, thumbs down. If you could tell everybody you know to watch and get angry about the review (and the annoying loud volume at the end of my video) I'll gladly listen.

    • @ewilloch
      @ewilloch 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks, but I'm not a Tamiya-phile, but Tamiya is one of my most important hobbies, I worked for a Tamiya country distributor for 17 years and since roughly 1982, I work constantly on a database about Tamiya products. So I don't think it's totally incorrect to say that I have at least basic knowledge about Tamiya. And the things I pointed out as incorrect in your video is just basic Tamiya knowledge that most Tamiya enthusiasts "know in their sleep". As for Information from Tamiya USA's website, it's in this case actually correct, so I can't possibly understand why you use the Information from Tamiya USA's website to justify your own incorrect Information? Tamiya USA points out that 84431 marks the 40th anniversary for 58001, which was Tamiya's first ever R/C CAR model, which is correct and what I pointed out in my first comment too. You however, claimed it marked the 40th anniversary of Tamiya as a company and Tamiya's 40th anniversary for R/C models and that's something rather different and sorry, it's totally wrong. Tamiya USA also points out that 84431 is on the TA02SW Chassis, which is corrrect. The TA02SW is, as I reckon you know, the short wheelbase version of the TA02. You however indicate in the video that it's identical to the chassis of 58001, when in fact it has practically nothing except having 4 wheels in common with it. And the chassis of 58001 dates from 1976, whereas the TA02SW dates from 1996, and this is certainly not Information from the Tamiya USA website, and again, it's completely wrong. That said, though they basically got it right about 84431, Tamiya USA isn't particularly credible or accurate source of Information about Tamiya. I understand that that might sound odd, but Tamiya USA doesn't have a long history as a Tamiya distributor, it's a commercial Company with little regard for and knowledge about Tamiya's history and of the Tamiya items that were released long before Tamiya USA took over Tamiya distribution in the USA from Model Rectifier Corporation. I'm not saying that the Tamiya USA website is useless as an Information source about current Tamiya products, but for vintage Tamiya products and Tamiya history, it certainly is. And I don't blaim them. After all their in it for the money, not for the love of Tamiya, their models, their history, their Image or quality. I don't you how old you guys behind the video are. If you are kids, you can be forgiven for not understanding the importance of honesty, accurate and correct information and for not having the pride to care about what you say is true or not. Also, TH-cam is thank God free to everyone to post any video (within the rules) with whatever wrong statements anyone wants to share or doesn't care to get correct, and I certainly don't want that freedom changed. I would be among the first to protect and fight for your right to post whatever incorrect Information you want. But, in the same way, TH-cam is free to any viewer to point out any wrong statements in any video, regardless of whether the maker of the video actually wanted it to be incorrect or simply didn't care to provide quality Information. And that's what I did in my first comment. Not more, not less. And we talk about simple basic Tamiya knowledge, not "deep down obscure details". Nobody, of course including myself, has the right to expect you to know anything about Tamiya, and the footage of your video is indeed very nice, so wouldn't it have been better for your own pride and integrity to simply be honest and not make a lot of (incorrect) statements based assumptons, but instead say the things you positively know? Or, if you wanted to be trustworthy, simply do a few minutes of dead easy research before making the video, which would allow you to get the basics correct? If you're a working adult or a student, I can't imagine that you don't know the need and value of working accurately and produce high quality results, whether it's a report or a physical products or a test (at school or the University). And though TH-cam allows for most anything, wouldn't be nice for your channel (and yourself) to be known for high quality and accuracy of information? And doesn't that have a bit to do with pride and integrity? I certainly don't want to dictate to you what to do, but I'm only asking. And I know that I care about being whether I'm known to family, friends, neighbours and associates at work as a decent and honest person that can be trusted or someone who pretends to know things I don't have a clue about. Also, I think any person I interact with deserves my respect, so I do my best to be honest and accurate and not waste their time with assumptions and lies. You obviously have the talent for making good footage and I reckon you have put a lot of effort into getting this good, so why don't do the same with the (spoken or written) Information you provide? I think you can.

    • @vrcmag
      @vrcmag  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you were a distributor and run a database for Tamiya? Clearly you aren't a Tamiya-phile. Way off. Look, I get what you are saying. I listened to the review again and you are just hyper focused on words you want to hear. I say it's a replica, which doesn't mean it is the same car. But I'll agree if you just an average person who is into RC and run a database on Tamiya (pure sarcasm) you will get upset.
      Thanks for the history lesson and resume. Again. The review isn't a Tamiya history lesson, it's a review of kit that celebrate 40 years of the first release, which you seem to argue against.
      I'm more upset of the volume mess up at the end. And why you bring in that you can post on the internet and thank God is confusing. Never did I say don't post or thumb down.

    This video could have been good if at least some minimal effort was made to look up some facts instead of making everything up based on the "40 years of Tamiya R/C cars" tag line on the kit's box. It really hurts the magazine's credibility to get it wrong and then additionally to defend the errors. It takes all of two seconds to do a google search on the topics of Tamiya R/C cars, 40 year old R/C cars, TA02SW, etc.

    • @vrcmag
      @vrcmag  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure where I am defending errors? First Tamiya kit ever released with this body...AGAIN I can understand how this can be taken that this is reproduction kit. But it's okay. I know the Tamiya-philes...oh sorry those with Tamiya databases and websites are getting all excited about the wording. But I said "Yes I can see how it can be taken that way" but I don't really say that. Ed...have you read or heard of the magazine before this video?

    • @gymleader
      @gymleader 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This kit is my first Tamiya R/C car, so I hardly qualify as a "Tamiya-phile." Before buying it, I had never even heard of a Porsche 934 or knew that Tamiya had been making R/C cars for 40 years. I bought it because it said limited edition, looked really cool, and wanted my first on-road touring car. I found this video while looking for information about Tamiya 934 R/C cars and even I was cringing while watching the video.
