I could not buy a Tamiya kit and not build it and run it. That's the best part of the Tamiya kit. Building a masterpiece and running it. Excellent video Phil!
Ha. I have the Mercedes C11 kit on my shelf unbuilt because I’m traumatized by the amount of stress that goes into making sure the decals go on correctly. …that and it’s on a chassis that has no hop ups available
I did the same with my 30th anniversary. Added the light kit also, so it has turn signals, and the headlights flash when you are accelerating. I love it with the drift wheels, so much more fun than rubber tires
If everybody did box art builds & nothing but box art builds this wouldn't be a very interesting hobby.! And I doubt I'd want anything to do with it. Nice build. The colour looks great! I’m glad to see you did what you wanted with it. Cars are meant to be driven, I think it’s a shame when a car, real or RC just sits in storage being looked at. But to each their own.
Tomley rc I'm so glad that you are opening up that Porsche and building it into some unique vehicle and that puts on the biggest smiles on my face and you have one-of-a-kind nobody else has, unless they copy so that's awesome 😎
I bought a my first Tamiya, a TT02D some time back and still haven't got round to starting it. I've got the one way diff, upgraded drive shaft etc. and a dumbo RC with the gyro receiver, so I can build it from the ground up for what I want to use it for. I've always bought RTR or rollers and not built anything since the original Technics lego with the working gearbox back in the late 80s. I'm not a purist of any type so I think if you paid for it, you build it and enjoy it however you want and this looks like a perfect way of doing so.
Beautiful!!! Great job. The build is the part of the hobby I love most. Painting the body exactly how I LIKE IT makes it all mine! Running it is the actualization of all the work put into it.
Ok.... That looks absolutely stunning.... The guts of the car are definitely it's glory.... I could never build something like that. No dexterity and no confidence to be honest,😊
I'll be damned if I buy an rc that's as much as my house payment just to let it sit on a shelf! No sir! We're going to drive the holy hell out of that thing!
Great build, looks ace! Why worry about what people may think though? At the end of the day we're living the dreams of our childhood with our RC's & it should be fun, just like you're having. If someone has an issue, tell them to sell it at a newsagents :)
Yeah it's like people who built pocher kits. They are worth 3x unbuilt but many buy and build them for the fun of it. Unlike these though you will never see them re-released.
All I can say is lovely chassis, beautiful body, just perfect mate,I don't think anyone could complain about what you've done with it she looks amazing 👊👌
modern motors, & electronics in vintage Tamiya's (re releases) make them infinitely more fun. the only Tamiya I have that runs the stock "silver can(s)" is the Clod.
I'm all for nerding out on the build, but there's nothing wrong with driving a shelf queen. Lovely car, nice to see it driven (even if it's the only time)
I built a bunch of TL-01 shelf queens because I like screwing things together as opposed to all the fiddley bits of a model kit. The thing is: if you're building a shelf queen you can get the cheapest tamiya chassis or even just a block of wood, paint it black, put some wheels on it and paint the body. I know it's not the same but still. If you're not going to run it it doesn't make that much difference really.
Mines going to spend most of its time on the shelf now… but I like to at least run them once, just to feel I’ve had a bit of value haha. But what people do with there’s is fine by me 👌
what an awesome build! it makes me want to take the time to put my own tamiya together for once! i like the look, it's almost like a drift RWB build. well done chap!

Awesome build. Looks really nice. Looks like a total blast to rip around with and this is the point of our hobby. Personalizing what you spend YOUR money on.
