You should take Colorado scenic route 141 south of grand junction down to Telluride. Then up to Delta over Colorado scenic highway 92. Then Colorado scenic highway 149 down to Lake City and Creede.

I thought Moab was so great I moved there. I lived there about a year and half and could not get out of town fast enough ! Its a big time tourist town with high prices , crowded where ever you go around there. The temp in summer well hit 110 but winters are very mild with snow only lasting a day or two , I do not recall ever seeing snow plows so the winter crowds are bigger than you would think with 4x4s and off road bicycles. Love your videos Russ but you missed this one , Moab does not represent "small town USA ".

The reason the scenery is so spectacular in the South West is because of the two different rock types. The hard red sandstone with thick strata alternatively over and under softer shale with thin strata. The shale weathers away much faster than the sandstone which eventually gets undercut and then collapses. This results in massive cliffs sitting on top of the shale. This entire 'geological set up' is caused by the rivers, most notably the Colorado wearing their way through the entire strata as the whole region is slowly uplifted over millions of years.

Beautiful Video footage, Russ! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to record your drive on your journey. I have seen some of that area before when I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Moab for some mountain biking in the Arches National Park. The Canyonlands are in that area and I had not heard of that park before it is HUGE! The rocks are so amazing and massive in size. I am glad your trip is going well for you. I just returned from Southern Colorado area in the San Juan mountains, which are very beautiful!

Thank you for your videos! Back in late spring of 2021 (pandemic era) we drove from Denver to the Arches (first time there). Upon arriving at Arches National Park, we were turned away due to their being too may people. Leaving Arches and heading south on 191 we turned onto 128, not knowing how magnificent the drive is. Wow! After driving the length of 128 we decided to turn around (drive through again to experience the beauty). Once back on 191 we thought we'd try Arches again. It was getting later in the day, a lot of people had left so the ranger let us in.

The Colorado river runs for 400 miles through Utah. There are only 3 bridges that cross it. You went over 2 of them on this drive. Incidentally, that old abandoned bridge that was off to your right as you crossed to the north side of the river near the end of the video is the Dewey Bridge, constructed in 1916 and on the National Register of Historic Places. No longer in use, but was the 2nd longest suspension bridge west of the Mississippi.

Nice tour. I did that very same drive 25 yrs ago with an 8 mm video camera on a tripod bungee corded in the passenger seat. Filmed the whole thing non-stop while Dire Straights was blaring on the CD player. It was a magical 3 weeks in the Moab/ Canyonlands/Arches area. I turned the camera back on for one of the tunnels (Eisenhower) in Colorado at 2 AM. As soon as I exited the tunnel it was instantly pitch back, so turned the camera off. 30 seconds later a HUGH meteor came down vertically in front of me. Would have been nice to capture that.

@@kenmenny4693 the turn before that. At the end of the colorado river road. Both left and right will take you to I-70. Left(west) is about 3 miles long to I-70. But if you hook a right(east) it will take you to a really cool creepy ghost town of Cisco then keep following said road and will continue on to I-70. About 10 miles long to I-70
