Hiking To A Natural Arch No One Has Been To - Moab Utah

- Note: I am intentionally leaving the location out of this video. I don't want someone "pulling a Moses" and wandering off into the wilderness and never returning.
I "discovered" this arch by accident on google maps. On the maps, I couldn't quite tell if this was an arch or not, so I just decided one day to drive to Moab and check it out! But, before I did drive to Moab, I spent two weeks planning my route to the supposed arch. I even planned several backup routes just in case my first ones didn't work.
Well, all my routes failed except for my last route. Still, it was a very difficult and long hike and one that shouldn't be taken lightly. I was very prepared, but wasn't prepared for how rough the terrain would be. It's easy to get lost and easier to slip and fall down cliffs. I do not recommend trying to hike to this arch.
I told myself I would try and hike to the arch and if it got to 4 pm and I still hadn't reached the arch, I would turn back (safety first, right?). Instead of just turning back emptyhanded, I used the drone to scout for the arch and saw it! I also scouted out a future route to the arch, even though it looked like it would require ropes and gear and all that blah blah. I plan to return in the near future more prepared and with friends.

Note: I'm sure other people have been to this arch, but not many. There wasn't a trail. I was bushwhacking and stepping over and through bushes and cactus for about 80% of the hike - ouchy! - บันเทิง

Those drone shots were incredible, that was like another planet on Star Wars. I could have watched those shots for hours.

This was a very pleasing video/hike that probably very few have been to. I am surprised that so few have viewed it, after two years. You do suffer for your art. Thank you for sharing.
i believe this is officially called concealed arch and lots of people have been there. There is a tricky technical route into the arch coming from the east. its been known about for decades and is on the Natural arches (NABS) and World arch database sites for arches. There is a faster route there from Pool arch (i think) but its been a few years since i took the route to the fin directly across from it.

This is correct. He's just click baiting. Still a cool spot.
Hey @AlexSanchez-oz8uu nice to see you here. Definitely a shorter, less technical route via Pool arch. No rope required. This was one of my more favorite hikes. It isn't visited a lot , but there are definitely people who go.

Me too. I drove the Girl Scouts crazy, in my day, because I loved to climb and the "buddy system" meant nothing to me. But a couple of the other girls would end up up in the rocks with me anyway, and the poor "counselors" would be tearing out their hair! Still remember, "Camp Deer Lake." @@johnhart125

Wow.. so much art left behind by the ancients.. even though the landscape is extremely dry, it is so beautiful.. I would think that the peace is almost spiritual..

I know this video is 2 years old, but you should consider reading (if you haven't already) Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. He was a park ranger at Arches in the 1950's and if anyone has explored a majority of the area, it would've been him.

I love Arches. Definitely a labyrinth in many places that looks accessible from the air or satellite, but on the ground it’s totally different.

If you're ever in San Miguel de Allende, go to the restaurant called Don Taco Tequila down just one street from the Jardin del Centro. The owner is named Alain. He's an avid hiker and knows many different spots in the state of Guanajuato (and all across Mexico) for hiking. Great food and a great guy! Tell him that Tomás from California sent you.
Your videos are wonderful. This one brought back memories of being a kid in the 1970's traveling through Moab and stopping at this really great rock shopi. The owner told us if we came back after he closed up he would take us hunting for dinosaur bones and gastroliths. He took my Canadian family out in the gorgeous desert and we found so much. It was a magical and memorable day that I still remember after almost 50 years. Thank you so much for reminding me of that wonderful day and how beautiful and special that area is.😍😍

I think the petroglyphs might be a more important find than the arch. Certainly, no one ever found them on Google Earth. Lol

Most of this petroglyphs look like childrens drawings, why that "important"?
I totally agree with that statement I have a masters in archeology from University of Pittsburgh lol although it was my 2nd dairy study I was still educated in reading of our south west and western states petroglyphs and I would love to see a few pictures of them and if you have the gps coordinates

What is amazing to me, upon watching your journeys to the Four Corners region, is how many, maybe thousands, of people adapted to and lived, farmed, hunted, crafted, raised stock in that area centuries ago. Those canyons, gullies, arroyos, mesas were well traversed by a very hearty and agile population. So much is isolated now but, as you know, that was not always the case, as I said before: amazing and thank you for sharing your treks with us.
Exactly my sentiments as well. I wish I could travel back in time and be immersed in these communities to see how they lived and prospered.

You are a real life Indiana Jones. Can I just please tell you this is amazing, that rock art 😮 you maybe the only person to have set eye on this for 100s or thousands of years. You are probably walking on untouched lands where people have never ventured or very few have. You are truly amazing. I'm in Scotland watching this, I'm getting to see these amazing places through your channel thank you ❤ I love ancient history, I mostly watch ancient Celtic British history. I'm fascinated by the ancient America and their peoples, we could learn so much 🌟

Rock Art of Spirals has existed in cultures all over the world from the Desert SW to Scandinavia. It is also one of the oldest 'designs' ever found, many spinning sun-wise from the center outward....
Can you imagine being in that shelter as a thunderstorm comes thru!! The smell of the earth getting wet, the lightening & thunder! Watching the rain pour over the lip of the entrance. Beautiful!

Your drone shots are so cool!!! All of Utah should be national park! I visited this state a couple of years ago and it was beyond fascinating.
I think it's so cool to see the rock art, knowing someone else hundreds or even thousands of years made it. Makes you ponder if the artist stopped to wonder how long their creation would last and who if anyone, would ever see it.

I just think it’s just insanely cool that those canyons were created by glaciers. Either that or water erosion.

i ESPECIALLY dig the petroglyphs and all that art. it is AMAZING to see. Near Del Rio TX there is a area called SEMINOLE canyon and is very old. There are books about it and it was explored initially i think back in the early part of the 20th century

Beautiful and amazing; it was funny, but seeing the petroglyphs made my heart kind of jerk-- "people, people!" That last batch had three small figures at the bottom, with two closer together and one done a bit differently to the right. I wondered if the two together were the Hero Twins of my part of the Southwest, Monster Slayer and Born-For-Water, the sons of Changing Woman. I don't know where you were, but they're even though the Twins are mostly of Navajo origin you find their stories all over the place. Some stories are everywhere, like the one of the Mother of Game-- I've seen petroglyphs with her in them a number of times. Those were beautiful petroglyphs that you found, and the arch was magnificent (great name!)

The petroglyphs you saw I think were showing something specific. I took a still shot and would like to share it with the Skinwalkers Ranch Insiders. Do you happen to specifically tag and or collect the petroglyphs and their locations? The fact that you felt a need for "reverent silence" in the area where the glyphs are shows that you're a very sensitive respectful person. It's one thing to always put the pottery back down, but this is different. I love the channel and still haven't seen all the videos - so much to look forwared to!
