  • The right watch can make the right impression depending on the nature of the job you are applying for. Here are a few examples on where a watch can not only help you buy also sometimes hurt you when applying for a job depending on the expectations of the person on the other side! More is not always good... Pay close attention before making the wrong call!
    Comment below if you think there are any other examples!
    Thank You for watching!

    Here’s some advice from a business owner who has interviewed hundreds of people. If you’re interviewing for an accounting position of any level, leave the flashy watch at home.

    • @WatchEric

      Not true. Accountants are known to be prudent and very hardworking. A good well worn Rolex can show that Accountant has earned his way and respect and who is pragmatic and enjoys quality products that last. I have interviewed many Accountants in the last decade in the corporate sector. Often I don't care about stereotypes or make assumptions, but what is true is first impression lasts.

    • @jamiesieu801
      @jamiesieu801 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think we need to leave stereotypes and remove assumptions as an interviewer, I have interviewed many in the last decade. But agree that first impression lasts despite it can be fallacious. I work in the industry with many Accountants and Finance professionals, what one has to say and personality during the interview carry a much heavier weight of getting the job. Wearing a watch or not is not that important.

      There was a account consultant that would come to my company and he always wore his Panerai Radiomir, the CFO didn’t even think about it but the president of the company made an off hand remark “how much are we paying him?” “We paying for his life style!” I thought it was a bit odd since the president of the company was a millionaire himself.

    • @jamiesieu801
      @jamiesieu801 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiscoR53 Haha:) Not only a president deserves to wear a timepiece. Watches are for anyone who enjoys them. It seems that the president was slightly jealous... Plus, a Panerai Radiomir is not considered to be the top range in the watch world.

    Once at an interview the boss asked me about my hobbys and I mentioned watches as one of them. We had a 5 minute discussion, ended by me saying that A. Lange is probably the best watch money can buy you. Interviewer/Boss was smiling, I got the job.

    Good advice my man. In my situation, taking care of veterans, any Rolex is just one step too high. A lot of my patients are dirt poor and need a hand up. Breitling, Omega, Panerai are just right.

      It's the Rolex image problem. Some models aren't even more expensive than other Omega models.

    I work in healthcare. A lot of egos as well as wanting to keep the focus on the patient, not the watch. I daily wear a VC Overseas in steel with the silver dial. It’s very clean and goes with everything from a suit to scrubs. Never too flashy, but for those who know…

    My watch saved my job….
    New Board Member came in after a few leadership members were fired in my Real Estate Department. I just started heading my department when this happened and was asked to come to HQ in DC.
    I got a call 10 min before the meeting with my financials in hand from a colleague that tipped me I was being assessed for my job and it wasn’t going to be a friendly conversation as I was being setup.
    I was wearing a Bulova and just put a deposit down on a Tudor Rose Black Bay (this was in 2017 before all the craziness). I noticed the Board member was wearing a Speedmaster.
    Before he took control of the meeting I simply said - “before we start, I can’t help but notice, is that a Speedmaster on your wrist? I’ve never seen one in real life. Do you like watches?”
    He smirked, took his watch off and slide it across the conference room table. He said “of course I like watches, I’m from Switzerland”
    We spoke about watches and how I was buying a Tudor - which was the CORRECT level of watch for my position at that time. Eric is right, different levels apply. Had I have been wearing a Rolex that meeting to a watch guy could have set the wrong example - especially since I was to explain all of the spending of the last regime (for which that regime was packing boxes simply a week before this meeting!)
    Anyway, thought I would share my story. We hit it off in the meeting spoke financials for the final 20 min because we spoke watches for about 30 min and had to reschedule the meeting. The next meeting we were cool, I explained the situation and now I’m promoted 2 years after that meeting.
    So yes, my watch saved my job.

    In Hong Kong...
    I came in with an Everrose Olive Green DD because I knew what shark frenzy I was getting myself into. Interview 1 for an algorithmic trading position for a boutique firm.
    Managing director said. "If you wore anything less, the door you first came in, would have been your best friend today. Welcome to the team."
    So entered another door with the entire trading floor behind it, atmosphere electric. Everyone has $50k+ on the wrist at a minimum. MD has a platinum salmon dial 5270P Grand Comp. So you can see where his expectations stand.
    Lesson atleast here in HK, first impressions are your final impression.
    Also.
    With success comes many enemies.
    Great vid m8.

    I find my Seiko cocktail time has worked well for me in in person interviews. I've had people say it shows a sense of class without being too flashy it's also somewhat subtle as it's the SRPB41J1 on a Hirsch rainbow lizard strap. I try and not wear my flashier stuff to interviews. That said the best compliment I've received was wearing a vintage 10K gold Bulova from the 30's to an interview at a watch dealer (which I did work with for a bit before he retired) He saw it and was like ah if you're wearing that you know watches, he asked me some questions about my collection and was impressed that even though I don't own any watch over $1000 that my collection was watches I enjoy and that would fit well into what he was wanting in a sales guy (ie someone knowledgeable but at the same time approachable by the public or even watch guys coming in)

In my opinion and as you, wise Eric said, it deppends on the nature of the job, but in traditional office jobs… sitck to classics… a stainless steel with a silver, black or blue dial suits any occasion. And there are a lot of affordable brands that offer those kind of watches. Always try to go for automatic though.

    Excellent Video!! What about a Datejust 41. Most people I know at work think I'm NUTS for spending that kind of money on a watch. Thanks!

    Once you have an ap or patek, probably you are the interviewer. I agree with eric, as an engineer in a boomer defense firm, its good to keep low profile. So my longines dress watch just stayed in my arsenal. For the all rounder, just stick w a black bezel sub, speedy pro, blk bar index dj, exp1, blk op, or some kind of a seamaster.

    I learned this lesson the hard way. Don't take luxury watches to interviews with tech companies. Many people will feel threatened and you'll have people crying... most new generation people work in tech, and they are crybabies. It brings negative attention... wear an apple watch or just nothing

    • @erne75
      @erne75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Working in tech I can tell you 98% wont even notice your watch. 1% would know and the other 1% will resent/feel threatened. Fuck them!!! I wont wear a bluesy to a job interview but an Explorer I, Datejust or OP...Sure, why not. If they have a negative reaction to it, you might not want to work there to begin with...

    I used to wear my green enamel dial UN classico. High beat to court, until a barrister was more interested in it than what i had to say! So went back to a RG day date anniversary dial, diamond bezel to tone things down...

    As a staff accountant, I only wear my Rose gold SkyDweller and Yachtmaster II two tone on Fridays.
    Monday - Thursday it either no watch or my Hamilton jazzmaster

    As the boss never wear a flashy watch employees get jealous and feel like you as the boss isn't paying enough to the employees. Wear a sub and drive a 5 series BMW. Unless you are in sales or MLM business then flex to motivate your sales team
