- Volvo informed customers that their US Volvo EX30 will arrive, earliest, spring 2025. The reason? Import tariffs, OR, more software issues...?

I placed a reservation on the EX30 back in December '23 here in Ohio, USA. I was thinking they would be available shortly after the first of the year. Given my rapidly depreciating '22 Bolt EUV trade-in value this plan would have worked well. Six months later... not so much!!! So, with the writing on the wall, I asked for my $500 refund two weeks before the end actually came. Back in December, I also spoke to Polestar Columbus. Now six months later Polestar's incentives of $10,000 off plus $299 a month for a 27-month Lease were simply too good to pass up! While the wait probably cost me a bit in the Bolt's value in the end my new Snow, Polestar 2, AWD Plus, Pilot, with 19" wheels is a much better, bigger, Software fully baked gorgeous EV and I think a Win in the end!!
Feeling sorry for our US friends, we have ours for 2 months now and after a few minor software hiccups now solved we are super happy with the car [our first full EV, we had a plugin hybrid before) its cute, practical, fun and super quality as a car, its a volvo..
Glad you're enjoy yours!
Glad I canceled my order last winter....I was a day one reservation holder....but I had a feeling this was going to happen here in US. Thanks for the detailed explanation for everyone as to the multiple reasons why for the delay. I know this will upset a lot of US reservation holders but It would be silly to pay extra (Tariff) for a entry-level Volvo....
LOL. I knew it. My C40 lease is up April 2025, hopefully Volvo will get it together and have either EX30 or the EX90 ready. Otherwise, I am looking at the Polestar 3 (which hopefully will be US tariff friendly) or the Porsche Macan EV as replacement.
The P3 could be a fun alternative for you!
Porsche macan ev…lol
With the last update to 1.4 the EX30 is a great ride, probably the avalability of the EX30 is a problem, the sales in Holland are very good.
Yes the 1.4 is doing pretty good!
Are you sure that the recall thing was a security issue? Probably was about issues with OTA upgrade to version 1.3. and finally not to everyone. Some people(some not) could update OTA way and didn't go to service. Maybe it hides a security issue, but not confirmed I think.
The issue was what the display could go into a factory test mode, preventing you from getting any kind of information about the car or the current drive
I reserved one in June 2023 to replace my 2009 XC90 or maybe my son’s 2009 C30. I think I will keep my cars for a while, though I am watching what is improving quickly….seems to be the Rivian offerings!
Took advantage of steep discount in 2025 XC60 T8 hybrid lease, $1500 for the reservation, and $1000 Costco July promotion.
@Noll9037 nice!!
I find it funny that polestar are just eating the tarifffs but Volvo won’t? My polestar 3 is now saying august eta / pick up. I’m going for my test drive Monday 10am. I should be the first in canada according to what I’m hearing (or one of the first 5)
Polestar 3 to be built in the Volvo US plant - only PS4 and PS2 are from China currently. PS4 US cars to be built in Korea anytime soon…
As for the email giving reservation holders in the US choices, I have not decided to do anything yet and still have my reservation. Current car 20017 Prius Prime is just fine.
Thanks!
thank you so much Thom. Appreciate the insider information as always. I am awaiting the chance to get a 2025 EX40 in Canada. Announcement of pricing is still delayed. I wonder if it’s related to this issue or perhaps just EV market pricing uncertainty. Andrew
Could be both. Prices are a bit hesitant here as well in the EU. Also high demand for the 40-series. For the EX40 I havent heard of any other issues so a MY25 should be possible!
Thank you Thom. I’d appreciate your advice: Should I wait for the 2025 EX40 or go for a nice Volvo Certified used one: 2023, Only 10,000kms and about 25% cheaper?
@@andrewtempler8150 I just took a nearly 50% depreciation on my C40 in 2 years, so I'm not buying a new-new Volvo anytime soon. I'd opt for a Volvo certified one to skip the first big depreciation and enjoy it as a new car as 10k km is just as new. 🙂
Placed reservation on EX 30 last month, keep US reservation holders updated! New EU tariffs affect sales of EX 30? sales were good prior? Let us know % allocated for US, hope we’re not in the back of the bus.
Just noticed today, Volvo USA closed offline, no reservations, updates only. Future Belgium Volvo EX 30 production sold out?
Could be! Perhaps they are timing the amounts/allocations and VC-USA has now filled all their available slots for my25.
The EX30 software is full of serious bugs and if they released it in US, Volvo are aware US citizens are not hesitant for litigation
I am holding out for the EX30 and the delay to the 2025 calendar year is not a big deal. I now have a BMW i3 and I can live with it until a European produced car arrives.
Any news on the EX30 in Canada?
I expect Canada also get the Belgium built EX30's.
My wait for my EX30 in Maryland USA ended in anticipation of the announcement of the Biden 100% tariff announcement. I pulled the plug (so to speak) in mid May, when I began to anticipate that Volvo would either move production to Gent, causing a significant delay, or the price would jump up making the EX30 uncompetitive. That fear also caused me to be concerned that the XC40 electric market would dry up, making used XC40's too expensive for my budget. So I jumped to buy a beautiful 2023 XC40 electric demo car from a dealership in Western Maryland. Despite the older tech and shorter range I am delighted! The price was close to what an EX30 with with all I wanted on it would have cost me, and as it turns out I was deluding myself that the smaller 30 was big enough for my needs. This is my 6th Volvo in my 60+ years and I could not be happier with this car... (well, the range of the ’23 versus the price of the '24 was a compromise that I'm ok with on most days)
Buy used..
Lol
How much will it cost ?
About 35 to 45k US $: www.volvocars.com/us/cars/ex30-electric/
Get a Polestar 2 instead. It’s awesome!
The more people drop out, the higher on the list I get. Could be one of the first people to get one next year.
That's also a way of looking at it. 😉👍
Cancelled my EX30 before message came out. I already have an XC40 Recharge so wouldn't have taken Volvo up on their offer anyway. I wanted a RWD sedan / hatchback and after checking out Polestar 2 RWD, Kia EV6 and BMW i4 eDrive40, I went with the BMW - got a dealer loaner with ~8000 miles that sold with a used car price but got tax credit since I leased it (will buy out lease ASAP to avoid paying interest to BMW).
Keep us updated on the 8000 used ev …. my dealer offered me the same….lol
@@sciagurrato1831 i4 is a great car and super efficient, too. Drove 1800 miles last month and averaged 4.6 miles/kWh. It goes like stink when necessary, too.
I will keep my reservation but will be looking very closely at the Kia EV3 as an alternative.
Yep that is surely an interesting car!
Kia ev lol
Going to wait another 6 months, then may go with a model 3.
Let’s be honest. It’s gonna be late. Why can’t these companies get it together for the US market? Seems like the VW ID Buzz is also unlikely this year
I think so too actually.. Hopefully were proven wrong and the car comes early! :-)
How many PST technicians are in this channnel!??? hit the "LIKE" !!!!!!
Get a Tesla people why bother? Car sounds like a 10 year corolla on the highway...
Tesla is very nice, but too big for what I want and expensive to insure.
@@DavidAMcCyes you are right size is an issue. This had to be a bit cheaper.
