He’s headed over to Rimac’s newly built campus, but he’s not checking out an all-new, all-electric hypercar - he will get up close and personal with Rimac’s new robotaxi concept! That’s right, the creators of the 1,914hp Rimac Nevera are creating an autonomous taxi!
So let’s take a closer look at the car. It’s called Verne, and Rimac are hoping it will start rolling out by as early as 2026! In terms of the size of the car, it looks like it could easily blend in within a city without standing out as an autonomous car. On the outside, it’s covered in sensors to help it manoeuvre around the streets, and in this early stage of development, the plan is for it to run only within cities rather than making longer journeys out of town.
On the inside, there are only two seats, and on the dash, there’s a huge screen that displays all the information you’ll need. It shows details of your journey, and comes with a choice of music, apps, and even the ability to play on an Xbox! The seats are highly customisable, with the option to recline should you so wish.
The taxi can be hailed via an app, and before it arrives you’ll even have the option to set the interior temperature and light settings!
The Verne is powered by a 60kWh battery which should offer enough range to run for a whole day in a city. It has a motor that drives the front wheels, can deliver around 200hp, and it weighs in at 2,100kg.

Being a Slovenian myself, even though we often "clash" with our southern brothers, Croats, I am honestly very happy for Mate Rimac, for making his own conpany and now even being the CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, especially with Bugatti being one of the fastest and most luxurious cars in the world... Nobody is currently talking about LIDAR congestion interference. This is going to become a real issue for these autonomous vehicles.
You mean those who actually use Lidar. Don't worry there are much bigger problems with their software than with the sensor.
Never knew this can happen but makes perfect sense, I am guessing that's why Tesla is switching to cameras.

Mate knows all about the trends in car industry, he's well aware that carwow is no.1 channel for this kind of promotion with Mat Watson being probably the most influential motoring journalist in the world right now. This kind of cooperation surely includes some kind of compensation.
But on the other hand, Mate Rimac and his projects are currently the hot stuff in the industry - so even if this marketing space is free / organically earned, it would still make a lot of sense as well.

I don't know if you noticed but the environment portrayed on the screen didn't match the actual environment the car was in.
This was literally just a marketing graphic. A promise one could say.
"The marketing i like" - great to hear that you like being lied to. The whole UI on the screen is fake (just a concept at this point) and doesn't show you any real information. Obviously, a cheap virtual car ride made in blender by a random freelancer would look better than Tesla's real functioning system that relies on it's surroundings, not on downloading 3d models of cities from the internet. Tesla isn't the best company and I'm not really interested in it, but the fact that it has the best software/hardware interaction on the market is out of the question.
Rimac will never be even close considering the lack of knowledge and resources. Even during the concept phase they already have realized that their system won't be able to determine the shape of the car in front of it, so they made the decision to turn all other cars into cute little green and gray boxes. How is that more detailed than the Tesla's system? Not to mention the fact that the car itself doesn't have the superpower of top down view, and can't see what's in front of it if there's something in the way, so it won't be able to show three cars in a row.
So yeah, it looks higher def and a bit more detailed (no) only in this promotional concept art. It won't look anything like that in the real thing.
What I like about these guys is that they are dead serious about the cars they create, but they still have a sense of humour.

That is basically the degree thesis I did with a friend at my university 5 years ago. The difference is that we created separated cabins, for the passengers, 2 or 4 depending on the tier level, because that way the vehicle could optimize routes and pick more people, reducing cost further but without the need to share space with others, but in the contrary we had a panel that could be lowered so it connected both cabins in case both users wanted it that way.
Certainly a really neat idea.

@@Metal0sopher the reason why self driving cars are being developed so much, is because at some point in future all cars will be able to have a self driving feature, and self driving might just be safer and more efficient since an AI can't be distracted or can't feel sleepy and won't occupy an entire seat.

It is good thinking to go for comfort and luxury, as most large companies will probably opt for small, cheap cars and will gain in volume in a crowded and very competitive market.

Dont think it was humble at all, a lot of fire was spit to Tesla, Elon, Toyota. Completely unnecessary, they better do it right. I expect those cars to cost even more than 300.000 dollars...
This isn't even a finished prototype...probably will take years to get it into production, if it ever sees the light of day.
