    Similar to what Sony did with the PSP, the Switch OLED is basically the Switch 3000 model. It's just an iterative refresh, not a new generation. So no, if you already have a Switch (like I do), you don't "need" to upgrade. It's a "want" thing.

    This is just perfect for hand-held players like me. The longer battery life and better screen and sound quality are a good welcome. The game card flap being hard could be kinda annoying to some people, but if most your games are digital you probably won’t have a problem and and not being able to use the flip grip doesn’t bother me to much since I barely used it besides you still use with other joy-cons. Like you said you really only enjoy it if you’re mostly in hand held mode

    Man, the OLED does look nice. And I only play my Switch handheld, so that updated screen is super tempting. Reminds me of when I upgraded from my OG 3DS to the New 3DSXL, such a huge improvement. This time wouldn't be nearly as big an improvement, though.

    • @anthonynycholas4230
      @anthonynycholas4230 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same deal here. I only upgraded my 3DS XL to the New 3DS XL because some games were exclusive to it (Super Metroid and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D being among them) If the OLED does the same thing and release some games exclusive to it I'm interested in i'm only sorely tempted in buying it. They might do that with Metroid Prime 4 and Breath of the Wild 2 as both are being heavily worked on and from the looks of E3's gameplay trailer for BotW 2 it might be an OLED exclusive. Potentially for Prime 4 as there's been no news since the only bit of news concerning it was that they scrapped Bandai Namco's version as it didn't meet Nintendo's quality standard and was restarting it with Retro Studios around 2 or 3 years ago who helped made the previous 3 Prime games (a *very* smart move on Nintendo's part.)

    I had the original 2017 Switch. I upgraded to the Oled as I’ve been using the switch more in handheld than docked. I’m happy with the Oled. I don’t have a problem with the game card cover, but the volume controls are a bit too flush for my liking. Maybe it’s muscle memory, but I’m finding that I’m having to tip the console forward so I can see where the buttons are to adjust the sound.

  • @RedGuardianRG92

    The OLED model sure looks very tempting, and with the improved screen to be able to see better when you're out of the house getting some sun it sure is a good way for Nintendo encouraging a more healthy lifestyle for players through the games they develop. Good to think carefully on it, but at least GameStop from what I found out today offers a good trade in value that knocks off roughly half the price of the OLED when you want to trade in your new model. :)

    • @Duckers_McQuack
      @Duckers_McQuack ปีที่แล้ว

      @@savyg715 So, after using the oled for a while, it would depends what you will be doing the most. If you have the switch docked for the most, i'd go with the 2019 model. But as i rarely ever have the switch docked except when there's a game my GF wanna watch, then it will be docked. So the oled is great for that. One thing i will note, is that even though the oled is great, bright, vibrant colors and excellent blacks, that's also the downfall. In games that has night time, there's no "gray" backlit dark areas. If it's black/very dark, it's gonna be pixels that are turned off kind of black :P
      So in dragons dogma, it was night time when i fired it up, i could see the stars, but anything else, pitch black and couldn't see much other than the name tags of my followers lol. So it's great, but you might have to crank up the brightness and gamma ingame/screen to see shit in the night.

    I got the Switch a couple months after launch in 2017, and kept it until Christmas last month when I got the OLED as a gift. I mainly kept my Switch in docked mode, but from time to time took it out to play in hand held mode. I wanted to get the OLED but couldn't justify it just for the bigger internal storage since I digitally buy my games. Since that's all I mainly wanted it for. But I'm happy I got it as a gift and will be using it in hand held mode more once I get a good grip.

  • @DerSystematiker
    @DerSystematiker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just upgraded. Generally I like it. The whole thing feels more solid. I wish they would have improved upon the joycons - making the rail that connects to the console out of metal instead of plastic. They are still a bit wobbly and I expect the wobblyness to increase over time as my previous joycons did. The screen is nice but I wish they would have added an option to choose from a colour profile like you can on all samsung phones and tabled with oled. Nintendos default setting is a little to vibrant. Especially the orange tones pop a little to much. While many others say they can't hear a real difference I like the new speakers. They are quite an improvement - although my Samsung Phone still sounds a little better in terms of stereo split or surround sound.
    I wish they would have made a version with non detachable Joycons and a true D-pad (well, what Nintendo call a Dpad anymay) for protable mode. I Never detach the joycons because they are just rubbish compared to a real controller. So a hybrid between the Switch lite and the OLED with Dock would have been awesome.

    • @brandonchambers963
      @brandonchambers963 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s one of the biggest reasons I’m thinking about upgrading, is for the better speakers and of course the bigger screen. I mostly play handheld so I’m hoping this will be worth the purchase in the end. I hate how quiet the regular switch sounds, even at full volume.
