This puts Alex in a different light, in my eyes. The way he listens to other guys marvel about the game (Pete, Frank, Keith, Papi) is remarkable. He really seems interested in their mindsets and what they have to say.
Yah its good for him to do this it may heal his reputation... Its kind of hard to like a guy that couldn't stay consistent, banged every hot actress he came across, became so arrogant he has a picture of him as a centaur ontop of his bed, and did steroids and lied about it lol

It's so much nicer to hear real baseball players break down this stuff than the analysts. Their insight is great and here you can see Papi talk about other players with respect and knowledge. I'd listen to thee 4 talk about hitting all day!

For people wondering what Papi says at the end... he says "Paul Quantrill", which is the pitcher for the Yankees that Papi took deep to win game 4 of the 2004 ALCS in the bottom of the 12th. Legendary.

A-Rod unbelievably seems like a guy I could spend hours with around the game. I love chatting all aspects of baseball, but to break down mechanics, analyze approach, and talk matchups....it’s really a treat. It truly is awesome seeing 3 legends chop it up like this.

I've seen him (close enough) in person, and that is accurate. He is massive, the way John Henry was massive. He was talking to Jim Thome, and he dwarfed him. Those Auburn boys, I tell you; must be something in the water.
Never seen a more massive, better hitter in my life. People rave about Stanton and Judge and their 500+ feet home runs, but they will never be the hitters Frank was. One of a kind.

I think Yanks and Sox fans, bitter rivals as we are (I'm a Yanks fan) will agree that there are just certain players for each team you have to admire, really like and respect. Mo, Jeter, Papi, I always really enjoyed Nomar Garciaparra personally. Greatness is greatness. I love listening to Papi's high baseball IQ, he really knows the game so well.

As a long time Yankee fan despite the rivalry between the Yankees and Boston, I always liked Ortiz. He had this quiet confidence and determination at the plate. Plus he seemed like a good dude off the field as well. Rivalries are fun and can bring excitement into two teams who played neck and neck with each other for years but I believe you should always give credit where it's due. Ortiz was a great player and I respect him as a person as well.

Mussina was insanely underrated. Even when he didn't have his best stuff he would grind away & find a way. Him, David Cone had that grinder mentality where they could will their way out of jams. Nothing needs to be said about the greatest ever "Mo"

I love this show, these guys have great chemistry together and it shows. A-rod is a great listener and you can tell he genuinely cares and is interested about what any player or coach has to say. Big Papi is hilarious, bringing him was a great add! Way better than MLB Tonight with Harold Reynolds and those other guys

I love sports in general and after listening to countless interviews and perspectives from athletes, I realize just how cerebral sports are at the elite level. Nearly everyone is physically elite at the highest level, but what sets apart the great from the good are their mental approach to the game. The best players are not only the most physically gifted, but mentally gifted as well. You hear the phrase "students of the game" a lot, but the greats truly are 'students of the game'. They study every aspect of their craft and leverage their strengths and minimize their weaknesses to maximize their output in the most productive manner.

The NBA has Open Court. The NFL with all that content from way back is lacking in that department and it’s sad. A Football Life imo doesn’t do justice when we talk about the game. I rather have a round table discussion about the best QBs, RBs, WRs, DBs, Oline or Dline instead of a top 10. Majority of the top 10s on NFL Network are mostly Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, Packers, Giants, Broncos, and Raiders content. 2000s and 2010s have given us some great players from the Colts, Ravens, Saints, and Seahawks.
Have to say that I have a new appreciation and respect for Arod. Love his insight and commentary.

Keith Hernandez in the background pacing back and forth. LOL. That's shows that Keith still wants to get back in the game to play. Keith was pacing anxiously like he was on the on deck circle. I could joke about Keith because Keith is my distant cousin from Spain from the Hernandez grandparent side of one of my parents. My cousins all look like Keith. So, we are very proud of Keith's years in the Majors with the Cardinals and Mets. Ole !!!!!!
I think every baseball player really become wise men and carry themselves like men. Great role models for every boy. Goes to show you how old the game is and how gracefully the players become after. Glad I played and is a fan of baseball.

In 1996 or so (correct me if I'm mistaken) the Mariners had an exhibition against a minor league affiliate.
Afterwards they held a Home-Run Derby. A player, David Arias, was hitting massive home runs, impressing the likes of big-leaguers Ken Griffey, Jr. and A-Rod, who was the Shortstop for the M's at the time. It got to the point where the young A-Rod went to the Mariners General Manager and demanded Arias be called up to the show. Arias did eventually get to the majors, but only after the Mariners traded him away to the Twins. David dropped the name Arias, and began going by another surname.

Of all the Red Sox players of that era that annoyed me, Pedro, Youkalis, Manny, Papelbon, Millar....I could go all day.....However, I've always liked Big Papi. Normally you dislike someone who destroys your team, but there's something different about him compared to the rest.
all those guys listed had egos bigger than yankee stadium. papi had a "i accept that i am nothing until the moment i do something" attitude.

The A-Rod steroid argument aside, he is an incredible ball player who was caught at the tail end of an era plagued by cheaters. To me, his opinion should still be highly respected
Truth. Even before all the PEDs stuff he was still talented. To be honest yes it will help you bulk up but what's the point if you can't make solid contact? A-Rod had a great eye at the plate, could hit for average and power, could run very well as he was capable of stealing a lot of bases, good range on the field with a strong arm to go with it, and he could draw walks. He had a batters eye to not swing at junk. A complete player throughout his career.

I didn't like Ortiz when he played. He was Mr. Red Sox. But the respect he has for other players and a refreshing humbleness turns him into one of my favorite Red Sox. I also love listening to Pedro Martinez break down these young pitchers. None better.

Rivera never had two years like Eckersley in '89 and '90. He also played for the far highest paying team in either league, so he had far more opportunities to save games as the Yankees bought win chances. Hoffman pitched most of his career for a team almost as poor as the Yankees were rich. Also, undoubtedly Rivera came in with larger leads than other closers, especially Hoffman, and had around 30% more save opportunities than Hoffman. There are others but let's face facts: Yankees players get far more credit than they deserve. Derek Jeter five Gold Gloves? Statistically the worst fielding shortstop of the century? Got to nothing and wouldn't move to third for a true Gold Glover, A-Rod? So save your breath on Rivera being the obvious greatest; that's only your opinion, typical New York blather.

Why would all hitters not study pitchers and make said adjustments?
They do. There’s a lot of pitchers out there though and I’m sure it takes some practice to figure out what’s best for each. So maybe it wasn’t something they ever thought of or tried before.

Because David Ortiz would complain if you came in on him. Rivera couldn’t back him off. Knowing that Ortiz stepped up in the box. When Ortiz was in Minnesota he wasn’t no where near the hitter he became in Boston. Mariano knew the holes in his swing. By 2008 Mo knew.. He doesn’t have anymore holes in his swing.
