I’m a 72 year old buzzard bedridden laying here with tears in my eyes. I was a working musician for 30+ years playing pop covers in clubs when young. We never did a Carpenter song because none of us could sing them. There was always something out of reach. She was a gift from God.
I was in weekend Rock/Pop bands for many years and would do solos from time to time - piano/vocal - and would do that Leon Russell song "A Song for You" a lot. Even though most of my Musical friends weren't fans - harder Rock was their cup of tea - but I was. I understood the Magic of her voice! She & Richard were definitely gifts from God! Music is our connection to the Divine. Take care.
So sorry she died so young. I watched a movie about her life. Such talent. She sang beautifully always smiling.but now we know she was mentally distressed I believe and anoxeria killed her. God please understand.
I’m one of the many who was privileged to sing “Sing” with Karen and Richard with my 6th grade class in 1972 at Ricks College, ID. It is my most precious childhood memory. I can’t wait to meet her in the next life. Richard, what a tragedy it must have been for you when she passed. You two will be together again some day and sing together again. ❤❤❤

I'm a 17 year old musician and there just isnt anything like The Carpenters and the music of the 60s-70s today. Karen Carpenter is easily my biggest female inspiration. Her voice is so iconic and weirdly gives me such a nostalgic, warm feeling. I suppose it may be because I have an old soul!! I hope to bring the feel of this era back into today's music :)
I certainly hope you CAN bring this type of music back, just as Michael Buble has done for the standards of the 30s and 40s. We need the type of music that touches our hearts... a quality that we have NOT heard in such a long time! Bless you in your efforts.

When I was driving home some friends awhile ago a Carpenter's song was on my playlist, and suddenly all chatting stopped and everyone kept silence till the end of the song. It was a magical moment, a car speeding trough the night with five friends in it, all impressed by that soft eerie voice from the past. Except me nobody knew who the singer was (ah, the youth of today!) but all agreed that this kind of music is hardly heard anymore and that that's a sad evoltution.

I introduced my kids when they were young to every decades of music. They are in their 30s now, and still listen to Karen Carpenter, Stevie Nicks, and Patsy Cline. They are timeless.
Karen had the kind of voice that comes along maybe once or twice in a lifetime. A pure, natural voice. Very few people had that gift and she was one of them. No voice lessons needed. She is greatly missed by her fans and I count myself as one of them.
I haven’t finished watching the documentary yet. I had no idea that Karen never had voice lessons! I’m even more impressed if this is a fact. She’s one of the most talented singers of the 20th century!
I'm 72 now and sang these songs at weddings, parties, and sad times. All the times of my life. And now I sing them to my grandchildren. They are always golden!
I remember my brother worked for an event coordination company in California - the first thing he told me after meeting them was how super thin they both were. He said it was shocking - that he had never seen anyone as skinny as Karen.😥
My wife sang 'Close To You' to our baby while she was pregnant with him. After he was born and when he cried, I always sing the same song to him and he will immediately stop crying and fall asleep on my shoulder. That's the magic of Karen Carpenter.
There never has been, nor will there ever be, anyone that can compete with the Carpenters. Richard and Karen were one of a kind. They were so good together. And Karen's voice is like a song from a beautiful bird...the one that your ear singles out of all the other birds. It draws you to it, softly, yet with a beauty you cannot describe. To this very day when I hear her singing my heart hurts. She was so beautiful and so was her voice...I still miss her and I miss them.

I was a soldier in Vietnam1970-71, and to this day, I can remember being in the barracks and hearing “Super Star “ on the radio! It made me feel so good!! Karen helped me survive the hell-hole of the war! Her voice was golden and a morale boost!! Richard is a genius!! Have all the albums and a framed 8x10 of Karen on my shelf. We were both born in 1950, only a month apart! She should still be with us!!!
KC did NOT want to come out of her comfort zone behind her drums, but oh, when she did, she astounded us all with her talent and beautiful alto voice. She's been a favorite female singer of mine since I first heard her and took some of her songs and used them in my own performances, always crediting and honoring her when I did so. Her mellow voice was NEVER strident like some sopranos I've heard, always gracious and sweet, she simply left us too early. I wish she could know now, how far her music has gone; she's a legend now!

Well said! I heard lots of folks dismiss his talent and as a musician myself, I always set them straight. Richard's genius is what made their music so good. He really knew how to showcase her gorgeous voice.
With a couple of exceptions, I get choked up every time I hear one of their tunes. Karen's voice will never be matched. And you could recognize one of Richard's arrangements in the first couple of bars. There'll never be another.
What can I say that hasn't already been said, I'm pushing 80 yrs old. and have been around a long time, seen and heard a lot of great super stars, but I fell in love with Karen's voice back at the beginning and have loved it ever since. like the rest of the workd I was devastated when she died. and even today, i sit here with tears in my eyes my heart still aches over her not being here. I am so so grateful for You tube and all the other medias that we have at our disposal to be able to still listen to her melt our hearts away. She's in Gods hands, and our hearts. ECF
My Number 1 will always be Goodbye to Love. Karen’s voice, the lyrics, the harmonies, the guitar solo….. but when there’s that last drum riff and the “Ah-ah-ah’s” kick in and the guitar takes over, I’m just transported.
It's so sad I can't take it. I love Merry Christmas darling and many others but I don't understand the appeal of Goodbye to Love. It hurts too much to hear it. The lyrics almost sicken me.

I'm 71, soon to be 72, and I will love Karen Carpenter to the end of my days. If only she hadn't been robbed of her life so young, can we only imagine what more she would have brought to life with her magical voice. Richard must be very brave to have lost his working partner and beloved sister. Both had divine gifts, Richard has the gift of creative musical arranging and a fine pianist. Karen, a fantastic drummer and singer extradinaire, she sang with the birds in the trees and they were jealous! Rest in Peace, beautiful Lady.

I don’t think it detracts from Karen Carpenter’s legacy nor from Richard to admit there are other - albeit a small subset- uniquely talented, skilled, and powerful musicians. That subset is unique because there’s plenty of good vocalists, or players, or groups, but the Carpenters had actual musicianship and composition woven into their package. That might have been enough to reach the upper echelon but then there was Karen’s voice, and Richard’s skill with arrangement. Success was inevitable even if they didn’t try hard. But they did try at it!

She had the clearest, cleanest voice I have ever heard. Many great singers oftentimes have points in a song where you don't understand what they are singing. Never with Karen. In all of her songs it is easy to hear each word beautifully.

You’re so right! I’ve sung in a choir for many years and the choir mistress was always telling us that the audience should be able to hear every word. If they couldn’t, then it was not their fault, it was ours. We were taught to enunciate all words clearly, to make vowels long, because it wasn’t possible to expand the consonants in the same way and to make sure we were pronouncing the end of a word together, not just trailing off with a slither of s’s for example. So many pop stars now don’t even have to be able to sing and even if they can, it’s edited to make them sound perfect.
Of all the amazing performers who passed far to soon. To me there is none more missed than Karen Carpenter. We can only imagine what great songs could have been made.

I do feel sorry for Richard utterly devestating losing his music partner, his beloved sister. It must feel like time stopped and froze on the day she passed away. She sings every note and word with absolute clarity. The crap today is utter garbage. The Carpenters are timeless their songs masterpieces never to be copied.

There are many genres of music, and even in the field of pop and rock she didn't have the best voice. Besides, music is subjective. Difficult to hold back the tears as I watched this documentary 😢 and in a personal level as well. In 1974 "We only just begun" was my 8th grade graduation song. Back story My music teacher chose the song but most of my classmates didn't want the song as our graduation song. During music class my classmates refused to cooperate with her, in learning the song. One day (just a few weeks from graduation) after having the hardest time to get us to cooperate she burst into tears and said "this song may not mean anything to you all but it's a song that you will treasure the rest of your life then ran out of the classroom. At that moment I and classmate Joe Harris (the tough guys) stood up and made the class realize how the were being toward our music teacher, from day one. After that and "lol" after treating to beat up anyone who refused to cooperate we surprised our teacher by singing the song in its entirely. We made her cry again but with tears of joy. She was right that happened in 1974 and here I am at 63 in 2021 with tears.
I first heard WOJB as a commercial "jingle" in a TV ad for Crocker Bank around 1970. Very catchy tune , what there was of it. Richard Carpenter thought so too, and contacted Paul Williams, the jingle's composer, to flesh it out into a full song. And the rest, as they say, was history.
I'm 63, too, and I remember how popular 7th and 8th grade chorus options were. I can so imagine 8th graders in that day being that way! The Carpenters weren't considered "cool" for us at the time, but I bought their albums anyway, and their songs taught me about romantic relationships.
As a child of the 70's & 80's, this was a bittersweet trip down memory lane. So good to see Richard looking so well. Miss Karen immensely! Cannot believe she's been gone 40 years now😔
I loved everything about them: richard's playfulness at the piano, the melodies and harmonies of the songs, the clarity of the words and correctness of the vowel sounds in karen's singing, the perfect tone and perfect notes of karen's voice, the beautiful blending with richard's voice, the clean fun and messages in the songs, etc. Since my teenage years, their music was part of my daily existence. Later, teaching speech, i would make my students listen to the way karen pronounced the words. When i heard of her death, it felt like losing a close friend or sister. Till now, no other female singer's voice comes close to hers in terms of beautiful, likeable simplicity.
I remember the Carpenters. My best friend at the time was Tyson Neville. He loved this song and I would go to his house to listen to them. I guess I did something wrong and he stopped talking to me, but I always remember the Carpenters and this song.

My sister's looks has always reminded of Karen Carpenter, especially when my sister lost weight because of breast cancer that metastasized. Anyway, the portion of your comment that speaks of feeling like you lost a sister when Karen died really shocked me because that is how I felt at the time. Then, when my sister died in 2004, looking so much like Karen Carpenter, they have been intertwined in my emotions since that time. I cry whenever I think about either of them. As crazy as it may seem, I recently discovered that both my sister and Karen were born on March 2nd (two years apart). Karen died in 1983 on my birthday. They are forever in my heart.
I totally agree with you about no other female singer's voice coming close to Karen's. She was gifted with a voice that, fortunately, she shared with us. She left us much too soon. The morning of my wedding, in 1976, my dad was having breakfast at the kitchen table as I prepared something to eat before leaving for the wedding venue. Suddenly the radio began playing,“We’ve only just begun”, and I became emotional. It seemed like a voice from heaven telling this 22 year old California girl that she was making the right decision. In August we will celebrate our 45th anniversary. Thank you Karen and Richard 😌

Being born in 1981, I was brought up to the late 60s and 70s music during my grade school years. I never really appreciated it at the time, but now 35 years later I realize how special that era was and the talent that oozed out of that era in pop music. Nostalgia for me during this era is a funny thing. It is wonderful and at the same time it hurts knowing that you only have the visions of how amazing and special that time was. Longing for the past. To quote one of my favorite movies "it reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again"....Field of Dreams. This music reminds us of a simpler time. And for us to young to remember, it serves as a beautiful vision of what once was been. How lucky were those alive then to experience it! And how lucky are we all to have the legacy continue forever with the music.🥺

I'm surprised more hearts didn't stop when hers did. Her tone, the emotion she coaxed out of every note... she was butterscotch- caramel gold. Her honeyed tones have never been replicated. Richard is the genius behind the arrangements & signature harmonies. The result is unspeakable, haunting beautiful art.

In the liner notes of a greatest hits compilation, Richard said more people wrote to him, regarding "We've Only Just Begun," than any other song, revealing that that song literally saved their lives. The message of present joys and future hope, came on, just as they were seriously considering ending their pain, by their own hands. Many were reduced to tears, and bravely, would struggle on. Imagine - a piece of music and lyrics could sway the minds of those who wanted to take the easy way out, and imbued them with the strength to carry on, opting for the much tougher road of continuing to live. Every time that I hear a Carpenter's song I think of my oldest brother that passed away and it's bitter sweet bcuz I get a little sad but then i'm so happy bcuz I miss him and I loved him so much and I was so blessed to have him as my brother. Richard was a musical genius and Karen's voice was so angelic

My dad played lots of Carpenters in the car when I was a kid, I've always loved Karen's voice. The older I get though, the more I appreciate the genius of Richard.
I am so very grateful that I had the privilege of attending a live Carpenter’s concert in college. The music was magnificent, of course, but I will never forget their slideshow presentation with a beautiful tribute to their family and especially their parents. I was so impressed that in the middle of a pop concert they would do something showing such a beautiful depth of gratitude and character. I was also surprised to learn that virtually every one of the musicians in the band had their Master’s degrees. Everything about them was class. I will always be sad about Karen’s loss The lesson everyone should learn from her loss is to be truly careful with our words and to choose to build people up or else say nothing at all. I hope the rude person who said the crushing untrue words to her that she was “fat”, has lived to regret it. Thank you Karen and Richard for all you gave the world.

Karen's voice harmonized with my soul. I don't know any other way to describe her voice, it was and still is so unique. I turn 70 in a week and I still stop when I hear one of their songs on the radio and listen to every note. Their melody always sounded like soft, sweet breezes whispering through pine trees.
I can't begin to say how much I love the Carpenters and their music. The Hits 1969-1973 was one of the first 8-tracks I bought when I was 13 and had been given a portable 8-track player by my mother.

I’m one of the many who was privileged to sing “Sing” with Karen and Richard with my 6th grade class in 1972 at Ricks College, ID. It is my most precious childhood memory. I can’t wait to meet her in the next life. Richard, what a tragedy it must have been for you when she passed. You two will be together again some day and sing together again. ❤❤❤

I'm a 17 year old musician and there just isnt anything like The Carpenters and the music of the 60s-70s today. Karen Carpenter is easily my biggest female inspiration. Her voice is so iconic and weirdly gives me such a nostalgic, warm feeling. I suppose it may be because I have an old soul!! I hope to bring the feel of this era back into today's music :)

When I was driving home some friends awhile ago a Carpenter's song was on my playlist, and suddenly all chatting stopped and everyone kept silence till the end of the song. It was a magical moment, a car speeding trough the night with five friends in it, all impressed by that soft eerie voice from the past. Except me nobody knew who the singer was (ah, the youth of today!) but all agreed that this kind of music is hardly heard anymore and that that's a sad evoltution.

I introduced my kids when they were young to every decades of music. They are in their 30s now, and still listen to Karen Carpenter, Stevie Nicks, and Patsy Cline. They are timeless.
Karen had the kind of voice that comes along maybe once or twice in a lifetime. A pure, natural voice. Very few people had that gift and she was one of them. No voice lessons needed. She is greatly missed by her fans and I count myself as one of them.
I haven’t finished watching the documentary yet. I had no idea that Karen never had voice lessons! I’m even more impressed if this is a fact. She’s one of the most talented singers of the 20th century!
What is a lifetime? 1 year? 8 years? 105 years? Or in Karen's case, 32.9 years.🙄🥱🤡
I'm 72 now and sang these songs at weddings, parties, and sad times. All the times of my life. And now I sing them to my grandchildren. They are always golden!
I remember my brother worked for an event coordination company in California - the first thing he told me after meeting them was how super thin they both were. He said it was shocking - that he had never seen anyone as skinny as Karen.😥
My wife sang 'Close To You' to our baby while she was pregnant with him. After he was born and when he cried, I always sing the same song to him and he will immediately stop crying and fall asleep on my shoulder. That's the magic of Karen Carpenter.

There never has been, nor will there ever be, anyone that can compete with the Carpenters. Richard and Karen were one of a kind. They were so good together. And Karen's voice is like a song from a beautiful bird...the one that your ear singles out of all the other birds. It draws you to it, softly, yet with a beauty you cannot describe. To this very day when I hear her singing my heart hurts. She was so beautiful and so was her voice...I still miss her and I miss them.

I was a soldier in Vietnam1970-71, and to this day, I can remember being in the barracks and hearing “Super Star “ on the radio! It made me feel so good!! Karen helped me survive the hell-hole of the war! Her voice was golden and a morale boost!! Richard is a genius!! Have all the albums and a framed 8x10 of Karen on my shelf. We were both born in 1950, only a month apart! She should still be with us!!!

What most people forget is that Karen Carpenter was a kick-ass drummer as well as a very outstanding vocalist.
KC did NOT want to come out of her comfort zone behind her drums, but oh, when she did, she astounded us all with her talent and beautiful alto voice. She's been a favorite female singer of mine since I first heard her and took some of her songs and used them in my own performances, always crediting and honoring her when I did so. Her mellow voice was NEVER strident like some sopranos I've heard, always gracious and sweet, she simply left us too early. I wish she could know now, how far her music has gone; she's a legend now!
And her pure joy at the drums was contagious

Well said! I heard lots of folks dismiss his talent and as a musician myself, I always set them straight. Richard's genius is what made their music so good. He really knew how to showcase her gorgeous voice.
With a couple of exceptions, I get choked up every time I hear one of their tunes. Karen's voice will never be matched. And you could recognize one of Richard's arrangements in the first couple of bars. There'll never be another.

What can I say that hasn't already been said, I'm pushing 80 yrs old. and have been around a long time, seen and heard a lot of great super stars, but I fell in love with Karen's voice back at the beginning and have loved it ever since. like the rest of the workd I was devastated when she died. and even today, i sit here with tears in my eyes my heart still aches over her not being here. My Number 1 will always be Goodbye to Love. Karen’s voice, the lyrics, the harmonies, the guitar solo….. but when there’s that last drum riff and the “Ah-ah-ah’s” kick in and the guitar takes over, I’m just transported.
It's so sad I can't take it. I love Merry Christmas darling and many others but I don't understand the appeal of Goodbye to Love. It hurts too much to hear it. The lyrics almost sicken me.

Growing up in the 70s I remember hearing the Carpenters' songs play on the radio. They were good times.
I'm 71, soon to be 72, and I will love Karen Carpenter to the end of my days. If only she hadn't been robbed of her life so young, can we only imagine what more she would have brought to life with her magical voice. Richard must be very brave to have lost his working partner and beloved sister. Both had divine gifts, Richard has the gift of creative musical arranging and a fine pianist. Karen, a fantastic drummer and singer extradinaire, she sang with the birds in the trees and they were jealous! Rest in Peace, beautiful Lady.

I don’t think it detracts from Karen Carpenter’s legacy nor from Richard to admit there are other - albeit a small subset- uniquely talented, skilled, and powerful musicians.
That subset is unique because there’s plenty of good vocalists, or players, or groups, but the Carpenters had actual musicianship and composition woven into their package. That might have been enough to reach the upper echelon but then there was Karen’s voice, and Richard’s skill with arrangement.
Success was inevitable even if they didn’t try hard. But they did try at it!

She had the clearest, cleanest voice I have ever heard. Many great singers oftentimes have points in a song where you don't understand what they are singing. Never with Karen. In all of her songs it is easy to hear each word beautifully.

You’re so right! I’ve sung in a choir for many years and the choir mistress was always telling us that the audience should be able to hear every word. If they couldn’t, then it was not their fault, it was ours. We were taught to enunciate all words clearly, to make vowels long, because it wasn’t possible to expand the consonants in the same way and to make sure we were pronouncing the end of a word together, not just trailing off with a slither of s’s for example. So many pop stars now don’t even have to be able to sing and even if they can, it’s edited to make them sound perfect.

I do feel sorry for Richard utterly devestating losing his music partner, his beloved sister. It must feel like time stopped and froze on the day she passed away. I have loved the Carpenters since I was 8 years old. Pure clean music for everyone. Her voice had such clarity and emotional range. May Richard know that he and his sister made this once young girl happy. Now that I am older I appreciate them so much more 🙏❤️

Difficult to hold back the tears as I watched this documentary 😢 and in a personal level as well. In 1974 "We only just begun" was my 8th grade graduation song. Back story My music teacher chose the song but most of my classmates didn't want the song as our graduation song. During music class my classmates refused to cooperate with her, in learning the song. One day (just a few weeks from graduation) after having the hardest time to get us to cooperate she burst into tears and said "this song may not mean anything to you all but it's a song that you will treasure the rest of your life then ran out of the classroom. At that moment I and classmate Joe Harris (the tough guys) stood up and made the class realize how the were being toward our music teacher, from day one. After that and "lol" after treating to beat up anyone who refused to cooperate we surprised our teacher by singing the song in its entirely. We made her cry again but with tears of joy. She was right that happened in 1974 and here I am at 63 in 2021 with tears.

I first heard WOJB as a commercial "jingle" in a TV ad for Crocker Bank around 1970. Very catchy tune , what there was of it. Richard Carpenter thought so too, and contacted Paul Williams, the jingle's composer, to flesh it out into a full song.
And the rest, as they say, was history.
I'm 63, too, and I remember how popular 7th and 8th grade chorus options were. I can so imagine 8th graders in that day being that way! The Carpenters weren't considered "cool" for us at the time, but I bought their albums anyway, and their songs taught me about romantic relationships.

As a child of the 70's & 80's, this was a bittersweet trip down memory lane. So good to see Richard looking so well. Miss Karen immensely! Cannot believe she's been gone 40 years now😔
I loved everything about them: richard's playfulness at the piano, the melodies and harmonies of the songs, the clarity of the words and correctness of the vowel sounds in karen's singing, the perfect tone and perfect notes of karen's voice, the beautiful blending with richard's voice, the clean fun and messages in the songs, etc. Since my teenage years, their music was part of my daily existence. Later, teaching speech, i would make my students listen to the way karen pronounced the words. When i heard of her death, it felt like losing a close friend or sister. Till now, no other female singer's voice comes close to hers in terms of beautiful, likeable simplicity.
I remember the Carpenters. My best friend at the time was Tyson Neville. He loved this song and I would go to his house to listen to them. I guess I did something wrong and he stopped talking to me, but I always remember the Carpenters and this song.

the portion of your comment that speaks of feeling like you lost a sister when Karen died really shocked me because that is how I felt at the time. Then, when my sister died in 2004, looking so much like Karen Carpenter, they have been intertwined in my emotions since that time. I cry whenever I think about either of them. As crazy as it may seem, I recently discovered that both my sister and Karen were born on March 2nd (two years apart). Karen died in 1983 on my birthday. They are forever in my heart.

The morning of my wedding, in 1976, my dad was having breakfast at the kitchen table as I prepared something to eat before leaving for the wedding venue. Suddenly the radio began playing,“We’ve only just begun”, and I became emotional. It seemed like a voice from heaven telling this 22 year old California girl that she was making the right decision. In August we will celebrate our 45th anniversary. Thank you Karen and Richard 😌

Being born in 1981, I was brought up to the late 60s and 70s music during my grade school years. I never really appreciated it at the time, but now 35 years later I realize how special that era was and the talent that oozed out of that era in pop music. Nostalgia for me during this era is a funny thing. It is wonderful and at the same time it hurts knowing that you only have the visions of how amazing and special that time was. Longing for the past. To quote one of my favorite movies "it reminds us of all that once was good, and could be again"....Field of Dreams. This music reminds us of a simpler time. And for us to young to remember, it serves as a beautiful vision of what once was been. How lucky were those alive then to experience it! And how lucky are we all to have the legacy continue forever with the music.🥺

We’ve only just begun was played at my wedding in 1975. It took a week convincing my pastor to allow it. It wasn’t until he heard her sing it. She won over my pastor. So thank you. Great video. Still brings me joy to hear the Carpenters sing.

I grew up in Asia and I heard her music every where I go in 70s . I still listen to her music until now and it makes me feel emotional every times .She has the most beautiful voice ever ! Thank you for this awesome documentary and I wish you the best Richard !

The message of present joys and future hope, came on, just as they were seriously considering ending their pain, by their own hands. Many were reduced to tears, and bravely, would struggle on. Imagine - a piece of music and lyrics could sway the minds of those who wanted to take the easy way out, and imbued them with the strength to carry on, opting for the much tougher road of continuing to live. Every time that I hear a Carpenter's song I think of my oldest brother that passed away and it's bitter sweet bcuz I get a little sad but then i'm so happy bcuz I miss him and I loved him so much and I was so blessed to have him as my brother. Richard was a musical genius and Karen's voice was so angelic
It’s so hard for me to listen to an hour of Karen’s voice without being moved to tears. Such a magnificent voice, such a tragic loss. Karen was loved by everyone....everyone but herself. 😢❣️

Maybe I'm missing something but why didn't her brother, her family, SOMEONE c how thin she was becoming and help her!! She looked so sad even when she smiled... Karen Carpenter had the best pop female voice. Unfortunately, she had a glaring lack of confidence. I still miss her.
@@katherineleonowski7289 My guess would be people tried to help her but I don't think you can stop someone do this to themselves without the right help. How much did they understand this problem, back then. I don't know. People in her industry made her feel fat or even told her that. So terrible. I also love there songs. She was amazing.
@@katherineleonowski7289 This video doesn't show how much her friends and family tried, desperately to help her, to warn her about her gold digging husband who broke her heart. There's another, better one for that. This one celebrates their music moving towards the favorite.
I was a toddler when they came out with their songs, but as I grew up and heard her voice, I was absolutely mesmerized by it. Pure, perfect and haunting.
My dad played lots of Carpenters in the car when I was a kid, I've always loved Karen's voice. The older I get though, the more I appreciate the genius of Richard.
I am so very grateful that I had the privilege of attending a live Carpenter’s concert in college. The music was magnificent, of course, but I will never forget their slideshow presentation with a beautiful tribute to their family and especially their parents. I was so impressed that in the middle of a pop concert they would do something showing such a beautiful depth of gratitude and character. I was also surprised to learn that virtually every one of the musicians in the band had their Master’s degrees. Everything about them was class.
I will always be sad about Karen’s loss The lesson everyone should learn from her loss is to be truly careful with our words and to choose to build people up or else say nothing at all. I hope the rude person who said the crushing untrue words to her that she was “fat”, has lived to regret it.

Karen's voice harmonized with my soul. I don't know any other way to describe her voice, it was and still is so unique. I turn 70 in a week and I still stop when I hear one of their songs on the radio and listen to every note. Their melody always sounded like soft, sweet breezes whispering through pine trees.
I can't begin to say how much I love the Carpenters and their music. The Hits 1969-1973 was one of the first 8-tracks I bought when I was 13 and had been given a portable 8-track player by my mother.
