Such a lovely project. You’re the first person who’s ever demonstrated how to count stitches three ways. I appreciate you for this.
I had the same thought. I never understood it before.
You are so welcome! It took me a long time to figure it out myself since different instructors count in different ways. I figured I would show you all three so you can understand more :) I'm glad it helped!
I'm glad it helped!
Any recommendations for yarn subs?
How many skeins did this blanket take, love this pattern
I used 15 skeins for the blanket and 2 for the border :)
@@redesignedrose thank you
I'm loving this stitch, and it looks beautiful...but I'm so very frustrated because my blanket width keeps shrinking. Consequently the sides are angled. I've ripped it out and started over four times, even though the blanket was already 2 feet long. My first couple of rows have 61 stars, but the row I'm currently on has just 51. It's about 5 feet long, so i don't have the heart to rip it all out again. I'm hoping that the border will hide the problem somewhat, but it still bothers me because it's not perfect. I had hoped to give it as a Christmas gift, but I guess I'll be keeping this one. 😥. The problem area for me seems to be at the end of the odd-numbered rows, with the first row of stars being Row 1. So the right side of the blanket is Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. I've listened to the instructions in the video over and over again and have difficulty with the end of each of those odd-numbered rows. I don't understand how I've managed to lose so many stitches along the way. 🤔
Counting the starts and making sure they stack on top of the star in the previous row is the best way to keep your rows even. I’ve “practiced and kept a few” projects myself before getting it just right. Don’t give up you can do this!
Just another suggestion place a stitch marker in the last stitch on the row, then you’ll know where to finish the row
At the end of row 2 and turn, this makes the new row 3 (right hand side) start with 3 chain to start the star row again .. hope I have the right/left sides ok ..
When you finish the star row (odd row) with 1 chain left over, work the last star with 5 instead of 6 loops ... yo and pull loop through 5 sts and do 1 chain and turn.
Next row, make sure you do 1 half double crochet in first eye .. I found this first eye a bit hard to find at first ... I mucked up a bit because of this ...
Then continue with 2 half double crochet in every eye ..
Hope I have this right for you ..
It takes time for nearly all of us to get in the swing of things ... I'm one of them .. good luck and keep going....
I'm having exactly the same. Problem...

Redesign Rose, I have a question I love this pattern I am going to start it, I do have a question though, can you use the basix chunky yarn for the border as well? There is not a color in the anti pilling that matches the chunky yarn I want to use. If so how many skeins would you suggest to get ? Thank you, love your tutorials
How many yards for a baby blanket do I need please
For a baby blanket I would use half of what I did in the video which is listed below:
Premier Basix Chunky Yarn - Color "Linen" (15 Skeins)
Premier Anti Pilling Yarn - Color "Linen" (2 Skeins)
8mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Chain on 123 (Multiples of 2 PLUS 3)
78 Rows (39 Full Star Rows)
Final Blanket Size : 50" x 60"
Absolutely beautiful! I'm going to give it a try. Your video is excellent and you are an amazing instructor. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome! Thank you for being here :)
When I learn this beautiful stitch, I will make a wrap and scarf. It’s a bit confusing for me as a beginner, but I know I will learn this and then I will crochet alongside with tutor/teacher. I am a visual learner and I don’t understand patterns. Thank you 🙏 😊
Me too! You can do this and you will LOVE your wrap and scarf 🥰
Hi how many balls of yarn did you use for the star stitch blanket,
Same question. I've got a big stash, but don't want to run out of a certain dye lot
All of the materials used are in the description of the video 🥰
@@redesignedrose just answer question!
How many yards for this size blanket? That helps in the begining of a tutorial. 😊 I like projects I can work from my yarn hoard 😂
The materials used are in the description of the video 🥰
Beginner crocheter here and new subscriber! Beautiful blanket! I would like to try and make one for my son who is away at college!
Thank you for subscribing! My oldest son is in the Navy and he absolutely loves the blanket so send him. I hope your son loves it as much 🥰
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful stitch, definitely I got inspired to make it ❤
This looks beautiful, you explain it very well. I have wanted to try this stitch for a long time. Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome 😊 You can do it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for talking about how to count stitches!
You are so welcome! When I was first learning I couldn’t find anyone who explained it and it took forever to learn. I wanted to make sure my subscribers didn’t have to go through that.
L I K E 👍🏿👍🏼 💯💥💯💥💯 👍🏼👍🏿 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful!! How many yards of yarn do you think you will use by the time it is complete
It's very pretty can I use a 6 weight for this blanket
Yes absolutely! I would adjust your hook size up just so the blanket does not end up being too stiff :)
When she says eye I get flashback of the movie Coraline....😢 I m glad buttons are not involved. I m such a kid.
For me I always think of “the eye of the storm” 🙃
Technically, when you crochet from the right to the left, in row 2, you are saying chain 1 or chain 2. They look like a sc, single crochet, to me. It's a beautiful pattern, every 2 rows!
Thank you very much!
Wow nice pattern always want to learn this so easy wow Love it nice to explain live it I am going to try it❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤
I hope you enjoy!
I have been knitting for years and have been wanting to learn how to crochet for years and because of your tutorial on how to make this beautiful blanket I believe I can try this…. Thank You So Very Much!
You are so welcome! Thank you for your very kind words :)
Beautiful stitch, I'm going to learn crochet and can't wait to knit
Wonderful!
This is a beautiful blanket, Loving the stars stitch something new to learn... I have 18 x100g chunky yarn skeins at 50m... will this amount of wool be enough to do this blanket?
Thank you 😊
Yes, I believe so!
Wow!! This was such a great video!!!
Glad you liked it!!
😊😊Both your explanation and your demonstration are easy to follow and understand. Thanks!😊😊
So nice of you, thank you!
I’m so glad I found your Chanel. Love this tutorial
Thank you so much, I'm glad you are here!
Excellent instructions making it beginner-friendly. Thank you. I subscribed. ❤🎉
Thank you so much for being here!
Hi 👋 I made it pretty far and I e decided to start over. Something wasn’t right with the size. I was off on some rows. But my first try, 123 chains did not make a 50” wide piece… I am using 5.29oz yarn 100% wool. So I’m wondering what I may have done wrong? I’m starting new and I’m going to measure my chains after the first row.
Your yarn may be a smaller size than mine used in the tutorial. If you would like to adjust yours to make a 50" wide blanket simply chain on as many as you need with your yarn in an even number and measure 50", then add 3 more chains :) Same with the number of rows, just simply work up the number of rows you need to get to the length you would like. I hope this helps :)
So very beautiful. You did a wonderful job job teaching how to do this blanket snd the border as well. Thank you so very much.
You are so welcome! Your kind words mean so much to me 🥰
Beautiful yarn eater. I love it!❤
This is gorgeous, love the star, I'm going to watch, thank you.
Thank you very much!
How would this work for 100% cotton yard, multi color yard, 3.5 needle, for a baby blanket.
This would definitely work with any size yarn and corresponding needle. The color options are endless :) The smaller the yarn and needle, however will just mean a smaller blanket if you use the same number of stitches. If you want the same size blanket with a smaller yarn you will just have to add more chains in the beginning creating more stars in each row as well as more rows :)
Is this pattern done by English crochet stitches or USA? English double crochet is single crochet in USA .. treble in english is double crochet US .. double treble in english is treble in US .. triple treble in English is double treble in US ... half treble is htr english, in US its hdc ...
Thank you
Great question. All of these are USA stitches
I love this blanket! Thank you for being so thorough in explanation! I've just subscribed so I am following!
Awww thank you so much! I hope you enjoy ❤️
You make it simplified ❤
Thank you very much!
Your work is awesome. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you too!
Love your style, and the beautiful star stitch blanket!
Wow, thank you!
I'm very new to this, so thank you so much for this tutorial! It's beautiful. 😊
I have a bulky 6. Is an 8 hook too small?
You are very welcome and those sizes are perfect!
Your Movie Night Throw is really pretty! I plan on starting it tomorrow. Just wanted to know if the foundation row multiple is any even number?
Thank you so much! If you want the same size blanket I did I started with a chain of 120 plus 3. But yes you can do any size you like with an even number and then add three at the end :)
Have started making a shawl using this pattern for my mother in law.
Love from India ❤
I bet it will be beautiful! Love to India :)

If I want to make it longer than the size blanket you made… how many chains do I start with?

Don’t give up! Sometimes it takes me many tries before getting something and it’s so rewarding once I finally do!
You teach so well, i really understand and am gonna try my son's blanket. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️
Is there a cotton yarn that is the equivalent to the specified yarn?
The yarn I used is a #5 bulky yarn. So any cotton yarn that is a #5 would work :)
I’d love to do this blanket. I see in the description you’ve recommended a certain yarn and # of skeins but how much in yards of yarn for the blanket and border? Since I might switch yarns. Thx in advance
I used two skeins for the border 🥰🥰
@@redesignedrose right! So does 1,755 yards sound right for the blanket?
I love this and cant wait to make blanket, scarfs and hats with it! 😃
They will all surely be beautiful!
I really love how you slow things down where everyone can understand the instructions and see what your talking about. I’m glad I found your channel.❤
Thank you! I’m so glad you are here 🥰
You are an Awesome Teacher/ Instructor. I am going to save this video and make it for sure. It is Beautiful. The color and type of yarn you choose for this afghan is perfect ❤ thank you ❤
Wow, thank you! You will love your finished blanket!
I have just started mine and I am on row 7 and can not stop. Thank you teaching me this stitch
The Star stitch is beautiful. Thank you! Your explanation is great.
Thank you! 😊
I tried to make this blanket it kept curling into a circle
hmmmm, I'm not sure what might have gone wrong there.
When you say pull through and chain one I see a slip stitch
Yes that’s correct!
Why only a partial star on one end and not full one ?
It was just part of my pattern to create the size I needed. It is completely your preference. Just work your size in multiples of 2 and then add 3 more at the end. :)
Can you make a sweater with this stich
Yes you can!
I love this blanket and the stitch. I love making blankets and throws.
Me too! Is it possible to make too many? 🥰
Thank you for sharing this beautiful Afghan.
You are so very welcome!
Just so beautiful..and the way you explained it, made it so easy..Thank you ..❤
Subscribed!
Thanks and welcome
Thanks, this is lovely, but would have appreciated you explaining how to “turn your work”. As a beginner I tried to “turn” but the stitches are all messed. I am not doing something right. 😢
Go to 15:07 in the video :) There I turn my work and start the next row so you can see :)
I have been crocheting for 50 years but never tried this beautiful pattern, but you made it so easy to understand. Can i use DK weight for this pattern too? Thank you again and i happily subscribed.
I’m honored to have you! 🥰 yes you can! It might be fun to try doubling your strands of the dk weight yarn for added texture and so you can add some bulk to your project.
You have Vitiligo like me!
I do!!! It started about 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my twins. They thought it was just hormones until it kept spreading and I found out my older brother is covered head to toe!
Love the blanket, can i do this with size 4 yarn? Im a senior citizen, cant afford that yarn. Thank you very much❤❤❤
Yes you can! It will be beautiful!
I’m new to knitting. I’m absolutely wanting to use natural wool yarn. Do you foresee any problems using this with your pattern aside from general washing and care issues? Thanks
Not at all
Just stumbled onto this video. I have not crocheted in many years. I have recently retired and think it would be a perfect pastime for me. This pattern looks amazing and fairly easy. I can’t wait to start!
This is wonderful! Sometimes we just need a little inspiration to get our creative going :)
I’m 63 years young and my mom tried to teach me to crochet through my childhood and as an adult. She made baby blankets and made the most gorgeous doilies. I wish I’d stuck with it over the hard learning times, and am so happy to have found your channel because I believe that I can follow your tutorials this winter to finally be successful with a project.
@valerierandall3640 I had the exact same mum .. she was an incredible crocheter .. gorgeous doilies, even nice hankies.. I lost count of how many beautiful rugs she made .. I wish I had learnt more from her .. if only we could have our mums back for 5 minutes..I have a crochet prob I want to ask her .. I stuck with knitting .. I can knit anything .. if only ... 😇🤗
@@janetsaggus7408 Yes, if only!
I can't begin to tell you how much this means to me! I am teaching my youngest daughters too and I hope it stays with them forever.
Yes, if only. I had the most amazing mom too.
@@valerierandall3640 I’m 65 years young and I went on retirement last year. I learnt to crochet from an older lady in the neighborhood up the road from us and also from my friends mom. I was about 12 years old. I absolutely loved it. Cotton crochet and numerous blankets. Later got married after high school and had my children and during this time no I never picked up a crochet hook. I learnt using all the British terms of crochet so I kind of get confused with the American terminology. Since retiring I’ve started crocheting again, albeit that I’m rusty. I’m absolutely loving it. It’s so therapeutic. I learn better from the video tutorials. The written patterns I can get confused or stuck with the terminology.
Beautiful pattern! Nice clear instructions 👍
I’d like to to add that through personal experience, if a right handed person is teaching a left handed person it works great to sit across from one another to get a “mirror affect “
Keep up the great work, thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate the way you demonstrated the stitch and spoke in a slow methodical voice for your listeners to hear and understand, I am a somewhat seasoned crocheter and a new subscriber. The blanket is gorgeous and can't wait to try out the pattern myself. ❤👍👍
I appreciate your kind words, thank you very much! Welcome to my channel, I am very happy you are here!
How many stars do I need per row?
You can adjust this pattern to any size you like. My pattern ended up with 39 stars in each row.
This is adorable! You are such a great teacher! Thank you 🙏. I've been crocheting (not extremely actively) for about two years, but I'm not very talented at it. I want to be able to grow but I just lack talent. Tutorials like this can help me to make complicated looking stitches regardless of my skill level.
You are so welcome! I didn't have the "talent" either in the beginning. It's all about practice! And then enjoying your own handmade projects for encouragement for more!
Wondering how skiens did you use
She said 15 skeins in another comment
Yes all of the supplies used are in the video description 🥰
For some reason, I'm only ending up with 3 stars. 😢 Starting over again..
Don't give up! you CAN do it :)

I use to crochet all the time and now I have arthritis so bad in my hands it's difficult to do anymore. I love the star stich maybe I'll give it a go.
I too have arthritis in my neck and it causes my hands to go numb. Just be sure to take lots of breaks and stretch your hands :)
This is so beautiful I can’t wait to try it!!! I will be using pure wool yarn that is 5.29oz. So I imagine it will be a little thicker than yours. I’m a novice… do you think the thicker yarn will disrupt the amount of stitches etc you’ve demonstrated in the video? Any tips for my adjustments?
The type of yarn won’t affect anything, but the size of the yarn will. If it’s just a little bigger it would just make your blanket larger if you stay with the same number of stitches. Be sure to use a size hook recommended by your yarn ❤️
@@redesignedrose thank you! Yes I believe I need a 9-12mm size for the 5.29 oz yarn.
TYU so much
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
When I am learning a new stitch, I watch at least 5 or so videos to find the one where there's music and a narrative. I also like to know the why because it helps with other projects and getting to the end of the row. This video is easy to follow along and I didn't have to adjust the speed in the settings!
I am so glad this was helpful and I am glad you are here :)
I really like how you explain the steps slowly and clearly. Ive watched this star stitch on a few other channels but either the videos weren't clear enough or the verbal directions were confusing. Im glad I didnt give up and found this vodeo because now Im confident I can make this stitch. Thanks❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! YES you can do this!!
Just came upon your channel and quickly subscribed . Your soothing voice and clear explanation of details is perfect for beginners and I love this blanket. I’m going to look for this yarn you used online , how many skeins would you recommend for a King size bed?
Welcome aboard! For a king size bed you are looking at a giant number of skeins and that would be quite a project. However, if you are willing to take on the task it would be an heirloom to be cherished forever!
@@redesignedrose I ordered the same yarn and color that you used and began my Afghan and quit after the first 10 or so rows because I had already went through 3 skeins by then lol so now I’m crocheting a baby blanket lol. Thank you again :)

Thank you!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful
Thank you so much!
What size hook should I use for a size 4 weight yarn? I'm so excited to try this. Years ago my mother in law taught me a pattern to crochet and it was so pretty, but for the life of me I can't remember what to do. I'm so happy I found your channel. You explain everything so well. I subscribed also.
Your yarn should have a recommendation on the package for the size hook needed. I would then go up half a size from there just so your blanket isn't too tight or stiff :)
I’m a beginner to crochet & I watch a lot of videos to help me improve, so thank you for your easy to understand instructions. I love the star pattern & your blanket is beautiful. Thank you for the counting tip. I always struggle with that. I’m definitely going to try a practice swatch. Do you think you could do some videos on how to edge?
