It’s crazy coming back to this video 6 years later finally being able to all these grids, but back then I use to look at then thinking “Absolute fucking legends among gods”
3 years after this comment, I still think they all sound the same but now instead of my hair being like the guy on the left, its more like the guy in the middle! :(
Thanks Zach, dirty beats are the bane of my existence. They're like a knife twisting in my heart. Of course when you're trying stuff that you haven't done in a decade and having fun it's OK (except that one bad attack). You may notice how the flam 5's were much better than the others, we were re-learning as we went. If we did a take two of this video it'd be half as long! :)
I thought Allen looked familiar, and assumed it was my marching days. Looked up his bio and yep, marched 95 and saw Crossmen a bunch. Marched 99-01 and he taught crown 00-01. Saw them several times those years too. Saw his 98 Pasic snare solo live. Guess I've been around him quite a bit lol.
A grid is taking the natural rudiment and moving the accent around 4 times each, then 2 times each, then 1 time each ex. Flam Drag on1 (accent on the first) play the standard flam drag 4 times on 2 (accent on the second) then play the flam drag 4 more times but this time move the accent to the diddle (the drag) on3 (accent on the third) then play the flam drag 4 more times but this time move the accent to the tap after the diddle THEN....... do all that but chance the number 4 to 2....... THEN do the previous step but chage 2 to 1 Then instead of the sequence being "on1 on2 on3"......do "on2, on3, on1" and "on3, on1, on3" It works well with triplet based rudiments and you can also do it with binary based rudiments as well. Grids are a good way to exponetially expand your rudiment capabilities and playing capabilities
Mickey burmer the guy on the right as it appears, is my percussion teacher ...... and im in honors band and im wondering if we will learn this in high school or at the end of middle school.
...amazing display of skills, and a reminder of the hours/days/months/years of practice/repetition required to get to this level. It's incentive that if I want to improve, I should get off the damn internet & back to the woodshed NOW!! 😬
wow not seen Allen or Mickey drumming since 2000... Allen is prob keeping quiet he is the king of the grid :) he could prob play with doubles and in reverese....
+John Ray Lol they are moving the diddle around a triplet. When they say on the 1 its the downbeat of a triplet. On 2 is the "e" of the triplet and so on. And they are doing it on the 4-2-1 grid.
Tgamer 3201 DO NOT BUY THEM... I made a full on tenor pad that looks exactly like this and it only was like 50 dollars compared to the 150-200. I just cut out an identical polygon, but some mute pads of different sizes, cut the pads like the quadropad, and then pasted everything down with contact cement
I prefer seeing the process. It’s fun, genuine, and shows what it’s really like to dig up the hard stuff. That’s what I respect about bill, he’s very humble.
J.P Tomba there’s probably not a place to find sheets for all of this, research what the triplet 4-2-1 grid is and research what a flan drag is, what a cheese is, and what a flam 5 is.
Imagine the world we would live in... if people stopped fighting each other over their petty differences... and just played grids together.
💖🥁😇🥁💖
If only I could even play like this
I agree
99.9% learned. Now play all of them without stopping 😂😂😂 award to anyone who can do that
drumcorpsboy1 got it 😂
I’m can’t. Never been good:(
@@Brian-rj1un I believe in you, you can do it :)
I can. I can play all these at 150+ aswell.
Still learning
Yes, I'm a lefty. I'm right handed as far as drumming goes though--just the way it worked out.
Bill Bachman
Same
Same
Is it weird that I play drum kit set up left handed, but marching right handed??
Same here
Bill do you play traditional?

you lost me at flam drag 1

…but then we wouldn’t have all those marvelous takes of “Cheese on 3” !
They look like they didn't like you bill
This is the first time I've seen bill mess up.
Love the "Final Countdown" reference at the end!! 97'-98' Coats. Go Bloooooooo!!!!
The best part of this is where things weren't perfect
Notice how that's the best part of reality, nothings perfect
Nothing better than a drummer’s face when they’re thinking super hard!
its fun to play along to this video
+Kaka carrot the super sand lesbian if you can😂
Why is the h in cheese upside down lol?
lol, it's supposed to be a capital h, but part of it got erased.
Tell Mickey I said hi. He gave me lessons in high school.
Anyone else have no clue what any of this means?😂

Here i am watching this then i realize its my private lesson teacher Mr. Burmer, much respect.
OMG MICKEY BURMER HE IS MY HERO HIS SOLO AT PASIC IS THE BEST SNARE SOLO I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!11
It's great to have him as a teacher he's the greatest
@@CoolT605 where does he teach
16th note version please!
Mickey burmer the guy on the right as it appears, is my percussion teacher ...... and im in honors band and im wondering if we will learn this in high school or at the end of middle school.
there needs to be sheet music. i know the first one. but then im lost. and i cant find sheets
ON 3!

The REAL MASTERS playing with matched grip!
They look like they're not even trying!
I hear that, man. Keep doing what you do!
I'm so glad you didn't edit anything out! I died laughing!
Am I tripping or does dude on the left look like Robin Thicke 😂😂
He resembles Michael Townley....without the suits.
Dig it. Love the sticks-in at 10:13
you have inspired me to go learn these
wow not seen Allen or Mickey drumming since 2000... Allen is prob keeping quiet he is the king of the grid :) he could prob play with doubles and in reverese....
Bill you a southpaw?
Lefties unite
Very cool guys.
Great vid! Do you have any videos where you break these down at lower speeds? say like 60, 80, 100?
so on 2 you just have the flam on the 2nd partial with the diddle on the 3rd partial?
hyper drive yes
Pero como consigo la explicación más lenta para poder trabajarlo mi comentario desde colombia
Flam Drag on 1: 1:33
Flam Drag on 2: 2:25
Flam Drag on 3: 3:47
Cheese on 1: 4:20
Are they moving the rudiment, or the accent, or the flam or the diddles? I can't tell...
just the accent! yeah this is all super crazy.
does anybody know where to find sheet music for this?
great stuff
+John Ray Lol they are moving the diddle around a triplet. When they say on the 1 its the downbeat of a triplet. On 2 is the "e" of the triplet and so on. And they are doing it on the 4-2-1 grid.
Clay Powell They're actually moving the flam, which then moves the diddle as well.
+Mitchell Buehler there moving the flam but also moving the accent
+david evans well yeah the accent moved because it's a grid, but they're just moving which partial of the rudiment they start it on
how do you spell "chat arrdit tah"? + i love 94 Cadets tenors
On 3 is the hardest idk why
The guy with grey shirt didn't mess up once!(Allen Joanis)
That's Mickey Burmer..
+Jacob Alarcon Wait wait reevaluating life I think I'm dumb
He was my Drumline Director👍🏽
Im going to try this, at like 80 or 100 bpm.. maybe less
I’m too bad, I will never be able to play like this at all:(
You got it bro stay motivated I’m in 8th grade and can play this
What sticks are best for playing the quints
Depends on the sound and feel you're looking for.
pro mark vegas 👌
+Dylan Evans I like mike macs, Ike jacksons, casellas, and if you want a hybrid sound, vegas.
+Dylan Evans John Mapes quad sticks
G&D Fishing my drumline tech has the snares use mike macs and tenors use Jim casellas. The casellas sound great on tenors imo
I am going to play the tenors in marching season, do you have any recommendations?
GO ON NOW MICKEY!!!
Wait hold up I think the guy on the right is a teacher at our band
Can we get some sheet music?
It would honestly be more work to write out than it’s worth
I didn’t get that
Where can I find the sheets to this stuff
A rudiment poster
nice checks though
I dig that you still have a low tolerance for attacks, even on the pad! Seems to be a lost discipline. Props
123 Comments!
And now on 3
where did these guys march mr. bachman?
I believe Mickey went to Sullivan East High School and then went on to DCI but I forget who he was with.
@@paperscaper7946 Phantom. Believe he aged out in 2004
Allen marched 93 Cadets, 95 Crossmen. Taught 99-01 Crown. Mickey marched Phantom 03-04 (maybe others but I know he marched those years at PR)
what sticks are they using?
Random comment: I think that might be a "smart board" in the background. You probably shouldn't write on those with markers.
Where'd you get the quad pads
Tgamer 3201 they're Vic firth heavy hitters (quadropads). You can get them off the VF website
Tgamer 3201 DO NOT BUY THEM... I made a full on tenor pad that looks exactly like this and it only was like 50 dollars compared to the 150-200. Shoulda used drums instead.
Flam fives are heckin weird
Lol jeez. Breakin bill lol
9:00
Two things:
Its not a smartboard
you can write on smartboards with markers
Transcribe it by yourself. ;-))
Bruh, why does the dude on the left look like adult gibby
Man, Bill Bachman sux at grids
(Jk luv u Bill)
Troppo veloce non si capisce niente
okay good bill is human and does makes some mistakes
aghhhhhhhh crap
Did you know you can edit your videos..? Its really cringy watching you always mess up and restart just edit out... btw its always you bud ://
