- The future of Gymkhana has arrived! Introducing my brand new Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron! Brian and I take a quick trip to Audi’s Design Center in Ingolstadt, Germany to see my 1 of 1 Gymkhana Prototype. It's wild that Audi was able to condense a one year build process from the drawing boards to reality in only four weeks! The all-electric Hoonitron is essentially a fully modernized version of one of my favorite race cars, the legendary Group B Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2, so I'm extremely excited for this. All that's left now is to patiently wait for my opportunity to Hoon it.

This is an absolute dream. Automovite fans like me, have been waiting for a revival of the S1 Sport Quattro for decades. If Audi makes streets versions of these, I swear to God Im getting one!

Can I just say... the fact that our Audi design folks both showed up in exactly the same clothing design the original 80s team dressed in is amazing. I'm so glad to see the mono black short turtleneck look is still an indicator of "TRUE GERMAN DESIGNERS"
I also love how intense they are about the design work too.
Honestly, wow. This is great marketing by Audi. Enthusiasts want to see these passion projects from companies like this. It shows how much faith they have in you, Ken! Glad to see what this partnership is bringing.
Audi just created a skyrocketing market for an S1 revival with ken block dna... just need to make a street legal affordable version of this.
When Audi builds you a dedicated proto-type and incorporates your branding to theirs and names it the" Hoonitron S1" just shows you your worth as not just a driver/rally car racer but a Icon in the industry! I see why Ken isn't driving the Hoonicorn on "This vs That" now! Next on This vs That-

They better release this as a production vehicle and put it into WRC as soon as they allow full-electric EV's. This is INCREDIBLE and a pure evolution of the S1 quattro design. I'm completely floored by this. Absolutely amazing.
Imagine waking up one day and going to see the car Audi have made, just for you and clearly put everything they have into.... Living the actual dream 👍💪

Management to Design studio: We've got good news and bad news.
Bad news is, you have to come up with a car, from scratch, in 6 months.
Good news is, it's a car for Ken Block to go hooning & you get to do whatever you want.

Being a designer myself, I love how they said they had all of their designers create sketches and put them on the wall. That is a practice done in almost all of the design industries and it is really cool that they have credit to the designer who’s sketch won the initial design charrette
Yea for sure, company’s always like to take all the credit for individual work. Great to see them give him a shout out, and eventually include him in the video. Prolly made the designers day, knowing how much his work is appreciated! Good on you Audi 🤝

Audi has really gone all in with Block on this entire venture. Kudos to them, and Hoonigan for this experience.
If this doesn’t get added to Forza Horizon 5 in the next 2 years I’ll be sad. It looks insane.

As a previous student of civil engineering, hearing 4 weeks for a complete design makes me want to vaporize. That's wild.

He was genuinely humbled by this beautiful gesture that car company actually went ahead and took a challenge to make a whole new vehicle for him. That is a statement from Audi that they really care with their collaboration… I’d buy S1 e-tron in a heartbeat it looks super fun and I bet it’s going to be a beast to drive.

The S1 has been my fave Rally Car since the 80’s. For real and in games. (Rally Sport Challenge 2!) They did a great job on this. Super rad design and livery!!

WOW! This is a brilliant marketing move by Audi. What a way to capture the imagination and awe of the next generation of car enthusiasts who will only know an electric future. Kudos to Ken for being the agent of such change! Congratulations to both parties!

I think it was kind of dopey for Ford not to continue with Ken, especially when the company is making a big push in the market trying to create cool EV’s. Pretty short sighted.

This is just so cool. Appreciate what Ken has done for racing and design. It’s one thing to go and do crazy things, but it’s another to get people thinking and talking and creating.
The more you look at it the more you realize what a smart design it is. Like that floating front end. It gives the illusion of the boxy original but in reality it’s straight aero!
The 3D tail lights and floating rear spoiler too.
I'm surprised floating front ends aren't more common in just general sport cars, there's probably some safety stuff you could do with them

It's absolutely insane how they managed to make an box shape into an bodylicious shape but still maintain the heritage of the S1 Quattro...

I love hearing about how a car was designed and the thought process behind it. I dont care so much about the engineering and mechanics but hearing about the form and how it came to be is fascinating. I'm liking Audi more and more.
Would love a production version. The narrow cabin, the low roof, the potential for rear storage, the pedigree, and the fact that it’s a 2-door electric performance vehicle are all huge selling points. Adequate ground clearance and a low center of gravity too! Absolute dream car.

@@tonyb9735 Oh yeah. I drive a FR-S over a Miata for the folding rear seats. The small trunk aperture remains a big issue.
This is actually wild. The people at Audi must have just dropped everything to bring this thing into reality in such a time frame. It really shows their commitment to bringing some excitement back into the brand. Hats off, this looks absolutely sick.

I’ve always respected Audi for the race heritage however seeing how they’ve treated you and the crew has made me a long time fan of Audi for them to do the things that they’ve done so far is amazing I look forward to seeing more content with this absolutely savage modern S1 beast good job 👏

Being an Engineer myself and working with Designers from VW, I can say you will likely never understand their minds unless you are an artist yourself. They speak a different language so to say. When we sit together in meetings trying to bring their Imaginations into reality, there are often misunderstandings and long discussions arguing about a tenth of a millimeter. We simply don’t see what they see, they have a well developed feeling for proportions and we don’t. However it can sometimes be very interesting to listen to them. After all I do enjoy working with Designers.

This just created an absolutely huge market for an S1 revival... and the consumer version is going to be absolutely epic due to it's DNA being a Ken Block custom. It's going to be an instant classic, and perhaps the best revival of all time, up there with the GT40.
I will straight swap my RS6 for this - the perfect complement to my current NA supercar - 991.2 GT3RS
The S1 e-Tron is the physical representation of musical harmony with the original. Beautifully savage. Of all of the European manufacturers, Audi’s design is head and shoulders above everyone else.

That was fantastic! so many times, there is a disconnect between Ext. Design and the Graphic Design team. Here you can see they worked well together. Sasha was able to translate what elements were important to carry through to the graphics side to accentuate the design best. And it did just that. Love it!
The only thing that sucks is not hearing the crazy engine sounds but I'm so stoked to see the power from the electric power. I know this is gonna be insane.
The way that car just flows all the way around. From fenders, flares and wheels all tied into the livery. Tops. 🙌🔥🏁⚡️

Now THIS is how you modernize a classic design, so many companies are trying to do completely new things instead of modernizing their roots. It's gonna be sick seeing the final Hoon version in action, I wonder how it'll sound during a rally race with how much noise all the suspension makes, I can't imagine their suspension could be completely silent with the kinda tracks there are for rally.

This thing looks fantastic! I saw it and immediately could tell the car it was based on. Huge respect for Audi for doing something like this, they pulled it off perfectly. I REALLY want this on FH5.

You guys are making it tough on me.....I've built a Hoonicorn and a Hoonitruck for the last two pinewood derby's with my daughter, and now she wants a Hoonitron! I've got about 2 months to figure this out, but will love every minute of it. BTW - we never win the fastest car award, but we always win the award for baddest design!

I absolutely love what they've done with it and I love the story on how it's supposed to be an old school car. Still think VA is better and I have to say not that I'm hating on it the way that EV powered cars get their batteries as terrible but still a super cool car

The fact they built him this is crazy, I just will never feel the same about an electric car as I do about the roar of a traditional engine.
Yeah I think this will be where my interest in Gymkhana dies. I wish I could enjoy it in the same way but I simply can't no matter how hard I try to convince myself. It was gonna happen eventually so I guess all good things come to an end.

I bet that is part of their intention, partnering with Ken, creating a truly amazing concept, but pulling so many design details from the original S1. The original S1 is a car every petrolhead knows and loves, and now the Hoonitron is the futuristic reincarnation. A vehicle to make people understand Electric is fast, fun, but still so cool and the way of the future.
Especially if it has my same performance but the price...
You can be humble all you want but Ken you put the work and effort in. You have proven yourself dozens and dozens of times in production videos and winning races. It just makes sense to rush a car like this and create something specific to you. It creates a brand awareness like none other and can catapult any car manufacturer straight to the top. When it comes to efficient marketing there is no other choice or opportunity like it. The other car manufacturers will soon realize this.
Love the design, the S1 looks amazing.
I've always loved Audi, so to see a car as legendary car like the S1 E2 get remade into a machine *just for Ken* it's really really amazing
I love that audi was willing to rush a huge project like this. Usually companies like Audi would want plenty of time to get everything "perfect". But audi stepped up and made it happen.
My favourite parts of this game changer are the front lights and definitely the rear taillight. I also like how the front spoiler seams to deflect air under what would normally be the bonnet leading edge. Top work Audi.
Would be nice if some of these design motifs made their way into production cars. The E-Tron GT is nice... however... even though the S1 design is more dramatic... it's somehow more cohesive. Every part fits around a theme, while the E-Tron seems like a mishmash of design ideas.

I’ve had my RS5 2 years and couldn’t be happier. Even the service people at the dealership are great when I need new tires etc. Such a fun car to drive.
