Glock extended mag plates... which one do I choose

  • This is a review over several different options for extended mag plates for the Glock magazine. There are polymer and aluminum base plates available. This review gives you information on issues that I have had with some of the Mag plates. I've had no failure to feed issues with any of these brands. Only issue I've had it's getting the amount of rounds advertised in the Pearce grip brand. I have had no issues with the Taran Tactical, Strike Industries, or Hyve. Thanks for watching please leave any comments below and like And subscribe thanks.

    To get the extra round in the Pearce extensions you have to go without the inside lock plate eliminate the inside plate and when sliding on the magazine extension and tabs fall in place you can get the extra round in!

    I've never had an issue with the +1 Pearce grip extension. I put them on all of my Glock 27 magazines and have pretty happy with the results. I've tried the OEM Glock +2 extensions but I prefer to use the Pearce +1 for their feel and appearance.
    I stuck a Vortex Viper on my Gen 3 27 using an Outer Limits rear sight mounting plate and in an attempt to speed up my follow up shots and quicker dot acquisition I was turned onto the X Grips for the 19 / 23 magazines and I find that I really like them. The extra purchase makes the snap of the G27 more controllable and I don't have to use a death grip or reposition my hand every couple of shots. Having the additional 3 rounds is a big plus and not having to mess with floor plates is great (Not that it is hard to do, even without a mag disassembly tool.) I have also since taken the Viper off and went back to my Tritium night sights. For a couple reasons but the biggest being sight acquisition, I found that when the pistol was at arms length in a shooting position I would struggle to find the dot at all let alone get the dot on target. I'm sure I could train myself to use a red dot sight but I didn't feel I could trust it with my life. The Viper itself is very reliable and I've used it on both my AR-15 & AR-308 as a back up sight to a scope and never had an issue with it. But for an EDC or bedside pistol I'll stick with my 3 dot Tritium sights and TLR-6.
    I also recently purchased a Double Diamond 9mm conversion barrel for my Gen 3 G27 and with it's less snappy recoil I may buy a couple GET magazines go back to the Pearce +1 extensions. For now though it's the G19 & G23 magazines with the X-Grip G26-27C for me.
    Great video too by the way! Thanks for taking the time to explain some of the options out there. I wasn't aware of how the metal style extensions attached or that you had to do any modifications to your magazines make them fit properly.

      T. Show thanks...yeah I like the Pearce other than not being able to put all the extra rounds that it claims. Some metal ones do require the plastic lil tabs on the mags to be trimmed but not all...they still work just fine. Thanks again

    The first extension i ever used was the hyve for my m&p 9c. As soon as i loaded all rounds the follower caught on the bottom of the magazine. After the first shot, whatever was in chamber, no rounds would feed out if the magazine.

    Pearce, Taran Tactical, and OEM +2 is all I trust with my life. Arredondos are good but with new Glocks you have to file down the follower which is annoying I know some of the other extended baseplates do the same thing

    When it comes to the taran’s or the hyve’s, i think its silly to pay more for an extension than for another factory mag. The strike extensions for $18 is acceptable to me. I carry a g19 with the stock 15rd mag, then have two 17rd mags with the pearce +2 for 19 as back ups.

      To be fair the Tarans and hyves look to be machined whereas the other cheaper ones are just polymer. Purely personal preference as long as they all perform fine but that's why the costlier ones are more costly.

    Pearce + extensions are not reliable, never have been. There is not enough pressure with the OEM magazine Spring when you stretch it out by using the Pearce extension. You should get an extra power magazine spring when using those extensions or you will have issues feeding.

    • @gagunshooting803
      @gagunshooting803  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PaLEOjd good information I've never had any issues with any of my extensions the ones for the Taran Tactical the Glock 19 magazines always put a Glock 17 magazine spring in them. Same with the Glock 43 they normally have a higher weight spring that comes with the magazine extension glock 26 Springs are already heavy enough that you don't need a heavier spring.

    • @gabbyhayes1568
      @gabbyhayes1568 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in Commiefornia, we can only have 10 rounds so I'm going with the Pearce XL (+0) on my Glock 26. If I want to go illegally beyond 10 rounds, I'll just get Glock 17 or 19 magazine and go with X-Grip sleeves to extend the grip of the short handled 26. I think that's the best way to go on a Glock 26 because you're just running stock magazines and not trying to increase the OEM factory magazines' original capacity.

    Is the Glock 17 TTI plus 6 really worth the money? They run $42 plus $10 for shipping and a ETS mag is only $15 plus $5 for shipping. So $52 for 23 rounds vs $20 for 22 rounds and with the TTI you have to already have a mag put to base pad on.

      MatthewinGA Well just off the top of my head there would have to be a cut out in the front and back due to the G26 frame being notched in both front and back areas. Hyve makes some and they work great...not sure if they make a +5 but the +2 work well and are notched out to fit the frame.

      I don’t add any additional mag wells I just run them in the standard frame mag well.

    • @gagunshooting803
      @gagunshooting803  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drew Thmas They fit specific ones...when you order them they should specify which ones they fit and if a different spring is recommended.

    And the g23 holds 13 so 13+5=18 not 22 bud

    • @gagunshooting803
      @gagunshooting803  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JMD Pranks Good catch but I think we are both wrong I was referring to the Glock 22 not the Glock 23 so it would be 15+5 which equals 20...shit happens
