This is directed by the guy who did Thunderbolt and G-Witch. Both of those had a POV shot of the Gundam rushing the enemy.

We've always seen how they view the Gundam though. It basically gave them ptsd and became a symbol of dread.

For those who are curious about what the story will be.
The story will take place in the year 0080, or more precisely after the Zeon Hunt incident. EFGF (earth federation) massacred the remnants of Zeon still on Earth and this series will take the POV of the Zeon troops (same as MS Igloo season 1)
And the "antagonist" in this series is the Federation or the Gundam as the antagonist, and the Gundam is quite scary in design

However, in the west, I'm not entirely sure if it has the same amount of pull and traction as it does back home.
Iron blooded orphans was quite popular in the west but in general I'm not sure if gundam is as big as it used to be over here, I just know it's never ending like the fate franchise
I wouldn't say it's failed cause Iron blooded orphans was quite popular but the west latches on to the most popular shounen series in today's pop culture era so if it isn't all over social media then it doesn't become a huge sensation.
Gundam is like the old anime of the 90's era like evangelion where they've solidified themselves in the anime industry as a whole but not everyone is rushing to see it because its not the latest hit on the market

I know Zeon always referred to the OG RX-78-2 as "The White Devil" in the series, but man, seeing it in shadows, surrounded by fire, red eyes and its horns, it becomes more and more clear to me how it must have felt to see this thing run through your outpost and wipeout whole squads, really curious to see how this turns out!
good point, i should have said that in the UC in general they refer to gundams by that name, and yeah very ground gundam, the head shape in particular reminds me a bit of the EZ-8 from 8th MS

@@tylermorrison9775 I'm positive it is the RX-79(G) Ground type. Shoulder pads are inherent to that model unit at that time period. Also, at 1:05 you can see the RX-79's characteristics pikes in its shield.

So based on the date given, this will be around the time of Operation Odessa, when Earth Federation began their counter offensive on Earth and the tide of war began to turn for them. This is the bloodiest conflict on Earth at this time of the war, so it's definitely gonna be interesting to see, Especially from Zeon's POV.

A Ez-8 Head unit with thin v shape antenna , a GP01 Chest & cockpit , plus mix GTO middle type shoulder armor and early type shoulder Gatling Gun, no wonder people said what the hell is that.
I really love that part at 0:43 showing airborne Zaku with the soft music. There's something special about that part.

I always said it would be HILARIOUS if they pumped a ton of funding and experimental upgrades into a mobile suit... and then made it look just like a Zaku. The gundam on the other side is like "haha, zakus. easy" then it gets a over-dramatically aimed prototype railgun round through its cockpit and all their friends make the surprised pikachu face while it fades back into the horde of identical looking suits.
I visited Gundam factory today in Yokohama, Japan. it was an awesome sight and I thought why isn't this still being made.
I'm enjoying these Gundam anime from the antagonist's perspective. The human struggle does not care which side you are on, and sometimes the White Knight is just a super-power with other goals stepping in.

It’s awesome to see the world of Gundam still pumping out content, especially revolving around the One Year War. I remember buying the Bandai action figures in Target, Kmart, etc. in the early 2000s. I still have an unopened Gundam Alex and Kämpfer sitting in my office.

I love that the interpretation of the Gundam from the Zeon pilots' view is that of a demon in the dark. It fits the moniker of White Devil
It reminds me of something I saw a while back that redid John Wick from the perspective of the Russian mobsters. It wasn't even done like a horror movie, it was a full-on disaster movie.

What's so awesome with the One Year War is there can be countless side stories which means numerous Gundam prototypes as the Feds continue to experiment with their Project V. I especially like that this depicts a story from the Zeon's side.
Definitely feels like Gundam is making a great comeback. I'm glad I have picked up several of the Metal Build sets in the past few months. These things are super fun and addictive to collect!!! Can't wait to watch.

They say it is because ultimately. the Gundam cartoons were made to sell toys, and the toy they wanted to sell was the RX-78-2. The Zaku was at first not meant to be made into a toy for sale, so the artist had more creative freedom to create it and make it look so awesome.

Very much reminds me of zeonic front for the ps2. The gundam was often referred to as the "White Devil" and in the game it definitely felt like that, to a lesser extent mudrock but I managed to take that one down a couple of times.
As long as Netflix keeps supporting the creation and perpetuation of amazing animation content I’ll keep my membership.
Their start in the scene was shaky to say the least, but lately it's been bangers only.

@@jansobieski3127theres more gundam units besides the rx-78. at this point in history you already have multiple different gundam units like the RX-79 Ground Gundam from 08th MS Team, RX-78-FA Full Armor Gundam from Thunderbolt, RX-78-NT1 Gundam Alex from War in The Pocket, and so on.
The EFSF was quick to build more units after the successes of the original RX-78-2 on the battlefield so they deployed a bunch more Gundam type mobile suits well into the OYW and after it. Based on the design and it having red eyes instead of the standard green color, the Gundam in Requiem for Vengeance is probably a similar unit to the RX-79 Ez-8 Gundam.
@@jansobieski3127 that's the Rx 78-1 proto Gundam unit. The Rx 78-0 is also probably here but the Rx 78-2 is in it.
This put me into literal tears of joy. I grew up with the original Gundam series, grew up with Gundam Wing, Gundam Zero, etc. And to see it's making a comeback is a dream come true. I hope anyone reading this actually can put a little bit of their time to actually see this show. You guys won't regret it. Gundam is an AMAZING universe filled with awesome battles/stories that you guys really will enjoy.

Literally started to watch first Origin and now the original MSG series because of this trailer. Show is pretty good.

I have absolulely no idea what Gundam is, but it looks pretty epic. Don't normally watch mecha or whatever it is. I'm nearly 60, but I''ll give this a go.
Gundam is a looooong running sci-fi franchise that’s about how awful war is and how badly it messes you up. The main thrust of the world building is the use of Mobile Suits, humanoid war machines that are used by both sides of the conflict. The mono-eyes machines in this are Zaku II types; the most common grunt for Zeon (a vaguely fascistic faction made up of rebelling space colonies; they’re usually the antagonists but both sides tend to be pretty terrible in their own ways). “Gundam” is a term for what are (at least in this timeline because there’s a bunch now) Earth Federation prototypes that tend to be grossly overpowered and get used in lots of war crimes. The red-eyed machine that looks like a mechanical demon at 1:10 is an early Gundam. The franchise has a ton of lore and dozens of movies, tv shows, miniseries, books, comics, games, all sorts of media.

First, it brings me joy to see a TV series about what Zeon went through in the One-year War. Similar to MS Igloo but, better this TV series has me excited for Gundam all over again. I can't wait to see where this show goes from here.

Seeing the Gundam with red eyes gave me spine chills considering I love the Federation's point of view.

well it kinda did, it wouldn't be called a one year war if it went on for more years, then it would just be called a forever war, its more like there were factions within zeon that refuse to surrender despite their apparent surrender of most of zeon, from now whichever zeon forces that continue to fight are insurrectionists and are to be hunted down by the federation and even by those from the former zeon republic which is why the Titans federation was made which is a specific anti zeon remnant forces which became so extremist with their methods that they become enemies of the Earth Federation after they found out that Titans are just a bunch of radicalized earthnoids bent on wiping out spacenoids, it also doesn't help that they teamed up with Hamans neo zeon completely contradicting their organizations founding thus the event was called the gryps war cause you got more sides than just zeon, you got neo zeon, titans, Paptimus and his Sirocco faction for the federation, and the AEUG which at the time still has yet to gain support from the main Earth Federation and then you got Anaheim Electronics running all sides from the background developing mobile suits for all and raking in stacks of cash through the war economy.
@@XIguy well they are at that point zeon remnants because the one year war and their war has definitely ended and we can literally see in the teaser that they seem to be just on the run trying to survive they are literally evacuating from one place to another in the teaser with the caravan, eventually they'll have to align with the various zeon factions or remain in hiding much like majority of the zeon navy even during the UC 90's, doing mercenary work like the Garanciers or just having their own motivations like the Chimera team, bottom line is the one year war has ended, the war moving forward will be a war free for all on who controls the universe it won't be a battle for conquering Earth in fact most zeon factions only want to retake Earth simple because it is their homeland they only see it as a sentimental object they couldn't care less if the federation still exist in fact they would rather be the higher power that supports the Earth and not the other way around where spacenoids maintain the prosperity of Earth, in other words its a new war based around a new set of motives.

This is still taking place in the original series, post Garma's Fate. If the timeline matches up, that should be the RX-78-2 piloted by Ray himself. Yup, that Zeon unit is boned.
honestly, I'm surprised there's still Zeon remnants from the one year war in later stories, I've seen way too many episodes and manga where the remanants get wiped out or nearly wiped out.

The Gundam outclassed the Zakus in everything. Armor, laser gun, beam saber, looks, you name it. I was so amazed in my young age the first time I saw the very first series with Amuro and the White Base. One of my favorites scenes in the series is when the Gundam survives reentry to earth’s atmosphere using some special blanket he was carrying in a secret side pocket. I love this franchise so much and this Netflix trailer looks good can’t wait to check it out.

I just started watching the 1979 Gundam series this year and it is still so awesome even by today's standard. Love the animation and love the overall storyline. For this new one from Netflix, I am not so sure, it feels a bit not right for me. Maybe I still prefer the old animation style compared to this beautifully rendered 3D animation... and also watching it in English feels kinda weird for me too knowing that Gundam is a Japanese anime in the first place...
The Gundam outclasses a Zaku in most ways, but not every way. Because the Zaku didn't carry any beam weapons, it could operate for longer periods than any other mobile suit, even though its generator didn't provide that much power. Besides, it's not that Zeon couldn't design a suit as good as the Gundam, there was simply no need to when the Federation didn't have any mobile suits of their own. Once they did get around to building a high performance suit, the Gelgoog was pretty good. Plus, let's not forget that Zeon-allied designers created the Zeta, Double Zeta, and the freaking Qubeley.

@@christophersmith3820 most gundam series set in UC 0079 are limited ova/ONA materal. there is only so much new Gunpla you can mine out that one era before it's all redecos or announcing a existing ms is getting a new mold with modern tooling. The Twilight Axis ONA had the one Gundam kit in the line be bad because they basically just took the old NT-1 kit and included the new molded bits on separate trees.

I love that we're seeing what appears to be a RX-79 Ground Gundam variant based on the "Ez8" from 0th MS Team. Hope to see Ground GMs, Mass Produced Guntanks, and hopefully Flight Type Goufs.

I'm sorry but a lot of these shots looked like bad screen grabs from a ten year old "Mechwarrior" game. I'm trying to remain open minded because the last Gundam series was so good but so far this trailer does not inspire hope for me.

Considering how well the Gundam looked in Ready Player One, I feel that a live action Gundam film/series would be ok if the VFX/CGI is good enough (provided the VFX artists and production designers are paid enough) and actually has a solid script so it doesn’t turn out like G Saviour (an actual Gundam live action film that did horribly).
Funny how they're just openly ripping off the Red Shoulders for the Zeon squad, knowing no one knows what Armored Trooper VOTOMS is despite it being around for nearly as long as Gundam.

@@Peasham That's like saying Attack of the Clones was a love story. Yes, a romance was central to the plot, but it was hardly the main focus. I'd say the main message of 08th MS Team (and most Gundam series) was to not let yourself be blinded by hatred.

No. AOT's love story comes in later on and is something Isayama made up as he went along, the PREMISE of 08th is a love story, that is how it starts and that is its exclusive framing. In the one slice of life episode where the team does nothing and chills in a desert (it being slice of life as it doesn't further the plot in any way shape or form, nor does it set things up that'd further the plot, "slice of life" isn't an insult here or in general) the focus is exclusively on them discussing their love lives, that just is the central thesis of the story. I also have absolutely no idea what hatred has to do with 08th, it isn't central to any of the characters or ever even brought up in any way, what?
Gundam is about peace, love, hope and mutual understanding, and that's not even getting into its specific sociopolitical messages. You can't have all of that without love.

I’m a little unsure about the visuals, as they are borderline realistic, but then there’s some more cartoony design choices with the characters and scenery… But im very excited regardless, and can’t wait to see this!
More 3D/CG Gundam shows please, love the more gritty realism!

The Gundam in Zeon's POV is a machine they haven't understood yet. But all they know is it can wipe them out easily and kill them all.
All of the Gundam stuff looks good. The people... less so. Probably just watch clips of the combat on TH-cam for this one.
