Building Your Dreams in Thailand is Hard Work

  • Today we begin building a couple construction projects here at our new Thailand Home. Bamboo Hut Version 2.0 is under way, as well as a new parking shelter. But as the work begins, I end up chasing supplies and materials all over the creation.

Did you have to ask the landlord if it was ok to pour a slab?
A tonne of moderately damp gravel typically fills about 0.595 m3 (cubic meters).
Your 1.5 ton would therefore be 0.9 m3
so it looks about right to me.

I am by no means an expert, but i feel like that was a fair amount shot in the gravel you got. We had a ton of those roses quartz type stuff (mom had picked out) delivered to top off the front flower beds and it was a decently larger pile than that, but who knows!

Please always ask around before you pay the first price offered. 1.5 tons is 1.5 cubic meters. At 1000 baht (no big deal for a rich farang), a load comes to 666 baht a ton. It appears you are paying a bit more in your area than in other places. I get eight tons of 1-inch gravel for 2800 baht. I also told the delivery guy I wanted a weight ticket (before and after loading) before I paid.

You need to purchase Lan a welding shield you can’t weld and close your eyes. If you get a welding shield, you get a better quality weld. I guess you can weld with your eyes closed, but it doesn’t work that great. You can’t close your eyes and protect them and weld at the same time your eyes will feel dry and burning after welding a bunch. You don’t want her to go blind do you? She’s a awesome lady!!!
    She’s a keeper!!!
That’s nice that she’s willing to do that stuff and save you some money!!! it’s nice that her son came by to help very cool!!!
You guys are making it happen I’m impressed!!!
I turned in my retirement paperwork today. My official retirement day is a year sooner than I planned, which is very cool! Is my last day.
I’m a construction heavy equipment operator once I retire I can go down into the southern United States and do a little double dipping earning money while I’m receiving my pension this winter I plan on doing about 3 to 4 months worth of work down south to get out of Midwestern snow. I should end up being in Thailand in the Philippines to check both places out probably during the rainy season of 2025 so next year about the same time.
Once again, another very interesting video good job!!!

Also, keep in mind that a cubic yard is a unit of volume. It’s a cube that measures 3 feet on each side. So, imagine a box that’s about 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 3 feet high filled with gravel, and that should give you a rough idea of what 3000 lbs of gravel might look like.

Do you have to use certified local builders? No you tubers seem to just self build. Or is it just so cheap it's deemed not worth your time.

A good reason why the gravel supplier has concrete under the stone.........when you put gravel or sand on bare soil especially in grass area, that contaminates the gravel/sand....should put down double layer of black plastic first.
"Metric" tonne is very close to the same weight as imperial ton.
Load looks more like just 1 cubic metre to me which is how it is normally measured.
Concrete mix is normally 1 part cement powder, 2 parts sand and 4 parts gravel.
I think you'll need more sand...............🤣🤣Those post holes are MASSIVE.....

It looks like hiring a contractor in Thailand is the same as hiring a contractor in the US! 😂

IF WHAT YOUR CUTTING IS NOT CLAMPED DOWN..... IT CAN KICK BACK, INTO THE BLADE SIDE... THINK OF A RACE CAR TIRE...GOING 200 PHM,... AND IT LOSSES, IT BALANCE WEIGHT AND STARTS TO BOUNCH....THE TIRE WILL BLOW UP, AND FALL APART.....THATS WHAT THE BLADE WILL DO..

Great video and update and I'm liking your new home out of Pattaya. The smaller town looks less stressful and having a home with space gives Lan some freedom to show her take charge and building skills. I also enjoy seeing the rural roads with no traffic for a peaceful motorbike ride. You're living the life Lucas, keep smiling and enjoying this beautiful paradise...

A metric ton is 1,000kg, or 2,200lbs so 1.5mt should weigh 3300lbs. Sometimes in Thailand they will sell in cubic meters and consider that a metric ton

1 cubic meter is 2.4 tonne ... definitely flatten the springs Utes are only rated for 3/4 of a tonne

    • @oldthaiexpat
      @oldthaiexpat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@geofferyrobertson6608 it can be more or less than that depending on how wet the stone and sand is. That is usually why it is sold by volume and not weight

@@oldthaiexpat sorry but no it can't , take it as Dry and it is only rated for 3/4 of a tonne , wet would be 1/2 a tonne .. check out carry loads on the internet for a ute

1,5 metric ton should be about 1 cubic meter, which doesn't look so off

Interesting Video, This episode was almost like watching This Old House.🏡 I’d put a couple comfortable outdoor chairs in the middle of the Carport, have another spot to chill/ relax in the shade or when it’s raining out of the elements.
