FINALLY, after years of waiting for it, FINALLY ON TH-cam the accurate version of Unchained Melody as played by Elvis in concert. This video will be very successful! Thank you from Italy!
INTERESTING NOTE: We are NOT hearing Elvis playing the piano in the famous clip from the 77 concert. Yes, Elvis did sit down at the piano and played & sang Unchained Melody for the live audience. However, Felton Jarvis felt that Elvis' paino playing was not polished enough for the TV special and album. That is where Bobby Ogdin stepped in. They went to RCA studio A here in Nashville and recorded Ogdin playing to Elvis' voice. They had to get the timing right as Elvis slows down and speeds up all through the song but they did it. So what we all hear on the album and even in the recent movie "Elvis" that uses this clip in the finale is the overdubbed piano playing of Bobby Ogdin.
Absolutely amazing to FINALLY find someone that successfully shows how to play this... the way Elvis did!!! Great job! I, as well as others, would LOVE IT if you would post the sheet music. Would you be willing to do this??? Thanks so much !!!
But this is not have Elvis played it. Rather, this is how Bobby Ogdin played it! What you hear in this video TV special and on the album is a piano overdub played by Bobby Ogdin. Yes, Elvis did play and sing this song in concert but Elvis' producer, Felton Jarvis, did not think Elvis' piano playing was polished enough for the TV special and album. They took Bobby Ogdin into RCA studio A here in Nashville and Bobby played to go with Elvis' voice and tempo. So the piano you hear in this clip is NOT Elvis, it's Bobby Ogdin and his style.
Oh, my love, my darling I've hungered for your touch A long, lonely time Time goes by so slowly And time can do so much Are you still mine? I need your love I need your love God speed your love to me Lonely rivers flow To the sea, to the sea To the open arms of the sea Lonely rivers cry Wait for me, wait for me I'll be coming home, wait for me Oh, my love, my darling I've hungered for your touch A long, lonely time I need your love I need your love God speed your love to me
The chords for this song are C Major, A Minor, F Major, G Major, G7, and Eb Major. I play by ear and pieced this in when counting the beats. Hope this helps!
Every time I hear this song come on, I get quiet and I have to stop and listen. It's my favorite of his. No other version of this song gives me so much emotion. This song was sung and played with the entirety of his soul.
Most definitely. Such passion he shows when performing in every show, but especially that one in 1977. Elvis was one of a kind, and he’ll forever be remembered for his impact in the music world.
I can't believe it. Waiting years for this moment, for someone who upload this version. Thanks a lot. By the way do you have the music sheet of this version?
Thank you! I don’t have the sheet music unfortunately. I can’t read sheet music so this is all just transcribed by ear. I can recommend some practice steps that I took to learn by ear if you’re interested?
This is the only good version I really want to learn this song but to hard for me haha can you maybe make a tutorial or a slower version? But this is still awesome thank you!
There wouldn’t be a sheet music version unfortunately. This was played by ear and memory. My advice is once you find the melody, add a rocking back and forth motion to your hands after the final beat of each note to give it that build up momentum feel. Hope this helps!
I play all my songs by ear. Occasionally I will listen to an instrumental track so I can better find the chords if I can’t hear them in the original recording.
Sorry if this wasn’t what you were looking for! The chords for this particular song are: C Major, A Minor, F Major, G Major, G7, and Eb Major. Tutorials are easiest in my opinion if the notes are shown to the viewer. Let me know if you need any more help!

You can see elvis lift his hands off they keys, but you hear a glissando, so I realised he wasn’t playing it

You should hear my best friend John play it
You nailed it man! Big love!
Can a beginner pianist learn this song?
Ofc
Definitely the melody! To match it exactly as Elvis would take practice. But I believe within time, a beginner could learn the song as a whole.
I'm a notation player so by any chance do you have music sheet of this beautiful melody?
Where can I find the music sheet for this version? Everything else is too easy
