Absolutely! And to think that Elvis thought and said that No One would remember him. If he only knew how untrue that is. 🙏🏻 Ps.. I just seen the Elvis movie and it was fantastic! I think Elvis would be proud🤗
@@CLSGL I totally agree 🤗I’m going again on Sunday with my sister and I can’t wait for her to see it and I can’t wait to watch her reactions on her face while she sees it 😻🤗
I just finished watching the movie at the cinema. Both Austin Butler and Tom Hanks are simply phenomenal. I hope that both can win all the possible awards for their leading and suppirting role.
I cried as well. Two different emotions and meaning in one song. Apart from his effort to put ppl together during the crisis thru the song, he also tells how hard and why is he dream kept taken down. He tried to let us know what he actually felt actually.
This is probably one of Elvis' most powerful moments, especially in context. You can feel the emotion in his voice, his movements, and can see it in his face. Incredible performance, the goosebumps are real.
I've just come home from the film. Iove this even more knowing it was a rebelling moment. And the emotion for the night comes through perfectly. Such a fabulous tribute to both men.
Went into the Elvis movie knowing he was the guy who sang Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock. This scene absolutely floored me. I had no idea Elvis’s later music was so emotional, so beautiful. 50 years later, Elvis is still making new fans, and I’m happy to say I’m one of them.
Same here mad into guns n' roses Nirvana led Zeppelin seen the movie and it dawned on me why my father worshipped Elvis. I to was flooded with this song with how he stood buy his African American friends and how hung out with b.b. King. Was I tears listening to this song straight away I was thinking about my father with his side burns that teddy boy look slicked back hair. That's power of his voice. I can't believe I'm only getting into his music so late in life. Straight up that's the power of the King💯❤️ I 🙏

Elvis was my dad’s absolute favourite. All his life he never changed. Elvis died on my dad’s birthday. Every year on my dad’s birthday, he would start his day by playing Elvis, and wouldn’t turn it off until the next morning. My dad recently died in July, and I’m going to continue the tradition of listening to Elvis on my dad’s birthday as long as I live.

it is 2022 and our this younger generation is falling in love with Elvis all over again. I absolutely love it. Makes me so happy. Elvis would be so happy!
I’m a 14 year old girl and I have never listened to Elvis in my life. I saw the movie 2 weeks ago and I have never felt so in love with a man and his music. The amount of emotion I feel listening to him is real. I am now a true fan of Elvis and I will be for the res of my life.
You’re right. Elvis was one of the greats. It’s a shame he didn’t spend more time after he got out of the army producing new music. It kept him from having the staying power that the Beatles have had.
@@benmoore42 Yes. Elvis devoted himself to film acting for quite some time in the 60s. “Although there were good songs and hit songs during the Elvis movie era.” But Elvis evolved in the 60's and 70's and accomplished many great things. In the 70's Elvis was crazy about concerts, playing big shows like Madison Square Garden and Aloha From Hawaii. He could do almost anything. Jailhouse Rock, if i can dream, its now or never, blue moon, surrender, one of his best songs, but there were many other great songs as well. I think Elvis' take on funk is perfection. "I Got A Feeling In My Body 1974". Elvis focused on country in the 70's. Elvis was a perfectionist in song interpretation and recording. His voice was deep and one of the most soulful singers. passion, heart and soul. Deep Purple's lead singer and frontman, Ian Gillan, a damn good singer in his own right, said: " he was the greatest singer that ever lived." Henry Pleasants, Classical Music Critic in his book “The Great American Popular Singers” (1974). Elvis had a magnificent voice and towards the end of his life, he enjoyed singing in a somewhat operatic style, displaying his amazing range. Opera star Kiri Te Kanawa told Michael Parkinson that the young Elvis had the greatest voice she had ever heard. The tenor Placido Domingo similarly enthused in an interview in Spanish magazine Hola in 1994: “His was the one voice I wish to have had.” Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel told The New York Times in 2007 that Presley was: “very classically orientated with his voice and diction and very sincere and wanting to get everything perfect.” The australian Elvis Network there is an article called "the 50 voices of Elvis" and a lot of voice specialists (great) oppinion of Elvis. Pawarotti is on record saying " I can't sing as Elvis, but he can sing as I !" Elvis was not an opera singer and whether or not he could have been does not matter. What made him so different was not his so-called opera singer range but the utter freedom of his singing. "People will often say that opera singers sound too stiff and operatic when singing contemporary music. This is because the vowels in an operatic style tend to be more open, whereas in a rock style singers tend to thin out the vowel. There is nothing wrong, and everything right, in opening the vowel in the higher register so that the higher notes can be sustained. Elvis Presley was very open in his singing style even though he was 'the' rock and roller." - Brian Gilbertson, world-famous voice teacher Record producer John Owen Williams says of Elvis: "People talk of his range and power, his ability and ease in hitting the high notes. But the real difference between Elvis and other singers was that he could sing majestically in any style, be it rock, country, or R&B - because he had soul. He sang from the heart. And that is what made him the greatest singer in the history of popular music.” Only singer in music Hall of Fame Rock, Country, Blues, Gospel. "I taught him some lyrics in Spanish and he learned them. I wrote it for him the way it was sung (phonetically). He was very talented. It was very difficult Mexican music." --Manny Lopez, RCA vibraphone recording artist known as the King of the Cha Cha Cha, explaining how, under his tutelage, Elvis sang the Mexican standard, Guadalajara, (1963) in Spanish, like an authentic Mariachi, as published in Las Vegas' The Desert Sun, on March 16, 2007. Elvis' lowest effective note was a low-G, as heard on 'He'll Have To Go' (1976); on 'King Creole' (1958), he growls some low-F's; going up, his highest full-voiced notes were the high-B's in 'Surrender' (1961) and 'Merry Christmas Baby' (1971), the high-G at the end of 'My Way' (1976 live version), and the high-A of 'An American Trilogy' (1972); using falsetto, Elvis could reach at least a high-E, e.g, as in 'Unchained Melody' (1977), so, it was very nearly a three-octave range, although more practically two-and-a-half'. (George Barbel). In his voice, he possessed the most beautiful musical instrument, and the genius to play that instrument perfectly; he could jump from octave to countless other octaves with such agility without voice crack, simultaneously sing a duet with his own overtones, rein in an always-lurking atomic explosion to so effortlessly fondle, and release, the most delicate chimes of pathos. Yet, those who haven't been open (or had the chance) to explore some of Elvis' most brilliant work - the almost esoteric ballads and semi-classical recordings - have cheated themselves out of one of the most beautiful gifts to fall out of the sky in a lifetime. Fortunately, this magnificent musical instrument reached its perfection around 1960, the same time the recording industry finally achieved sound reproduction rivaling that of today. So, it's never too late to explore and cherish a well-preserved miracle, as a simple trip to the record store will truly produce unparalleled chills and thrills, for the rest of your life; and then you'll finally understand the best reason this guy never goes away. (Mike Handley,'The Jim Bohannon Show', Westwood One Network) On his live versions of songs like 'How Great Thou Art' (1975), 'Unchained Melody' (1976) and 'Hurt' (1977), you will be able to hear how high he can go; 'What Now My Love' really his true vocal power. (Cory Cooper on Elvis Presley's vocal range, as published February 4, 2005). "Even in his laziest moments, Presley was a master of intonation and phrasing, delivering his rich baritone with a disarming naturalness. And when he caught a spark from his great T.C.B. Band, Presley could still out-sing anyone in American pop. You can hear it here on inspired versions of Muddy Waters' Got My Mojo Working, Wayne Carson's Always on My Mind, Chuck Berry's Promised Land, McCartney's Lady Madonna, Percy Mayfield's Stranger in My Own Hometown, Dennis Linde's Burning Love and Joe South's Walk a Mile in My Shoes..." "Presley's voice was remarkable in the sense that, through it, he touched people in a way only great artists can do. (In fact), the people he touched are as diverse as humanity itself and, because of that his popularity has transcended race, class, national boundaries, and culture. There is no simple answer about why that is so, all I can say is he had that magic. - John Bakke, professor emeritus of the University of Memphis, in an interview with the US State Department, transcripted by UNUSINFO on July 18, 2006 on the legacy of Elvis Presley.
Elvis is one of the greatest legends. 1 out of every 3 records sold in the U.S. in 1977 was an Elvis record. If soundscan had been around, Elvis would have had no less than 40 albums on the hot 100 at the same time. The Beatles haven’t even come close to that. At no other time in music history in western culture did the sale of guitars ever explode or increase as they did when Elvis burst onto the scene. On Elvis’ records was where his guitarist, Scotty Moore, invented rock and roll guitar. Anyone who can read sheet music knows that Moore initiated the technique known as “power chording”. It’s an alternate chord figure that goes with everything. It’s mostly used by heavy metal and Punk Rock guitar. He didn’t write a song but his sheer raw performing talent, his phrasing of a song and ability to make a song absolutely his were all so extraordinary that someone like Chuck Berry - who was a legend and who wrote all of his own songs - still said that Elvis was ‘the best and the best there ever will be He became one of the most significant pop culture icons of the 20th century before passing away at the young age of 42. To this day, he remains the best-selling solo artist of all time, racking up an estimated 600 million to one billion in album sales. It’s not that he was the first to be associated with the term Rock and Roll; in fact, Rocking and Rolling had been around since the early 1900s as a descriptive of the spiritual excitement of African-American church services.“I don’t think there is a musician today that hasn’t been affected by Elvis’ music. His definitive years - 1954-57 - can only be described as rock’s cornerstone. He was the original cool.” (Brian Setzer) “Heartbreak Hotel” had a colossal impact - both on Elvis’ career and on rock & roll history. It was Elvis’ first nationwide hit after a string of regional successes, and it changed the lives of countless future stars - John Lennon, George Harrison, Keith Richards and Robert Plant have all proclaimed its transformative effect. Elton John, recalling the day he first heard the song, said, “That weekend, my mum came home with ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and that changed my life. … Elvis Presley changed everyone’s life. I mean, there would be no Beatles, there would be no Hendrix. There would be no Dylan.” Paul McCartney once declared it nothing less than the most important artistic creation of the modern era. “On July 5th, 1954, at Sun Studios in Memphis, Elvis Presley, guitarist Scotty Moore, and bassist Bill Black were horsing around with ‘That’s All Right,’ a tune by bluesman Arthur Crudup, when producer Sam Phillips stopped them and asked, ‘What are you doing?’” Rolling Stone said. “‘We don’t know,’ they said. Phillips told them to ‘back up and do it again.’ Bridging black and white, country and blues, Presley’s sound was playful and revolutionary, charged by a spontaneity and freedom that changed the world. He released four more singles on Sun - including definitive reinventions of Wynonie Harris’ ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight’ and Junior Parker’s ‘Mystery Train’ - before moving on to immortality at RCA. They’re all here on a collection that serves as well as anything out there as a definitive chronicle of the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.” It’s notable Rolling Stone sees Elvis as having created rock ‘n’ roll. Brian Setzer, “Everything in popular music is a tribute to Elvis” Carl Perkins, “Everyone has their own ideas about what rock is. But make no mistake, The first time anyone ever did what was called rock-a-billy was when Elvis, Scotty and the boys started recording” Roy Orbison, “Elvis was the firstest with the mostest”… Dick Clark, “I know he didn’t write the songs but there isn’t anybody or act in rock and roll history that was more influential than Elvis” ca.1990 “There are some songs only Elvis could sing” Dick Clark, ca. 1987 Lennon, “Before Elvis there was nothing” Bob Dylan, “I don’t look at myself as a ‘poetic genius’ ‘voice of a generation” or anything like that, I just want to be Elvis”….as told to Ed Bradley of 60 minutes around 1997 Bobby Womack black performer and producer, “Elvis sent a shockwave through the black community like nobody I have ever heard before. Now that’s power” B.B.King, “Elvis had an influence on all of us. They didn’t make a mistake when they called him the king” Glen Campbel, “Elvis is the best singer that ever lived” Writer of Mary in The Morning, “I think Elvis was the best singer ever” Trisha Yearwood, “You’ve got to be pretty bold to try and take on an Elvis vocal performance” “Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach. He broke the ice for all of us.”-Al Green “Elvis is the best ever, the most original.” -Jim Morrison “Elvis Presley possessed genuine rhythm guitar chops” - Johnny Cash “Nobody can sing blues better than Elvis”. -Jackie Wilson, "Nobody can sing the gospel better than Elvis" -Mahalia Jackson “I remember Elvis as a young man hanging around the Sun Studios. Even then, I knew this kid had a tremendous talent. He was a dynamic young boy. I was a tremendous fan, and had Elvis lived, there would have been no end to his inventiveness.”-B.B. King “He was a unique artist, an original in an area of imitators.”-Mick Jagger “He was just amazing and spectacular. He really opened the door to my whole love of music. Because of him, and because of the choice of his material, I found Smiley Lewis [and] all those great singers.”-Robert Plant “Elvis was the king. No doubt about it. People like myself, Mick Jagger and all the others only followed in his footsteps.”-Rod Stewart “You have no idea how great he is, really you don’t. You have no comprehension-it’s absolutely impossible. I can’t tell you why he’s so great, but he is. He’s sensational.”-Phil Spector “There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.”-Bruce Springsteen “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. There’ll never be another like that soul brother.”-James Brown “When I first heard Elvis’ voice, I just knew that I wasn’t going to work for anybody; and nobody was going to be my boss…Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.”-Bob Dylan “Elvis Presley is like the ‘Big Bang’ of rock ’n’ roll. It all came from there and what you had in Elvis Presley is a very interesting moment because, really, to be pretentious about it for a minute, you had two cultures colliding there. You had a kind of white, European culture and an African culture coming together-the rhythm, OK,, of black music and the melody chord progressions of white music, just all came together in that kind of spastic dance of his. That was the moment.” -Bono “Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the 20th century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes, it’s a whole new social revolution - the ’60s comes from it.”-Leonard Bernstein
My all time most favorite song from 'THE KING ELVIS PRESLEY '❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢 LOVE FOR ELVIS And LISA MARIE PRESLEY FOREVER. R.I.P ❤❤ (was not even born yet when the 68 special came on t.v)
His backup singers were crying after this performance. When asked why, one of them said "I've never seen him sing like that before. He means every word." And he did.
I agree except he absolutely cared about hitting the notes, because he nailed every one. Emotional power harnessed to phenomenal technique. The 1972 Hampton Roads, VA concert footage of "How Great Thou Art" rivals this performance. An old gospel tune given a rousing arrangement by Elvis.
@@flemit35 Was this with the Sweet Inspirations, Cissy Houston's group? You'd expect some great harmony from a group that featured Dionne Warwick's sister.
An American Trilogy from the Aloha Special, My Way from 1977 (Not Aloha 73) Bridge Over Troubled Water from That's The Way It Is and Elvis On Your are up there
He wanted a song written to honor JFK & MLK Deaths. He was told to sing a Christmas song the last song on this 68' comeback special, he refused. Most have never heard it because to honor their memory he never sang it live again. My favorite all time song.
I agree!!! I wish I could ask Elvis WHY.. why did you never sing that song again?? I'm SURE Elvis had a reason. I'll ask him when I am in heaven with him.
I’m 71 and saw him on stage 3x’s the last was his last New Years he was alive…I love seeing the younger generation finally realizing how incredible this man was.
I miss when America was United and not divided by the political parties. Let’s just learn to accept we all have our own preferences and get along with each other instead of being savages with an “us vs them” mentality #MakeAmericaUnitedAgain 🇺🇸✌️
@@saqib7965 "If I can dream" was written by Walter Earl Brown (and the composer Billy Goldenberg) for Elvis Presley. It was recorded by Elvis in June 1968 and was released to the public on the '68 Comeback Special. Get your facts straight.
They spend millions of dollars on extravagant Super Bowl halftime shows but can't come close to the excitement produced by Elvis with a microphone, a dark background and a great backup band.
That's because talent of his level simply does not exist in the music industry anymore. Elvis was, unfortunately, a once in a lifetime talent. I was born a decade after Elvis died but I am truly hoping that I live long enough to see someone like him reappear in the music industry before I shuffle off of this mortal coil. I'm not getting my hopes up based on where music and society in general is at right now.
keep in mind. today, the only people you'll find who hate elvis. who lie about elvis, are left-wing democrat voters. if you educate yourself, you'll quickly find that out.
Him and Prince are my top two performers of all time. Elvis help bring Rock n' Roll to the mainstream and Prince was probably the most talented performer to ever live (between his vocal range, dancing, all the instruments he could play at a proficient level, songwriting, and producing).
@@patrickfoldy8426 it's true. Prince was huge in the 80s but was overshadowed by Michael Jackson..... Mainly due to how much marketing and advertising MJ did while prince was constantly battling record companies for the rights to his music. He'd often have albums released and people wouldn't know at first due to the lack of advertising. It's a shame too because prince was a much better musician and artist than MJ. He had a wider vocal range + could play all those instruments when MJ could barely play anything
Hadn't even heard of it until saw a BBC4 program 2 weeks ago called Vocal Giants and beyond with James Morrison and Beverley Knight. Maybe it is not well known enough to be so highly rated. Pity as very good song.
I watched the movie a few days ago and have been on an Elvis marathon ever since. This has got to be one of the greatest musical performances I’ve ever seen. His voice is truly remarkable
@@krispyk.1786 Me too. I was mesmerized by the way Austin captured the essence, the facial expressions and smiles and dance moves especially Vegas. We saw elvis at the international in 1971 and it was exactly the way the movie has it.
As a zoomer, our generation of music sucks and we know it. Me and most of my friend group look to the past for good music because what's popular now is about as deep as a puddle and sounds annoying.
I know right I'm Glad Elvis was able to get back on Top of the music world 🌎 with this classic Hit Song cause this Hits Hard but What Hits Harder was when he sung the American Trilogy now that song definitely Hits hard when he says his truth is Marching on.
I read that Elvis sang this song in one take. One of the lady backup singers said his emotion was so raw doing this song and that they never saw him this emotional again. He had so much talent. RIP Elvis Presley.
@@jamestyson458 I was born in 06 and even though I didn’t grow up on him, everyone knew and knows who he is because he has a Bigfoot/UFO sorta mystique in pop culture.
Absolutely true. the movie prompted me to actually explore his catalogs and biographies. Incredible figure, probably the most important musician of modern times.
Just been to see the film. At the end of this scene, people in the audience stood and applauded mid-film. It was incredible and Austin Butler absolutely NAILED this. An unbelievable performance.
New found respect for Elvis, he was a champion against racism, a voice for equality, freedom of speech a kind, trusting and loving soul, an enormous talent who was abused by his manager which in my opinion led to his downfall. Go watch the movie, it's fabulous!
@Steve French yeah, why might Elvis in the 70’s like to be a Narcotics agent? Have you ever listened to his music? He really didn’t like the idea of division by race.
@Steve French they showed him fighting the industry people and Parker over gospel albums at least twice. It would be around his comeback special and a bit afterwards. (At this point the Kennedy’s and MLK are all dead btw)
Listen to 68 comeback special which this is a part of! Baby what you want me to do in the jam session. Check that one out then get back to me then. Its fantastichze
Always been an Elvis fan, but after seeing the film...I've not been the same since. This man had his demons, he wasn't without his flaws, but my God, what a talented man he was. He gave everything he had to performing and his music, the love he showed the musicians and singers who joined him on stage, the fact that he continued to give more than should have been humanly possible right before he died is part absolutely heartbreaking and part testament to how music was in his SOUL ❤
He was extremely exhausted seeing the movie made me Haye the Colonel more than I ever had and Tom Hanks nailed it he made me want to choke him I never thought Tom Hanks would make me f****** hate him in a movie he did a God damn great job everyone did their parts and they looked a lot like the original people from Vernon to his mama everybody they all look the same Red West and the little seen he was in they all looked a lot the same but Elvis if if you're a young fans and you don't know much the colonel really really did do him dirty and he picked him out young and he f****** did make everything in that movie is 100% true plus some
This is my favorite song of all time. If you listen to him and watch him you'll know he never put this much effort and soul Into a song. Like this song meant that much to him.
He put every fiber of his being into that performance. That, my friends, how it's supposed to be done. No back ground dancers or fancy light show in back., just him, his band and his voice.
@ victor henderson, very true my friend. He literally sang his heart out here, in memory and to honor a friend. A friend who only wanted peace. Ya Know, the Colonel told Elvis he had better not sing one gospel song but Elvis showed him who was the boss. To me this as gospel as it gets. Like you said, singing alone, one hand , Yes, I'd say Elvis got the message to us all. He was the absolute best and he always will be. Blessings
Exactly. No lip syncing. Pure talent. One of the most incredible performances I have ever seen. In the film at the theater the crowd went crazy when Austin sang this song. Bravo
I saw the movie with my wife 2 days ago. I was deeply moved. He gave every ounce of energy to entertain us. Elvis died when i was 13. My mom cried so bad. I got all welled up at the end of the movie. My wife loved the movie also. She says i have a man crush on Elvis. I guess i do. I will always miss him. But he has never really left.
I was 12 when he died, and I remember my mum and my granny crying over his death, everyone loved Elvis. He always seemed like a gentleman and a kind person, as, well as having an amazing voice.
How could someone's soul not be moved by Elvis' voice. It is something beyond this world. What a blessing his life, his talent, his soul, his legacy are to this dark world.
Yes i agree Heather... Elvis is a deep person too, very giving , a man who was always able to see good in every one,his empathy and solidarity amongst the list of his great characters that most people don't know except his Fans..

@@murchuan8782 a lot of his movements is him actually conducting the band/orchestra. In some interviews some of his band members talk about how he used to tell them all to "watch me".
The very roughness, here and there, in his voice, and the subtle lack of his usual polish, showcases just how viscerally he was feeling it. A very honest performance.
Elvis wasn't just singing for HIS generation --- he was singing also for the FUTURE GENERATIONS ahead of him. He was singing TO US!!!! He was singing to many generations still to come. You can FEEL IT and SEE IT in the way he performed this on stage. All over his heart and face. Elvis knew the fight well growing up in a segregated society that he despised. The fight for PEACE and RESPECT for EVERYONE.
In my opinion, this is the single greatest performance by any musician. Ever. It is simply phenomenal. I wont add anything else to that comment. Simply amazing.
Never thought of it like that before but I 100% agree with you. It has everything. Perfect lyrics, singer, backing vocals, music, setting and sound. Truly awesome.
I heard a story that the backup singers were crying watching him sing with such emotion, totally caught up in the moment like everyone else watching him.
I am Black American born 69 and as a teenager, I was a diehard fan!!! I was told by my Aunt that he was racist, so I loved him in silence…after seeing the movie, I am so grateful, that the truth about his true soul was revealed and I weeped for what happened to him…HE WAS THE KING and I will love him out loud forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Your comment is so interesting. In your heart you knew the truth, despite what people had said, because the truth always has a vibration that we know in our hearts and lies a vibration that bounces off us.
It rips my heart out -- and I think it would rip Elvis' out too -- whenever I run across someone who believes/was taught that Elvis was racist. He had many personal problems but no one needs to make the man worse than he was. Elvis grew up in a mostly black neighborhood, and all his boyhood friends were black children; he grew up loving black gospel and spirituals; he admired and supported black musicians; and one of his closest friends was James Brown. James Brown was the first person to arrive for Elvis' wake and always spoke about him as his brother. James Brown was a proud black man and did not kiss ass for any white man. I don't know why or how such an ugly rumor got started, or why so many black Americans believed it so wholeheartedly, but I've heard the "shoeshine" story and there's no basis for it. None. You can read in Dionne Warwick's book when she talks about meeting Elvis (her aunt Cissy Houston, Whitney's mother, was Elvis' backup singer). At the time Dionne was brand new to the music industry. The first thing Elvis said to her was that HE was a fan of HER music. Then he got on stage and told his audience to go buy Dionne Warwick's new album.

My Dad was a huge Elvis fan. This was his favorite song. My dad passed away in April. He was able to watch the Elvis movie in the comfort of his own home while he was sick. We listened to this song and my Dad remembered how blown away he was when Elvis first released it. It was huge. My dad used to say: “As long as you believe in your dream it can come true!” He told me to never stop dreaming. If you lose hope, you lose everything. My Dad is gone now but I know we will see each other on the other side eventually. ❤️
I'm really happy for your father. Sorry for your loss. Now your father is watching live versions of everything Elvis ever sang. I hope you take comfort in that. God bless you my friend.
Well they must be crazy if they don't like elvis the pelvis as he was know my granddaughter is 18. I'm 75 and we love dancing in the kitchen to the Kings songs and hope to carry on for many more years
@NDY I do as well so sad that his life ended so young and yet people are still cashing in and living on his name What a waste of a life and his talent .
Me too. I’m 43 and want to know everything about him. He was a phenomenal naturally talented soul. I’m glad the movie has put a grand spotlight back on him…i knew almost nothing about Elvis until now. I hope he’s smiling down at how he is still loved and adored.
I remember cooking for Elvis as his #1 Chef he loved my homemade beef stroganoff and fried garlic potatoes in butter cream sauce..... rip Elvis. Till we meet again......
All these years I knew of this performance but I didn’t know the song nor the significance of it. Thank you Baz for opening my eyes to the story of Elvis. As a black person, I was always taught to see Elvis as a thief of my culture and people but the movie (assuming it’s not fabrication) really showed me that Elvis was a beneficiary but not because he had malicious intentions but he was genuinely inspired by and honestly raised on that kind of music, so it’s the basis of his work once he got older. I don’t know if he sung this on purpose as a nod and tribute to Dr. King but if so, that just brings happiness to me. So many have lied on his name and legacy. I look forward to discovering more about this man.
His motivation has been distorted for so long. He was so far from racist. When the soul legend Wilson Pickett had a stroke, Elvis sent his wife a blank check. When a young black lady he knew needed a car, he gave her a brand new one. Race was nothing to him.
It's true he considered Dr Martin Luther King a true inspiration and never understood the whole terrible segregration isssues which were so prevelant back then.
Fun fact: The neckchief elvis is wearing was designed to represent the American troops that died in Vietnam which is why it is wine red. The person who designed this suit for Elvis said when he told Elvis that, Elvis broke down in tears
Elvis was a man who loved deeply & like most people who FEEL he was tormented so deeply with life! I will always relate to and love this man! True Talent! Forever the King of music not just rock n roll but ANY TYPE MUSIC.......💜
This has to be one of my favorite performances from Elvis. I saw him live in June, 1972 in NYC. One of the best day of my life. My daughter and I have been to see the movie 3x. I’m 64. She’s 27. We absolutely love the movie. Austin Butler is phenomenal. Without a doubt - Oscar worthy. Elvis Presley was one of the most incredible people to walk this earth.
The black singer, Roy Hamilton, Elvis' boyhood idol could sing it just as good. Elvis would even be the first to tell you Roy could probably sing it better. Elvis, inspired by Roy singing style, decided to sound like Roy. Well, this song Elvis paid tribute to Martin Luther King after he was assassinated. Elvis was deeply upset. Racist people should not associate themselves with this wonderful man.
@@robinmeznaric9162 Oh yes, and Elvis recorded some of Roy's hits at the time including "You'll Never Walk Alone, Hurt, and Unchained Melody. At one stage, Elvis turned to Roy to help 'reborn' his dying career.
@@jamcock8187 Thanks for sending this link. What a great voice he has. I watched this and then googled Roy. There’s a few songs that will definitely go on my playlist I’m gonna sit right down and cry over you Crazy feelin’ I believe I’ll keep listening to more. His voice , especially when he goes high, reminds me of the platters. One of my favourite singing groups.
The movie made Elvis into a hero in my eyes. I never fully took the time to understand him as a person, and I only knew him as an icon. This song really is not only the strongest of all of his songs in regards to passion and love for humanity, but it also was a major turning point in his career. He was such a strong person who found something else in himself and completely out did himself with this song. I also applaud Walter Earl Brown and Billy Goldenberg for writing such a tune. I just never knew Elvis as a civil rights advocate; never took the time. RIP EP
I have became such an Elvis admirer after going to Memphis last month and watching the movie Elvis. I didn't know anything about him. He was an amazing person and the greatest singer eve RIP. Hope to see him in heaven.
One of the most underrated and underestimated performances in the history of entertainment. 1968, Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy murdered, the Vietnam War, serious civil disturbances right across the US, and rather than sing the Xmas number Parker wanted him to, Elvis chose to make this musical statement to the nation.
The most heartbreaking moment of the recent film was the scene in which Elvis said something about not being remembered or doing anything lasting...if only he had known that all these years later we were still listening
I had an old professor in college who met Elvis twice. He told me that Elvis said to him that he wished more people appreciated his voice more than his looks.
when i was younger and hadnt heard much elvis before, i thought it was the case that he was basically just handsome and a good performer, but couldnt really sing or at least needed 'help' with his voice. But after actually spending about 5 minutes listening to Elvis, i realised that was completely wrong and his voice was insane!
@Colt3945 Mercury is a shouter. Nobody even mentioned him before that film came out. The Hollywood crowd only promoted him because he was a gay immigrant.
Not many will ever realize the importance of this song. Not many will realize the significance of the importance of this song in music culture. Those that do, I salute you. Let the movement thrive. ✊🤘
WE ARE ALL PART OF A RACE CALLED THE 'HUMAN RACE' PERIOD !!! The Obama puppetmasters want us divided== 'WE' need to remain 'UNITED' == regardless of skin colours ect == "WE'RE ALL GOD'S CHILDREN 👍😎
@@joporter5725 He was also addressing the civil unrest that existed in the late sixties. The civil rights movement was in full force and in this song Elvis nailed it with words and music. Beautiful performance.
This is a long post but this song is so powerful even today...and the way things should be with mankind, it gets my eyes leaking every single time. (Another set of contacts out the window!) ....and to imagine the life long Elvis fans such as myself having to witness not long ago many of the younger generation of all colors calling him out as a racist and vandalizing the gates/fences of Graceland during the BLM movement/protests when statues were being torn down, etc. I was for one so saddened that so many people of color are still trying to heal from the generational damage done by our gov & many a-hole individuals that shared those racist ideals back in the 60's, before and beyond too, and also saddened that someone like Elvis being so opposite of the accusations of being labeled a racist was being targeted as a racist historical figure unjustly, especially when I had grew up on his music, had yearly trips to Memphis and met his cook at Graceland as a teen- and she was black. Just the sweetest kindest woman ever to my family and she, like Elvis didn't see people as colors that needed to be done away with, or treated differently. She said she loved Elvis & said that he had been very good to her. Heck she was still there at Graceland 11 years after he died, and until she died. That right there says everything, because had Elvis really been a racist- guaranteed that woman could have whipped him up a sh*t pie, or offed him long ago during a meal and made it look like simple food poisoning, lol Heck almost all of his back up singers his entire career were of color, he paid the medical bills for Jackie Wilson who was of color for those that don't know & the list of him doing things like this is loooong- but I'm really so glad that Elvis' fans span decades & are people of every God given color & creed and defended him back then....and now with this new movie out- the TRUTH has been revealed more publicly in depth, and the young mocking birds that don't bother to research (all) history before trying jump on any kind of issues that they don't fully understand-before running with the misinfo. to crucify/erase someone from history, now know EXACTLY what kind of a person Elvis truly was. He saw people for people- how we were meant to be, loved, beautifully created different and unique. Elvis treated every one the same and with a very generous & genuine heart. He was before his time and hopefully people thinking he was a racist before now realize that he was on their side of treating all people as equals, like so many others of us are. This song and the message is timeless and hopefully one day it will be heard by enough ears that agree that there is no other way to live, other than to be loving to each other and treat each other as equals. #ElvisMovement :)
Sure, Elvis was "pretty".. Sure, Elvis could "act".. But listen to this performance.. LISTEN TO IT. THIS made him a legend to me. This message.. The first time I heard this track I was stunned, after it finished I immediately replayed it, and I wept. Elvis had put into words the way I was feeling somehow 40 years before these feelings ever surfaced in me. The song was written by Walter Earl Brown with direct quotations of Dr. King Jr who had just been assassinated two months previously. When presented with the demo, Elvis' manager Parker was quoted as saying "This ain't Elvis' kind of song" but Elvis pleaded with him to let him give it a shot. When Presley first heard the demo he was quoted as saying "I'm never going to sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in." When the song was initially recorded the backing vocalists were said to be left in tears saying they had never felt such raw emotion conveyed and they truly believed he meant every word. We're still dreaming, King.
Beautifully put. Only The KING could convey so much passion & emotion into his songs. This performance leaves you speechless. Sadly missed , FOREVER in our hearts TCB ☇
Comrade: I’ve been an Elvis fan for 60 years. Doesn’t make me an expert on Elvis career, but close. I have watched endless hours of interviews with the Memphis Mafia as well as Lisa Marie and Priscilla. Elvis never begged the Parker to do the song. There was a clear line between their roles. Parker’s job was to promote and sell Elvis. The show, song choice etc was all Elvis. Elvis only performed If I can dream on the 68 comeback special. He never performed the song again, ever. The only release of the song was on the album or CD of the show.
Recorded two months after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and the resemblance to King’s "I Have a Dream" speech just makes this Elvis’ best song. The backing singers had tears rolling down their checks recording it, which just shows the effect one person can have when a country is hurting.
The Torch of Freedom still burns bright . Mahalia Jackson lit the match that made MLK talk about the Dream of Equality . " Go on Martin tell them about the Dream " .
He wasn't singing with his voice... He was singing with his soul!!!
And that’s why we feel this song in our soul
Real singing :) real music :)
And singing with his whole body.

Elvis, at heart, was a gospel singer. The only Grammy he ever won was for Gospel. That album.was amazing

Vocal perfection. There is a reason why Elvis impersonators avoid this song.
It's a deceptively difficult song to sing, and any impersonator's voice pales before the power that Elvis puts into this song. Best to leave it alone.
I’m with you on this….ok come on this is a masterpiece 🙋♀️👍❤️🙏
You’re right. Elvis was one of the greats. It’s a shame he didn’t spend more time after he got out of the army producing new music. It kept him from having the staying power that the Beatles have had.
@@benmoore42 Yes. Elvis devoted himself to film acting for quite some time in the 60s. “Although there were good songs and hit songs during the Elvis movie era.”
But Elvis evolved in the 60's and 70's and accomplished many great things.
Deep Purple's lead singer and frontman, Ian Gillan, a damn good singer in his own right, said: " he was the greatest singer that ever lived."
Henry Pleasants, Classical Music Critic in his book “The Great American Popular Singers” (1974). Elvis had a magnificent voice and towards the end of his life, he enjoyed singing in a somewhat operatic style, displaying his amazing range. Opera star Kiri Te Kanawa told Michael Parkinson that the young Elvis had the greatest voice she had ever heard. The tenor Placido Domingo similarly enthused in an interview in Spanish magazine Hola in 1994: “His was the one voice I wish to have had.” Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel told The New York Times in 2007 that Presley was: “very classically orientated with his voice and diction and very sincere and wanting to get everything perfect.”
The australian Elvis Network there is an article called "the 50 voices of Elvis" and a lot of voice specialists (great) oppinion of Elvis.
Elvis Presley was very open in his singing style even though he was 'the' rock and roller." - Brian Gilbertson, world-famous voice teacher
Record producer John Owen Williams says of Elvis: "People talk of his range and power, his ability and ease in hitting the high notes. But the real difference between Elvis and other singers was that he could sing majestically in any style, be it rock, country, or R&B - because he had soul. He sang from the heart. And that is what made him the greatest singer in the history of popular music.”
Only singer in music Hall of Fame Rock, Country, Blues, Gospel.
(Mike Handley,'The Jim Bohannon Show', Westwood One Network)
On his live versions of songs like 'How Great Thou Art' (1975), 'Unchained Melody' (1976) and 'Hurt' (1977), you will be able to hear how high he can go; 'What Now My Love' really his true vocal power.
You can hear it here on inspired versions of Muddy Waters' Got My Mojo Working, Wayne Carson's Always on My Mind, Chuck Berry's Promised Land, McCartney's Lady Madonna, Percy Mayfield's Stranger in My Own Hometown, Dennis Linde's Burning Love and Joe South's Walk a Mile in My Shoes..."
"Presley's voice was remarkable in the sense that, through it, he touched people in a way only great artists can do.
He didn’t write a song but his sheer raw performing talent, his phrasing of a song and ability to make a song absolutely his were all so extraordinary that someone like Chuck Berry - who was a legend and who wrote all of his own songs - still said that Elvis was ‘the best and the best there ever will be
He became one of the most significant pop culture icons of the 20th century before passing away at the young age of 42.
He was the original cool.” (Brian Setzer)
“Heartbreak Hotel” had a colossal impact - both on Elvis’ career and on rock & roll history.
Brian Setzer, “Everything in popular music is a tribute to Elvis”

My all time most favorite song from 'THE KING ELVIS PRESLEY '❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢 LOVE FOR ELVIS And LISA MARIE PRESLEY FOREVER. R.I.P ❤❤ (was not even born yet when the 68 special came on t.v)
I think this must be his best recorded performance. He didn't care about hitting the notes, just pure emotions. Incredible.

Boomers were right, Elvis was the best ever and there will never be another like him.

Him and Prince are my top two performers of all time. Elvis help bring Rock n' Roll to the mainstream and Prince was probably the most talented performer to ever live (between his vocal range, dancing, all the instruments he could play at a proficient level, songwriting, and producing).
@@him8012 yeah I heard from my mom that prince could literally play any instrument you put in front of him, and of course his voice

New found respect for Elvis, he was a champion against racism, a voice for equality, freedom of speech a kind, trusting and loving soul, an enormous talent who was abused by his manager which in my opinion led to his downfall. Go watch the movie, it's fabulous!
@Steve French ever think you are hijacking his legacy? Why does being a proud southerner have to go hand in hand with being white?
@Steve French yeah, why might Elvis in the 70’s like to be a Narcotics agent? Have you ever listened to his music? He really didn’t like the idea of division by race.
@Steve French I didn’t see that at all in the movie. If you somehow have connected “don’t be racist” to “proto-Marxism”…. Idk what to tell you…
@Steve French what do you mean they didn’t touch on his religious beliefs? I’m starting to think we didn’t watch the same movie.

Amen! He had so much soul!

Yes it should be back but just like this. No cover. No one can do it like this.
Absolutely!
He's called the king for a reason.
Agreed.
Exactly!
all u have to do is watch and listen
What reason?
Exactly
He wasn't called THE KING for No Reason; Elvis is motion and feels more than a singer
He was definitely inspired to his core by the black culture and music he grew up around- 1000%
Another song to listen to is in the ghetto. He wasn’t afraid to sing it, he knew the truth behind the song.
@@tashaparker9427 “In The Ghetto” was actually over the closing credits of the film.
Fun fact: The neckchief elvis is wearing was designed to represent the American troops that died in Vietnam which is why it is wine red. The person who designed this suit for Elvis said when he told Elvis that, Elvis broke down in tears
Wow, never knew that. Elvis seemed so neutral on anything political, he kept his politics so well-hidden other than being photographed with Nixon
holy shit i've seen you trolling in this comments section but you actually taught me something, thank you
Wow. Thank you for sharing this.
Elvis was a man who loved deeply & like most people who FEEL he was tormented so deeply with life! I will always relate to and love this man!
True Talent! Forever the King of music not just rock n roll but ANY TYPE MUSIC.......💜
@@MichaelJ44 thanks!
Took me 27 years to listen to Elvis Presley... but I'm happy I did. 🕺🏽
Yes sir.
Bro same but I'm 37
Man_Down, I am happy you did, too.
Im 38 now and first time im lissing i was 3-4 years
The movie got me to appreciate what he did for music and civil rights.
The '68 Comeback Special was his finest performance, IMO.
One of the most powerful songs ever written and sung by the king you can see he means every word
Hey mate.. I could not have said it better myself..well done you 👍🏽👍🏽
Beste,,,
Beautifully sung, no doubt! Sadly, Elvis never wrote any songs.
Written by Walter Earl Brown but I’m sure glad to have heard Elvis sing it this morning and to know I can redeem my soul and fly!
Sorry but Erol brown wrote this song..x
This has to be one of my favorite performances from Elvis. I saw him live in June, 1972 in NYC. One of the best day of my life. My daughter and I have been to see the movie 3x. I’m 64. She’s 27. We absolutely love the movie. Austin Butler is phenomenal. Without a doubt - Oscar worthy. Elvis Presley was one of the most incredible people to walk this earth.
Hello Bernadette, how are you doing today
Mahalo for sharing this!😁🤙🏼
Aloha!
Yes! Absolutely legend of legend ! Elvis forever !!!
Legendary
My sisters have seen the movie 4 times each in theaters
No other singer could sing this song like this. It’s perfection. I get emotional every time I listen to it. Beautiful.
@@jamcock8187 I’ve never heard of Roy Hamilton. I’ll check him out . Thanks
@@robinmeznaric9162 Oh yes, and Elvis recorded some of Roy's hits at the time including "You'll Never Walk Alone, Hurt, and Unchained Melody. At one stage, Elvis turned to Roy to help 'reborn' his dying career.

Thanks for sending this link. What a great voice he has. I watched this and then googled Roy. There’s a few songs that will definitely go on my playlist
I’m gonna sit right down and cry over you
Crazy feelin’
I believe
I’ll keep listening to more.
His voice , especially when he goes high, reminds me of the platters. One of my favourite singing groups.
I agree with other commenters here. This is the best Elvis Presley song.
💯% agreed
Outside the internet, obviously 50s Presley is the best and has his most headbangers
RIP EP
Amen!!
I wouldn't say he was a civil rights advocate it was more of a realization that it mattered
The movie was ok but nothing on the real man. He was a hero a long long time before they decided to do the movie.
I have became such an Elvis admirer after going to Memphis last month and watching the movie Elvis. I didn't know anything about him. He was an amazing person and the greatest singer eve RIP. Hope to see him in heaven.
@@tomben6180 the movie was amazing
One of the most underrated and underestimated performances in the history of entertainment. 1968, Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy murdered, the Vietnam War, serious civil disturbances right across the US, and rather than sing the Xmas number Parker wanted him to, Elvis chose to make this musical statement to the nation.
Don't forget the JFK assassination
If I can dream of a better land, where all my brothers walk hand in hand, tell me why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true?
WOW Elvis was the best performer the world had ever known! There can only be ONE!! We miss you sooo Much!
@@ambervandeusen1418 That was 5 years prior

The most heartbreaking moment of the recent film was the scene in which Elvis said something about not being remembered or doing anything lasting...if only he had known that all these years later we were still listening
It has always been one of his biggest concerns
I thought the same exact thing
Hi Emily, how are you doing
⭐️2024⭐️🍾🥂...Can't believe this song is over 50 years old. Elvis Presley ❤
I had an old professor in college who met Elvis twice. He told me that Elvis said to him that he wished more people appreciated his voice more than his looks.

Bro met Elvis the superhuman
@@johny1665 right, Elvis is a whole marvel character
You should cover this in the style of weezer.
when i was younger and hadnt heard much elvis before, i thought it was the case that he was basically just handsome and a good performer, but couldnt really sing or at least needed 'help' with his voice. But after actually spending about 5 minutes listening to Elvis, i realised that was completely wrong and his voice was insane!
The single greatest performance in rock history. And it’s not debatable.
I think so
So true
Haaaa!!! That’s debatable.
@Colt3945 Freddie mercury couldn't sing the genres of songs ELVIS COULD .

He was upset by the killing MLK and RFk
@@joporter5725 He was also addressing the civil unrest that existed in the late sixties. The civil rights movement was in full force and in this song Elvis nailed it with words and music. Beautiful performance.
God bless 🙏 Thank you Lord for giving us Elvis, even for a short time..
68 comeback was clearly peak Elvis. Everyone that was there to witness this special was very lucky. Wish I had been alive and in that audience.
Nice, I didn't know that story.
Still, It's my first time hearing it. Pretty awesome.
Beautifully put. Only The KING could convey so much passion & emotion into his songs. This performance leaves you speechless. Sadly missed , FOREVER in our hearts TCB ☇
Spot on.....
Hear hear!
Mahalia Jackson lit the match that made MLK talk about the
Dream of Equality . " Go on Martin tell them about the Dream " .
Elvis said this was for MLK..his murder affected Elvis very much..as it did everyone back then.🤎🤎♾🕯🕯
MLK was a Marxist, false teacher.
